I am fat (5'6" 180) and appendix carry fine. I don't have much in the way of a "gut" as some people do, just sort of fat all over between knees and ribcage, but I have found the best way with most guns for appendix carry is to make your holster ride fairly high, that way it is mostly parallel to your gut/or abs if you are in good shape, instead of right in the middle of waist band where it then sits at an uncomfortable angle trying to sit against thighs or stomach but doing neither and poking both

I appendix every so often. it helps to practice and try different positions. when I first started, I carried at 11 o clock (right hand draw mind you) and that was pretty nuts, gradually I shifted more towards the right and I now carry around 2 o clock.
when sitting, it helps to ride a little high, instead of resting on your leg, pointing toward your knee, I find it more comfy to have your belt at your navel and your piece pointing at your thigh. sure it's scary, but I carry with a manual safety, so I'm not too worried.
that said, it's none too concealable in tighter shirts, so I try to carry at 6 o clock and take advantage of the gap at the small of my back to hide my gun.

That's a good idea. Sometimes stiff belts don't work well for appendix carry, because belts tend to ride higher around your back and hips and lower in front, so the angle and belt stiffness push the muzzle into your groin and cant the grip out slightly. I've heard really good things about the atlas g-hook belt and the wilderness frequent flyer specifically when carrying AIWB.

Carrying requires the person to dress around their carry piece. This is something that has been discussed at length in multiple magazines, and by big names in the shooting world. No matter what gimmick gun manufacturers make or holster manufacturers claim, you have to dress accordingly.
This is why they make pocket guns with pocket holsters. Some people cannot wear long pants due to the weather or don't want to wear a plaid unbuttoned shirt/button-up when they carry in the summer, so they go to a backup piece during the extreme heat.
TL;DR - your gun will bulge no matter what when you are moving out and about naturally, so either dress around it or carry a pocket gun like an LCP.
