Took the PTR-91 GI R out to the range for the first time today. I'm ordering a scope. This rifle deserves it, no shit. I love it, I really do.

Plus, I'm a South Carolina fag, and this makes me happy.

Glad you like it. Does yours have a railed receiver, or need a claw mount like mine?
>>
Yup, has a factory rail, and a steel SEF lower receiver, not the plastic one that people bitch about.
>>
Isn't the GI model the one built to HK spec or something so it doesn't routinely suck like other variants? Sounds like you picked the best of the bunch OP.

The plastic lowers aren't that terrible. A little cloth wrap or a rubber grip thing makes it pretty comfy. Plus it helps cut down on the weight if you're moving and shooting. My gun in this pic >>30170288 weighs almost 15 shitting lbs with a full mag.

Classic wood or GI? They're both about the same price from what I'm seeing, but I love the look of the wood over the GI.
>>
Is there any real benefit to dropping the $99 to HK parts to replace the polymer with metal?

I mean, if you like the look of it, by all means. Fake SEF is kinda cute, even if there is no real *there* there.

But AFA functionality or actual improvement to the rifle, what do you get?
>>

Do they make one with a steel lower and paddle mag release but no rail?

All I see are the railed models, but I'm not really interested in that

Significantly more weight, better/cleaner aesthetics, and a slightly more comfy grip. Though the latter two are subjective obviously.

It would be call the 'ptr91 gi' with no r to designate it having a rail. That being said I think the welded rail is a must

OP here. I just ordered a Nikon Prostaff 7 3.5-12x42mm scope with a Burris QR mount on recommendation from a friend. The scope was only $286 with free shipping. Obviously a $300 scope is a massive piece of shit, but fuck it, it's better than nothing. I'm running a Trijicon ACOG Reflex on it now, and it was fucking tearing up a pie plate at 100 yards today. Once I get the scope dialed in, I'm expecting sub-1" MOA at that same range.

I swear, I fucking love this rifle. I really do.

This is a pic of my son shooting it today.

All the DSAs are cast receiver now, have been for a couple years. The myth with a grain of truth to it is that casting is weaker than forging; the flip side is that it probably won't matter and modern casting might be as good as forging circa 1990 anyway.

I have a tac-latch and I really like it. Pushing right with the thumb lets you get an easy grip on the mag to remove it. It's not leet operator fast, but if that's what you want then you probably have the wrong rifle to begin with.

Also, lefties hate it and can't use it. I consider that a plus.

Indian Creek still a crapshoot on being crowded or empty?
>>
>>30187255
So you dont like that people lile something that you dont?

Kind of childish, wouldnt you say?
>>
>>30173100
The nose knows.
>>
>>30187370
I said I found it weird, what's childish about that? you've never been puzzled by people being super passionate about garbage?
>>
What's the best 91 clone you can get?
>>
>>30187350
Yeah. Total crap shoot. Last three times I went, it was empty. The three times before that, I turned around and went home without even getting out f the car.
>>
>>30187751
A PTR isn't a clone, it's the real deal. After the Feds kept fucking them over with various AWB's, they gave up on the American market, and sold everything off. PTR bought everything from HK, and now the PTR rifles are made using original HK plans, on original HK machines and tooling. Only difference is the factory is now in South Carolina instead of West Germany.
>>
>>30187807
What's the best ptr is what I meant to say
Also can ptrs accept the collapsing stock or is the stock dogshit?
>>
>>30187202
Sounds like sakuya's back at it. Just filter it. All it wants is attention. Don't give it what it wants

You have any trouble putting it on?
>>
>>30187837
The best PTR is the MSG 91 SS. Total custom, straight from the factory. Even has a 20" barrel instead of the standard 18". They are NOT cheap, though.

As far as the collapsable stock goes, if it fits an HK91 or G3, then it fits a PTR. They are the same gun, built on the same machinery, just physically made in two different places. PTR actually sells some rifles from the factory with the collapsible stock already in place. As to whether or not it's a POS, I can't speak to that.

Kinda glad it's an hour away from my house. I usually shoot at PSA, Defender, Live Oaks, or Sandy Run. Those might cost money but at least I'll have space.

Not him, but mine was relatively easy to install. You just need a punch and something to drive the roll pin out from the mag release button.

If you're putting it on a PTR, you'll also need an HK magazine catch, the PTR spec ones don't have the same cut to them.

Also, dunno if it was just my rifle, but there was a slight groove in the receiver where the latch was, that was causing it to feel pretty gritty when it was pressed, so I stuck a little mouldable plastic I had lying around in there, and it smoothed out nicely.
>>
>>30181099
I handload for mine and can consistently shoot 1moa with the factory trigger and a vortex diamondback.
>>
>>30189576
I've been looking at getting a reloading set.
How does yours handle the brass? I've heard people say even a little ding on the casing means it's fucked, and others say there's no problem at all.
>>
>>30189595
Well I added a little black rtv to the ejection port to prevent case damage. But I shot like 300 rounds before that and unless it fucks the case neck they reload just fine.
>>
>>30189613
Thanks, I was planning to get a port buffer, never thought of silicone. That suits my cheapskate ass much better.
>>
>>30189334

Couple more questions, Are they pretty solid or do they feel flimsy? They look like they have a thin shaft. Also, the button still works with these installed right?

They're solid, the metal is more than thick enough where it's not going to bend. Plus, you don't have to press it hard at all to get it to release, which worried me at first, thinking the magazine might not be very secure, but it locks in real well.

You can also use the button, the latch kit comes with another button you'll have to install.

Crazy. This is a literal 2 stoplight town. I have no idea how we could meet, without divulging way too damned much information here. It would be cool though.

Why yes. Yes it is some Indian Creek!

What's the cheapest poorfag scope I could get away with for a non-railed ptr?
>>
>>30194325
you make a burner email and post it here and tell them to email it and in the reply ask them some questions only someone who knows the area would know then go on from there

it creates an email that lasts for 10mintues. use to to get going

IRC channels are a good choice too.
