What does /k/ think of the Glock 34 Gen 4? I just got one in a trade, was planning on using it for CC. Should I now try to swap for a 17?
>>
>>30191635
It is bang on for size with a government length 1911, but thicker. If you are comfortable concealing it go right ahead.

Picking up a 17 will cut some length out of the nose, but I personally at least run into issues with grip length printing far before slide length is a concern.
>>
>>30191666
Yeah, I noticed that it's almost exactly the same length. I'm just more put off by the looks-always thought Glocks looked a bit odd with a longer slide.
>>
>>30191703
I have a G34 too, and I kind of like the look. Plus the longer sight radius is great, probably my favorite Glock to shoot. And the big beavertail backstrap helps for my big hands.

As for CC, if you can CC a 17, you can CC a 34.
>>
>>30191635
if you were planning on carrying a 17 you can get away with a 34 with the same amount of effort

is a fullsize a good choice for ccw not really but if you dress around it it will work
>>
>>30191635

it's a very good USPSA Production/IDPA SSP pistol.
>>
I was looking at a Surefire X300 Ultra to slap on my G34 for carry. Does anyone offer shoulder holsters for that sort of setup? Or are there custom holster makers /k/ wil recommend?
>>
>>30193187
Idpa pulled the 34 and 34 out of ssp this year.

I thinks it's in esp now
>>
I don't understand why people on /k/ carry full size and long barrel handguns. How do you people do it? Do you just not give a fuck about printing or are you all fat fucks or do you solely wear CC shirts? And those guns are heavy too, especially the metal frames. How is that bearable? Maybe it's because I'm kinda skinny, but I don't understand why you don't just get a G26 or a P938 or even a Bodyguard.

You people are silly.
>>
>>30194257
I don't care about printing and I'm on the skinny side. A good holster and belt make a big difference with managing the weight.

But I shoot my G34 like Travis Haley wearing yoga pants, so I'm pretty motivated.

The kind of gun that would serve no other purpose than to make me feel like a god at the range. Pic related yes pls.

because they are autists who have never actually concealed a gun for a reasonable period of time.

>if you can cc a g17, that means you can cc a g34!

This statement is so fucking dumb, I don't even know where to begin. no, no it doesn't. If these people had actually carried before, they'd know that every bit of weight, width, and length matters hugely.

>blah blah blagh yes I can

fine, conceal your retard sized handgun for a year, and see how that goes for you. As time goes on, you will carry it less and less, because it is such a (literal) pain in the ass. You'll start making excuses... "oh, I don't need it when I'm at x's house" and "I don't really need it when I'm going to the store, minorities don't go there anyways"

bottom line... with a gun that large, you are either going to be uncomfortable, or printing. If you are uncomfortable, you aren't gonna have you gun on you at all times. Most of the time, the people spewing this nonsense are bad shots with smaller guns, so they do mental gymnastics to justify their bs.

Apparently carring a figuratively bigger gun will supplement your shooting skills and it's some sort of impromptu bragging right to say you carry it on /k/.

Most of these people who carry fullsize guns are also fedora enthusiasts and will go on and mention their custom made shoulder holster like the fedora tipping homos they are.

With the right holster, you really can almost CC anything. The 34 is like a slightly fatter, lighter 1911, with 17+1. Are you saying 1911s aren't suited for CC? Because a TON of people CC them every day. If OP likes his G34, he can CC it.

SSVI Tyr. I won it. I normally would never bother spending money on a non OEM trigger, but I am very pleased with this one all things considered. I trust it with my life and it really is just great overall.
>>
>>30194869

Is it the thickness, the barrel length, or the grip length that is the biggest obstacle to CC'ing? Are any of them not a significant issue?
>>
I like mine a lot, got the gen 4 version though I don't really use the backstraps much. I've had some issues with steel case out of magpul mags on a dirty feed ramp when clambering the first round by hand, but perhaps I'm a retard.

