Help me /k/. My police buddy brought his police issue benelli M4/M1014 to the range. It is by far the best shotgun i've ever shot and from what i've seen its really reliable. Is it worth 2k to buy one as a home defense and range fun? I just need a second opinion before I get one so I don't waste two grand. I'm not looking for alternatives, just yes or no

Alright asshole, then no. The M4 is indeed an exquisitely fine shotgun, but it sure as fuck aint worth the asking price when there are other options that do the same thing for half the price, or in the case of the VEPR12, do even more, for 1/3 the price.

The benelli was tits when it came out, there are better out now.
Shotguns are pretty substandard when it comes to HD compared to a carbine.
Just buy a basic 870 or Mossberg 500. Spend a few bucks shooting it- take to the local trap range, sporting clays, and bowling pins.
Put the other $1500 in the bank.

And as for it being a home defense/range gun think about this.
You could build/buy a good quality AR-15, get a good sling, a good red dot and light, and tons of mags and good defensive ammo for the same price as just a 5 round M4. For me 30 rounds of 75 gr Hornady is better than 5 rounds of 00 buck or any shotgun load for that matter.
I have to admit the M4s with the straight stocks do get my dick hard though. The breaching models too are pure sex.

I would rather have a beater 500 as HD gun than a fucking AR setup like that. Less shit to worry about when the police have to confiscate it should I need to use it.

internally a Remington VersaMax is almost identical, dual pistons and all.
personally my 3gun shotgun is a Beretta 1301. shot a VersaMax when i was trying out shotguns. it was extremely soft shooting. hard to load, heavy, and didn't quite swing "right", though.
