Is it just me, or have pistol caliber carbines seen a significant uptick in popularity recently? Why is this?

9mm box of 50, 9 bucks
5.56 box of 50, $25
That is why.
>>
>>30143448
Because most pistol calibers out of a rifle type system are pretty fucking fun and pistol ammo is cheap as fug
>>
>>30143460
Please tell me where I can get 50 rounds of 9mm for that price that isn't Tula

Not being snarky, I legitimately want to know. I'm getting a 9mm soon and I hunger for ammo.

Walmart has this stuff for $9.95 a box. Reasonably clean. No stoppages in 550 rounds and counting.
>>
>>30143448
>9mm is cheap
>9mm is effective
>9mm is soft recoiling
>often times can use pistol mags
>9mm especially in lighter or hotter loads can reach excellent velocities out of a 16" barrel
>9mm has less muzzle blast out of a shorter barrel than say .223
>most of these guns are blowback which is stupid reliable and simple
>can still generally get 30 round mags

There are a lot of good qualities in a pistol caliber carbine, short or long barreled. Will it deliver the same energy as a .223 SBR? No. But that doesn't mean they are inadequate or serve no purpose. Maybe for someone who can only afford one "long gun" and one hand gun would benefit from having say a glock 19 and a 9mm AR that takes Glock mags. A 9mm out of a 5, 6, hell let alone a 16" barrel is still effective at ranges that would be hard to make hits at with a handgun. 1, maybe even 200 meters depending on loading or barrel length. I like em but dont have one yet.

why are they so dumb guys?hk getting wind of this last.

Germany has fucktarded export laws for firearms to my understanding and the MP5 market in the US probably isnt big enough to justify making an export/import compliant version. I imagine at the price theyre asking for, only hardcore collectors are going to purchase them. The zenith guns are much better bang for buck for actual shooters.

because they are cheaper and just as fun to shoot. Also, judging from posts on /k/ you can shoot them at some indoor ranges if that's your thing.

I love my CX4. Just a lot of fun to shoot. Serves no other purpose than that. Then again, my PS90 serves no purpose other than being fun to shoot.

>>
>>30143448
You aren't wrong. 2016 certainly is gearing up to be the year of the PCC. Me personally I think it's because they are fun to shoot, relatively versatile (they make good brush guns for small critters), and they come in some very cool varieties. If the NFA didn't exist I guarantee the last 60 years would have been 60 years of PCC in sbr form selling like hot cakes.
>>
>>30144144

90% of people don't actually shoot their guns all that much (ever) so they don't realize how laughable 9mm out of a "PCC" is in the real world.

Pistol Caliber Carbines are fun as fuck

narrow minded people who can't comprehend the concept of a cheap funny rifle that can be shot at every pistol range at a fraction of the cost of a rifle cartridge should keep their stupidity to themselves

If you want a carbine why not do what the military does and go with a 14.5 (pinned but still)?

9mm SBR is best SBR.

>>30146131
>using a sub 1lb pistol

>>
>>30143760

They're releasing a new MP5 style pistol in the near future for US.

It's more expensive and lacks things like the threaded or 3 lug barrel the Zenith has.

I wish it would have been comparable, but theaws made it what it is I guess and Zeniths were ready to ship, so that's what I did.
>>
>>30143448

I'd be curious to see how this correlates with sales of suppressors, which seem to be more popular than ever.

Pistol calibres supress well and subsonic ammo is readily available.

This might sound crazy but I think the increase in steel target popularity/availability has something to do with it. You can shoot plates at pistol ranges with PCCs.
>>
>>30148524

>$2699.99

What the fuck. It's a stamped steel blowback gun that's been in production for almost half a century.

It shouldn't cost a third of that.
>>
>>30148693

Open bolt SMGs and their conversions are actually kind of meh (the full autos are fun for a while longer until the novelty of transforming large amounts of money into noise wears off.)
Wish I hadn't fallen for that meme, both my UZI and PPSh are just collecting dust nowadays.

This is just what HK does, release a gun with an absurd price on the US market and then pull it a little while later because they aren't selling well. Then they blame it's failure on lack of demand, never mind the neutered features and ridiculous price.

>pistol calibers are cheaper to shoot than centerfire rifle rounds
>.22 LR has become more expensive and is still hard to find in some areas
>pistol calibers are just as effective as centerfire rifle rounds for shooting inside 100 yards at the range
>pistol calibers still have recoil somewhat comparable to lighter centerfire rifle rounds
>pistol calibers are more comfortable to shoot from guns with short barrels
>the AR-15 has become objectively the best intermediate caliber rifle in the price range that most people are willing to pay so companies need to innovate in a different area
A lot of gun owners use their guns for fun on the range and don't care about the gun being the most effective thing to use in a situation that they will likely never be in.

Cheap to feed.
Easy to operate.
Fun to shoot.

PCC's are starting to make their way into more shooting sports too from what I've seen. USPSA released some rules for a PCC division and local clubs are starting to allow them at matches. Local Steel Challenge matches are starting to allow PCC's as well. Now that there's a good place to use them for competition, expect to see their popularity continue to grow.
>>
>>30148725

This is it for me. I love to shoot steel and there's more opportunity to do it with pistol calibers.

I built a 9mm SBR with this in mind.
