I'd suggest to get something that is not a weapon but can be used as one, this has several advantages.

malaya was part of the british empire, which had military assistance pacts with the u.s.
if the u.s. chose to they would have been able to enter the war in that instance. also, have you looked at a map? the philipines with a fuckton of u.s. military presence is between malaya and japan. good luck getting that oil through there.