I've also got a g26 for cc and I'm going to get a g40 for everything (and shoot 40sw most the time).
>>
>>30194998
They are all factors in how comfortable you are when carrying. people rarely consider this, all they seem to care about is the size of their group at the range.

You want to have your gun with you at all times. If you are uncomfortable, you won't.

Also, you will print significantly more. I have a shield and I still print occasionally.
>>
>>30194998
griplength is the biggest threat to printing
the handle is what will stick out
17 and 34 have the same frame if he was willing to carry a 17 he can do a 34
the guns thickness effects comfort but a 26 is just as thick as a 17 its not an issue
weight of the 17 and 34 are the same thats why its got that cut out
barrel length is really the easiest part to hide unless you are using ar horizontal shoulder holster. depending on the location of the gun a longer barrel may poke you and make certain positions uncomfortable when you sit or bend but its not a huge deal

guns with longer barrels take a more time to draw and clear a holster compared to shorter barrels but its not that huge of a gap

>What does /k/ think of the Glock 34 Gen 4? I just got one in a trade, was planning on using it for CC.

My nigger.

If you can conceal a 17 you can conceal a G34. The extra slide length doesn't affect concealment if you're carrying IWB. I personally moved from a G19 to a G34 and the felt difference was minimal. All that changed was I added about a 1/2 inch to the grip.
>>
>>30194998
Grip length is by far the biggest. The next closest is width. Barrel length doesn't matter much until you get to absurd lengths that cause the barrel to press against the other side of your pants if you're carrying IWB. If you carry OWB it does matter a good deal as you need something short enough to hide the muzzle under a shirt/jacket.
>>
>>30191635
The 34 Gen 4 is the only Glock I'd want to own. I think you should keep it.

I handled one at the gun shop and was very impressed. The grip actually feels like a grip and not like a 2x4. The trigger is really nice, actually. The sights are excellent, and I felt like it would be a tack driver and very easy to shoot with that nice long slide.

The last time I looked at Glocks was over ten years ago. I thought the grips were horrible and too fat, and the trigger felt like I was squashing a cockroach. They've improved a lot since then.
>>
>>30191635
I don't know about you, but if I can conceal my penis I could conceal that little thing.
>>
Most self defense shooting happens at night. If you have a compensated gun you will be blind after the first shot. Never cc a compensated gun. Ever.
>>
>>30195579
OP here, I probably am going to keep it and CC it in a shoulder holster, since I wear one already. I was thinking about night sights, though. Do they make any that look the same as the stock sights? I'd prefer that over a 3-dot. Otherwise, I don't think I'll upgrade much. Looks aside, it's a good fit in my hands.
>>
>>30195797
The G34 isn't compensated, they cut out a portion of the slide to save weight.
>>
>>30195814
This. There are some additional cuts on the inside of the slide as well. The G34 is only about an ounce heavier than a G17.

At 155 for your height, you should have the leeway to conceal larger handguns than someone much heavier set than you.

Now if you do have that weight from muscle and dress to accentuate your figure, then you will run into problems.

Is there any reason that the 34 would be less concealable than a 17? And in terms of function, does the 34 do anything better or worse?

I ask because, while the 17 does just look "right" to me, I got to try a 34 w/backstrap, and the balance and sight picture was just so nice.

Longer slides tend to suck for sitting with AIWB, but if you are on your feet most of the day or sit but carry at 3-5 o'clock there isn't a huge difference.

While I don't have a G34, I do alternate between a 5" 1911 (similar size) and a Glock 30 depending on what I'm wearing. Tighter fitting clothes where the full size grip will print badly just means I carry the G30 that day.

I prefer the 34 over the 17. Not quite sure why as they both seem to shoot equally well.
I would recommend a 19 for carry dude, you only lose 2 rounds and get a significantly smaller package.

You see, not everyone is a delicate skeleton/obese fairy. I realize like 99% of /k/ is pathetic, but come on.

I carry either a full size 9mm to squeeze in as much capacity in a handgun as practical, or a revolver loaded with .454 Casull or greater for power since I don't have a rifle on me.

