I would like a full size, single stack, .45 ACP 1911 with a rail. I also prefer single-sided safeties and a non-extended mag release but neither is a deal breaker. I don't own any 1911s currently. I would prefer to spend less than like $1200.

So far I'm like at a Sig (either a Nitron Rail or Traditional Tac Ops) and a Colt Rail Gun because those seem to be the most reliable (reliability is my chief concern). Does anyone have experience with these? Obviously the main difference between the two is the internal vs. external extractor.

Just wondering if anyone can comment on those models or maybe recommend another they have experience with another rail gun.

I own this gun.

It is a good gun.

Buy this gun.

Shit thread OP

If you had 1,911 rail guns just lying around what would you do with them?
>>
I own a Sig Scorpion 1911, and I would highly recommend it. Multiple different finishes to suit your preference (I personally like the Scorpion and Emperor Scorpion), and overall a great gun within your price range.
>>
>>30162901
Cool. Is the mag release really pokin out far? I am super autistic about extended mag releases, I have pushed too many on accident. I suppose I could always change it but... it would be nice for it to be alright from the get go.

I should also add I plan on carrying this sucker. Not worried about the size, I am not interested in anything smaller than full size, I hate small guns.
>>
>>30162843

Thinking about picking one of these Tac Ops up but with a TB. I can't think of a reason not too.
>>
>>30162958
>Cool. Is the mag release really pokin out far?

Not from when I use it or carry it or shoot it, no.

>I should also add I plan on carrying this sucker. Not worried about the size, I am not interested in anything smaller than full size, I hate small guns.

Get a good belt. With a flashlight(And why wouldn't you have a flashlight, if you get a 1911 with a rail, you're definitely gonna put something on it), it can be quite hefty in weight.
>>
>>30163005
I appreciate the input. I'm leaning that way so far. What about the extractor? Some people complain about the slide not going all the way into battery on reloads and from what I understand that's usually an extractor tension problem, but with the external is it more of an extractor spring weight problem?

>>30162928
Yeah the Scorpion is essentially the same gun but a different color.

Thanks everyone for your input.

>>30162913
You are silly.
>>
>>30163039
>Some people complain about the slide not going all the way into battery on reloads and from what I understand that's usually an extractor tension problem, but with the external is it more of an extractor spring weight problem?

This has only been a problem with my shitty reloads.

Factory ammo works fine. I shoot a lot of S&B.
>>
>>30163005
>>30163039
Forgot to add I have some really good stiff reinforced belts, not worried about the weight. And yes I plan to slap a light on there.
>>
Remington R1 enhanced

Para elite or equivalent

Sig

Rock Island (just upgrade some parts)
>>
>>30162843
That's no railgun.

Cool, thanks. I appreciate it. So far looks like Sig is winning. I also hear that externals last longer and are easier to replace than internals. So... anyway. Yeah. Thanks.
>>
Since OP seems to have his question answered. Can anyone suggest a fullsized 1911 doublestack in 9mm?

I also own one, and it's alright. Zero problems with it other than Sig puts a tiny rollpin in the front sight, so it's a PITA to swap sights.
Paid $900 for it.

Yeah... green. Plus the whole USMC thing, I'm not a marine. Plus I'd rather have a Colt than a Springfield if I am going for an internal extractor since they are comparable quality and I just like the Colt history and "made in murica" shit better.
>>
>>30163082
No problem.
>>
>>30163104
>>30163081
I liked the Sig night sights so I've never had a problem with that, good to know though.

Only non-custom 1911 I've shot that was better than my Sig is my Springfield TRP.

The lightweight version has a gun colored frame. Plus the green finish is armorkote, it can be removed and replaced.

if it doesn't have "colt" on it it's not a real 1911 OP

Don't buy into this hype.
>>
Buy the Springfield LB Operator. Or buy any of the Sig or colt offerings.
>>
>>30163202
>if it doesn't say Colt, you aren't paying more money for less features

-ftfy
>>
>>30163414
idk why people say "pay more," in my experience Springfields are anywhere from $100 to $500 more for comparable models. I think the price for most of their guns is pretty reasonable and quality on par with Springfield. When people ask "who is the most reliable out of the box 1911" it's almost always a tie between Colt and Springfield.
>>
>>30162843
OP take a look at the new colt combat unit, its a rail gun with night sights and front grip checkering.

I was debating between the usmc and the combat unit because i wanted the features they came with(too lazy to send shit to a smith and wait for them to install shit). I ended up deciding to go with the combat unit because of the front grip serrations and night sights. Just waiting for pay day to get it.
>>
>>30163952
I have looked at it. Expensive though and I am 110% sure I would change those goofy-ass grips...

