Could we have a facts thread about stuff people might not know, particularly new shooters. I think this could really help people particularly newer gun owners. I'll start with a smaller one.

1. Lighter grain bullets tend to give not only less recoil but more muzzle flash as well.

3. Do not cross your thumbs behind the slide of a semi-automatic pistol or put your hand in front of the cylinder of a revolver.

I'm sorry, but that rifle is the ugliest piece of shit I have ever seen in my entire fucking life.

Seriously, who thought" let's make the dragunov, excpet not " and then shit this thing out
Not even a airsofter would want that thing.

Just fucking EW.

Why does it accept a bipod directly infront of the magazine like that?

Why did someone put a airshit scope on it?

I'm feeling incredibly sick the more I think about it, just god WHY does this thing exist?
>>

They do not like heavy or hot loaded ammo and the receiver will crack.

Ah, thanks for an actual answer
>>
>>30192775
Nobody had taught me that when I started shooting, not even my Dad I went shooting with. Didn't take long before my thumb was scratched up, I guess I was lucky that's all that happened.

>just god WHY does this thing exist?
Anon, it's not like "just make a big AK in 7.62x54r and ""accuratize"" it then put it in SVDesque furniture" was a thought process unique to romania. China was the only country I know of to fully reverse engineer the SVD(surprise surprise). Iran clones it, but the Russians licensed it to them. Iraq tried and made certainly something in the form of the . Al Kadesiah (pic related), a sort of PSL-SVD hybrid made with all its SVDish bits deliberately noninterchangeable with actual dragunov parts because saddam hussein reasons.
Yugoslavia and Romania merely settled with big AKs

More of a useless fact.
The hole in the bolt on the SVT40 is the perfect size to fit a conveniently rimmed cartridge into so it's easier to work the bolt with thick winter gloves.

They did that on porpoise!

Here's another. You need to be really careful resinstalling the slide stop on most 1911 and block it's ability to go up with your thumb or you could get an idiot scratch when instead of going on the hole, it flies across the slide or frame scratching them in a humiliating manner.

7.62nato/308win &556nato/223rem are not necessarily interchangeable due to pressure limits
>>
>>30195325
I did not know 7.62 nato wasn't .308win.

Which can you use in which?
>>
>>30195533
It is the opposite of 5.56/.223

Whereas 5.56 is a higher pressure than .223
.308 is a higher pressure than x51NATO
>>
On the Savage Lee Enfield No4mk1*, you can put the safety on, pull the trigger, disengage the safety, and now you have a target trigger. Also works on my AK
>>
>>30195325
You'll be safe 99.999999% of the time so it's essentially a non issue

Legendary Firearms manufacturers in the South American state of Brazil have created a fully automatic handgun than does not need a trigger: it always knows exactly when you want to fire it.
>>

>target trigger

Forgive my ignorance, what do you mean by "target trigger?"
>>
>>30196436
very light trigger pull
>>
>>30196436

A trigger with such a light trigger pull, a light breeze might set it off.
>>
>>30195325
5.56 and .223 are different enough to cause issues

7.62 and .308 are completely interchangeable, except maybe in small ring Spanish Mausers, which are really chambered for 7.62 CETME
>>
>>30195629
seconded
>>
>>30196580
The neck length in 7.62 and 308 are slightly different. I don't remember which way it goes but some rifles chambered in one will eject blown out brass of the other caliber.
>>
>>30197710
No.
Headspace measurements are different.
>>
>>30197716
Found the explanation image I was thinking of. That makes sense. I had it mixed up in my head.
>>
>>30197731
That picture is bullshit though. The cartridges are the exact same length. It's the headspacing of the chamber that is different.
>>
>>30197745
First off, the cartridges ARE different lengths.
"Head spacing" is in the chamber, It is what accommodates the cartdige. If they were the same length, why the hell would one gun be headspaced differently than another? Wikipedia confirms.
>>
>>30197745
Why would the do that?
>>
>>30197731
Would that small of a difference really cause a problem? I mean you can shoot 223 out of a 556 gun, how is this different?
>>
You can't shoot 22lr out of 22mag gun. Case is narrower.
>>
>>30198290
Because it is a different caliber and a different situation altogether?

Obviously it does make a difference if people have problems lol. Manufacturers mostly agree it is safe to do, it just causes problems.

What happened to there not being any differences?