I don't get sloppy, I conceal carry literally every second I'm out of the house unless it's full on fuck you in the ass prison illegal to do so.

I also conceal pretty well, and I don't care about the weight, because I'm not a little fucking pussy, lift hard every week, dress like a man, and have had to hump actual weight in my life across actual distances.

I cannot comprehend how fucking sad someone's physique and mental fortitude must be that not only do they not have the muscle mass to help a little bit of extra bulk blend in, they can't deal with literally a few fucking pounds on their body.

I know there are steel Glock sights, and I know you can get a tritium front, but I'm not sure if someone has made the rear sight "basket" in tritium.

I suggest these. Ameriglo CAP's. They're similar in many ways to the OEM sights, but without sucking dick. The chartreuse really pops, but the rear lacks tritium. I personally don't care as I am used to a 10-8 rear with a tritium front. The CAP's are also priced right.

That image made my uncomfortable. It's like those photos of a bunch of tiny holes or something, it just creeps me out.

I have before and I'd rather not do it again.

I think what started it was when I was 13/14 I saw a picture of a boob online that was shooped to have a bunch of worms poking out of holes in the nipple and it was the most disgusting thing I'd ever seen.

Fucking stippling. I just got my carry & purchase permit yesterday so I'm going to go rent some handguns soon and see what I want to buy and seeing this almost makes me want to say fuck polymer guns totally in case I ever somehow drop it in a box of hot pins or something retarded and impossible like that, since I'd had to get rid of it afterwards.

Short of the wonderful 25LPI checkering on the front and rear of my 1911, I feel all handguns offer too little grip in the areas that matter for me (front and backstraps). Hence why everything I own other than that 1911 has grip tape on at least the front strap.

On some guns like the 226 it looks a lot less out of place.

Eh, I kinda would prefer 3-dot over that. I'm not fond of black sights. They don't suit me.

What about sights like these? Sure, the exposed fibre optic looks cool, but how well do these sort of sights actually work?

>>
>>30203397

fiber optic front/blacked out rear is the sight of choice for competition shooters.

sure they won't work at pitch black, but if that's so you shouldn't be shooting. have a light.

I have a gen4 34 and I love the thing. I wouldn't really recommend concealing a 34 or 17 for that matter but I have a iwb holster for it and I can pull it off, although it's pretty uncomfortable.

I would strongly recommend hanging onto the 34 as opposed to trading it for a 17.
>>
>>30203397
I had a set of TFOs that I sold. Great at night as the lamps were much brighter than any other set of tritium sights I've owned, but I personally found the rear fiberoptic distracting in daylight. If you prefer 3 dot they may be your speed though.

When I shoot, all I am looking for is the front sight, the rear is just a blur.

I don't think my response is buttmad.

He asked, I answered.

I'm on fucking /k/, here to bullshit about guns, what is the big deal? I wasn't in the mood to do TPS reports at work.

Also, he was being a cunt, and you know it. I use the same gun for CCW, IDPA, and any classes i might take. I think using the same gun for all handgun related shit might have some perks.

What about these mini red dots I keep seeing on Glocks? How do they mount to the slide? I assume it's have to be milled out?
>>
>>30204538
>I assume it's have to be milled out
yes. the slide is milled and its attached directly to it
>>
>>30204538
yup. ATEi is well-liked. or get a replacement slide (ZEV Dragonfly) or a MOS Glock.

A less concealable but ultimately more durable setup (for the optic especially) is the ALG 6 second mount.

Definitely something in the competition/range/duty gun category though.

holsters for mount optics (as opposed to slide rides) are difficult unless you have a race holster like this:

>>
>>30204570
I wish they sold MOS slides. I'll look into a spare slide down the road.
>>30204601
That's pretty goofy. I love it! I'm not sure if I'd want a mini red dot on my CCW, but the option would be nice, which is probably why I'll just buy a second slide, rather than a race type mount.

What holster is this? IWB?

I have a Glock 20 with a Viridan X5L on it and the only option Ive found is an expensive as fuck Dara Holster.
