Newly hasguns here,
Going out to bear /k/ountry this weekend, only have SKS. Is it a viable platform for wilderness defense? Am I considered a poacher if I shoot a charging bear?
>inb4 just buy bearspray
>inb4 skinwalkers

Black bear, correct? As a passionate lover of the SKS, I sincerely wouldn't recommend it. I imagine it's certainly possible to take the smaller blackies with 7.62x39, it is 30-30 lite after all I certainly wouldn't want to do it with a 10 round internal box.
It seems like x39 could penetrate enough to hit bear organ, it would just come down to shot placement. If you have enough practice with the rifle and think you could hit a charging bear accurately then go ahead.

Yes mainly blackbears. It's all I've got so I guess I'll just keep a fire going and hope for the best.

I hope so, but I just don't want to run in with one. Canadian, so only half of the ammo capacity :(

Unless you stumble upon a black bear with cubs, or step on it. you will almost never need to shoot one.
it will run 99/100 just by seeing or hearing you.
That said, an SKS is fine. just bring some extra clips or if it's converted, extra mags.
What are you taking for the skinwalkers though?

Turn in your Tim Horton, syrup, and poutine licenses, you embarrassment. I bet you voted Trudeau and don't even say sorry enough.

The secret is to break the law and have an ar15 with 100 rd drum mag loaded with baby seeking ammunitions.

There's no ATF to shoot your dog in Canada, what do you have to lose?
