It will cut into your barrel life in the long run, so a CL barrel is optimal if you're shooting bi-metal jacket ammo. Honestly, CL is preferred in general for your AR barrel unless your a group autist.
Avoid the utter dogshit that is Tulammo and you'll be more or less fine. If you have to shoot steelcase, I'd suggest Brown Bear or Monarch. Wolf Gold is the GOAT budget round, though.

It's an Anderson arms lower, which is $50 in the link + whatever the cost of an FFL transfer in your area, I think I bought the upper receiver pre-assembled from Palmetto State armory on sale for like 400(?). That right there is a functional rifle for 600 that already beats out M&P Sport IIs. Anything else you add to it/change from it is personal preference i.e. the stock, foregrip, etc

Can anybody recommend me a laser/light combo for the front of my rifle? I want a visible red laser since I don't have any irons on my rifle and it'd make close range target acquisition near instant. Here's a California gun law hypothetical for you.
Let's say I live in Southern California in my own house. In my gun safe, I have a 16" AR-15 complete with all evil features. Muzzle device, collapsible stock, pistol grip, etc. No bullet button. I also have four 30 round PMAGs. I bought the gun in a private sale, as well as 1000 rounds of ammo, in Arizona.
If some how this came to the attention of law enforcement, how fucked would I be? Would just installing a bullet button be enough to make me not fucked?

The CA DOJ would fuck you in the ass without lube. Even possessing a 30 round magazine in CA is a violation of their laws, let alone an AR platform rifle unless it meets an extremely specific criteria which is getting narrower each passing year. Everything you listed in your post (basically a normal AR) is banned in CA and the DOJ would prosecute you. The ammo however is fine.
Simply installing a bullet button would NOT get you out of trouble. If you want a semi-automatic rifle in CA you're better off going with some kind of 7.62 rifle with a ten round mag, something like a battle rifle such as an M14.

I just finished an M16A4 clone and threw a suppressor on for about 60rds. Didn't have any failures, but ejection was around 1-2-oclock and just didn't seem to have much authority. Wondered if I should be looking for a new buffer.

Ejection angles that usually denote overgassing combined with a weak or inconsistent pattern might have more to do with your extractor and ejector than buffer weight.
That being said, the suppressor should cause an overgassed condition and you can either play mix and match with tungsten weights out of an H3 carbine buffer or just buy one of Slash's buffers.

Just bought a 10" ALG EMR V1. As such, about 1/2" of my gas block will be exposed. With an X300 U mounted at 12 o'clock over barrel with front sight behind X300, will heat be a concern with my light right there?
