Is this safe to use on guns?
from what i hear that shit will eat through bluing and parkerized finishes. If you are willing to refinish your gun after that then yeah its good.
Well I just bought this 96/11 that I'm planning on restoring but I haven't decided if I'm going to try to keep the finish the way it is or cold blue everything
I'd like /k/'s thoughts
If you're gonna reblue it any then evapo rust is fine.
If you want to keep the finish then you might want to use something else.

Cold bluing of anything other than small scratches looks like shit. It also wears off quite fast.

If you had the patience and knew a guy who could hot blue your parts then that's the best possible scenario.
Strip the rust and bluing off, clean them up, take them to a gun smith who does hot bluing.

You'll only need a literal table spoon. If you rub down the rusted areas and let it soak, then go at it with the steel wool it'll come off. Your pics didn't show heavy rust

I know, I specified that. But the main reason I was asking about the evaporust was because if it works with this rifle I want to try it on a gunsmith special with a nasty looking bore. I've tried everything on it to no avail. This is kinda the hailmarry. But I don't want to make it worse if this stuff is actually harmful.