From what I have heard though they changed the finish on the Rail Guns to ion bond, made it a single side safety and put an M45 recoil spring so apart from the frontstrap checkering and maybe a little funsmith attention they are pretty similar now.

I prefer the emperor scorpion because the regular scorpion's grips look like the back of that toad who gives birth through its pores
>>
>>30163414
1999 and The Firing Line forums called, they want their meme back.
>>
>>30164056
Fair enough point. I personally prefer the Scorpion grips over the Emperor Scorpion flat black ones, but they're essentially the same gun aside from the finish so whichever is more aesthetically pleasing for you.

I own a Colt Rail Gun. If reliability is what you want, the rail gun is a good choice. In the hundreds of rounds I've put through mine it only fte one time on aluminum cased ammo. Otherwise it has been utterly reliable. Also, it has a pony on the side.

>>
>>30165989
So I hear. Reliability is my first priority and the Colt comes highly recommended for that from what I have read. But I don't like how it has an internal extractor, no front strap checkering, and the older models have an ambi safety which I don't really prefer. I could live with those things though, they are not deal breakers. Just like how the Sigs seem a little easier to maintain. I plan on shooting a lot.

>>

Springfield Range Officer Operator, it checks all your boxes except external extractor, which is a retarded preference but I'm not here to tell you what to like.
>>
>>30163105

>operating with a 1911

kek enjoy running out of ammo when the threat has a glock 17 and has twice as much ammo as you

>f-forty f-five s-s-stronk
>>
>>30167114

Average defensive gun use is between 2-3 shots fired.

But if you're that worried, you know they make double stack 1911s, right?
>>
Broke ass Kentucky boy here. Are Para 1911's worth a damn?
>>
>>30167052
If someone other than RIA made something like that I'd definitely pick one up. Not saying RIA is bad, but I prefer my Sigs and Springfields.

>>30168346
Depends on what type of Para (slight variation in the names depending on when they were made). Some have a pretty good reputation and others are regarded as meh because the company had such a tumultuous timeline.
>>
>>30168437

was looking into the GI Expert. I'm going to google what you said, but any references or info of "when" to buy from? Any tips on affordable 1911 (broke guy affordable) would be really appreciated
>>
>>30163351

I live about an hour from there and shop there frequently. Don't know about their online orders, but IRL their gunshop is FUCKING AWESOME and great prices to boot. love that place
>>
>>30168549
What I mean by the different name variations is that you'll notice some are referred to as just Para 1911s while others are Para Ordnance or Para USA. They're all technically the same but the reputation of Para fluctuated a bit. I know the old Black Ops 1911s (the ones with the different roll mark) were known for being pretty good. I honestly don't know much about the GI Expert so I can't help much there but as for "broke guy affordable" 1911s, Rock Island Armory is known for being good quality for the price you can get them for.
>>
>>30168592

>Rock Island Armory

I completely forgot about them, I too have heard some pretty positive things. I read somewhere that they use old machines from Colt or Springfield (I think) and that their QC is very good. Some guys I know have told me that when you buy Sig or Colt or whatever 1911's you're basically just paying for better steel and a fancy name.

anyway thanks for the info
>>
Would milling an 80% save any money overall? Assuming you don't fuck it up.
>>
>>30168694
nope, the cost of jigs, tooling and work is way over the now standard 50 dollar price of a stripped cerro forge lower.
>>
>>30167052
Is there a point to this other than aesthetics? Because I think they look dumb.

>>30168437
Pretty sure the TRP comes in a full rail version.
>>

>Pretty sure the TRP comes in a full rail version.

You're right, didn't even know that and I own a standard rail TRP. Now I have to go get another 1911 I guess.
>>
>>30167105
>i'm not here to tell you what you like

Fucking thank you. I wish others were more like you.

And the thing that turned me off about the RO was the steel and finish. Parkerized CS will rust way easier and believe me I plan on putting this gun through its paces. That includes backpacking/camping, daily carry, maybe some classes, everything.

If it were stainless and/or had a better finish I would probably just nab it since it's so much cheaper than other good quality 1911s.

I might just get it anyway (to see if I will even like 1911s in the first place) and keep it oiled up all the time.

This guy's right by the way. There's nothing inherently wrong with internal extractors. They're not that hard to adjust and if properly adjusted they work perfectly.

Externals are like full length guide rods: they make it harder to strip, add proprietary parts, and let companies charge you more money for an "upgrade" all while not adding to the reliability.

tl;dr If you think an external extractor is a big deal, the 1911 is not for you.
