CoD 2 was my first WWII shooter. on my first playthrough (the second hardest difficulty) I got to Hill 400 and the game glitched somehow so that after killing the last mortar crew the checkpoint was not saved and the mission never progressed. there was no safe place to hide from both enemy fire and grenades. Germans would constantly respawn and flank from all sides. I would last a few minutes, die, and restart at the 2nd to last mortar crew. I'd last a few more minutes and die. last 15 minutes and die. last 30 minutes and die. last an hour with many many close calls, then die.
it wasn't until the next day I went to the library and checked gamefaqs.com and realized something was wrong.
even so that glitch gave me a greater respect for the fear, hopelessness, and futility that soldiers must have felt than any book, movie, or documentary had up until that point.

There is no point in adding bullet drop if you're not exaggerating it, or you are ArmA. The ranges in which combat takes place are to short to where realistic bullet drop would be negligible. The reason they add it is to add a small skill factor into "long range" shooting, while also being able to boast to fudds about having realistic shooting mechanics, most who swallow that statement whole.

All of those terrifying, close moments should be balanced out by normal 200-300~ engagement ranges, and some that are 500-600, as well. Can't shoot what you can't see, also long range battles are infinitely boring for the average gamer, who cannot possibly appreciate realistic combat, which cannot be heart pumping and arenaline filled unless you are actually there in real life. The devs chose a slower muzzle velocity, but doesn't model bullets slowing down. Their reason is that modeling the bullet slowing down puts a lot more strain on the servers because it has to look up bullet velocity from a table for every round fired. Right now they just have a constant value.
How they "model" aerodynamics is by having different rates of bullet drop. Assault rifles have bullet drop at 9.8 m/s^2, guns that shoot non-spitzer bullets drop at 15 m/s^2, and a few sniper rifles have 4.9m/s^2 drop.
