Heres the last thread:

>>30100269

Thanks god we ain't gonna need to read the questions of the lost guys from the MEG thread. Now remember, this thread is for the discussion of the military aspects of the wars and conflicts on the Middle east. Be polite, contribute and back your points with proofs.

For reports:
-After crossing the Qarah Qawzaq bridge and link with the forces coming from the Tishrin Dam, the majority of the fighting between the SDF/YPG against ISIS is happening around Karsan, east of Manbij.

-The SAA is preparing something in Aleppo, as they are bombing and shelling the northern outskirts of the city. Soon we will discover what it is; two bets could be the encirclement of the Rebels in Aleppo itself, or another assault to take back Khan Touman.

-Major General Ashraf Taha, Syrian police I presume, was released by the prisoners of the Hama Central Prison (Yes, this shit is still ongoing). He is in good health.

I gonna let Fallujah and Deir ez zor to Five Stars.

Yep, it's more like southwest of Aleppo.

Some reports that I forgot to post, before I leave for today:

- Southern Front Rebels declared that they will now only focus on fighting ISIS forces and affiliates in the Region.

- A 47 hours truce that was being proposed was acepted by both parts in Daraaya.

- Ivan Sidorenko is saying that the SAA preparations for pushing east, from Palmyra, towards Deir ez Zor are all done, and that now they will begin this operation. (?!?)

Breaking of IS taking the village of Um Thubyan on the Iraqi/Syrian border, near Shadadi, from the YPG/SDF in a surprise attack today. This could be ISs responding to Manbij. They love open a new front in the middle of a opposition offensive.

-heavy fighting in Deir Ezzor but nothing big so far

-IS still in Kafr Kalbyn between Azaz and Mare

-air raids across Syria, too many to list

-SDF/YPG continues their attack toward Manbij but I have no breaking on it.

Fighting continues around Fallujah. AJ story on at least 130 Iraqi forces killed around Fallujah.

I will be out for part of my morning, but gonna let some stuff for you guys here. Use Dr Partizan twitter to get some good footage and images of the new Manbij operation.

As some images show, both passageways of the Qareqowzaq bridge have been destroyed, and the SDF/YPG used rafts to tranpass the river. Also, by the images, it seems that the majority of the forces are from the arab groups of the SDF, like the Northern Sun Battalion which the logo appear in some technicals.

According to Hassan Ridha, the clashes are still 10km away from Manbij, mainly in the cities/villages of Kharfan, Karsan and Jubb Hasan Agha, as the SDF approach in three wings.

I do have more on the Manbij offensive. IS claims 10 US airstrikes east and south of the SDF/YPG advance and now a IS counter attack at Khafiat Abu Qalqal. If that is true this is the first attempt by IS to slow them down. Before this they were offering token resistance and falling back toward Manbji.

Ruaf and USAF are very active with IS trying to counter. Weather forecasting steel rain for the next few hours.

Pro SAA source, Hassan, is saying that the SAA forces advance is still ongoing in the north Ithriya area; They reported the capture of some four hills east of Ithriya and reports of heavy artillery are bombarding on ISIS positions along the Ithriya-Tabqa highway. Looks like that is from here that the SAA have choosen to start advancing towards Taqba/Raqqa, but is still some 100km to go.

Hassan also reported that ISIS have captured Um al-Dhubyan, southeast of al-Shadadi, and Um Jaris, southeast of al-Khatouniyah, after clashes with SDF in Hassakah governorate. If true, is probably the tipical ISIS "gonna press you elsewhere when under threat" tactic.

Arterbury with the full statement. I think some healthy skepticism is deserved for both claims.

That said pro IS sources are not disputing the YPG/SDF Manbji offensive gains to a point, barring a few villages. SDF/YPG still moving on Manbji however their paced slowed a little.

Latest reports of fights from the Manbij front are of clashes on Abo Qalqal and al-Nashi villages, south of Manbij, some hours ago.

Early in the day, clashes have also been reported on Dushan, east of Manbij, as ISIS was probably trying to delay the SDF advance or repel them back to their bridge head.

Talking on the Qara Qawzaq bridge, SDF/YPG started to repair the bridge, and when I say repair, it means pic related; nothing out of extraordinary, just put lots of rocks on the downed parts of the bridge.

Pro Kurdish, Dr Partizan, is saying that one NRT journalist is saying that the SDF/YPG are already on Manbij outskirts, and that ISIS is using civilians as human shields.

Back to Afrin Canton, the YPG stopped a van loaded with ammo coming from Turkey that was meant for the Rebels, that what they said.

In Mare, North Aleppo, Coalition planes dropped crates with supplies for the Rebels over there, as they are still cutted off from the Azaz pocket and the Turkish border.

The pro SAA sources still claim that the SAA is advancing along the Ithiyra-Taqba Highway. The composition of their forces are: the Desert Hawks, elements/remnants of the 10th or 11th Armored Division, NDF, and elements from other militia groups, like the SSNP.

Here's a video of them:

Hot damn, the Kurds are on a role what with floating shit across the river on barges and pushing IS back. I do think the move for immediate autonomy was premature though, should've waited for that.

Latest reports on the Manbij front, are that SDF currently have the south gate of the city in their sights and are shelling the silos on the outskirts, but, according to this source, they "will not storm city until units from Qarah Qawzaq reach east side of city".

It's a IS hub. A lot of their fighters are based there. While these same fighters go to locations in eastern Homs or Aleppo etc their "home base" so to speak is Manbij. They may defend it fiercely. So far they melted out of the countryside. The city is another matter.

If they do with US SF on hand plus a large SDF/YPG force it could turn into a large battle.
>>

It's where a lot of ISIS families live.

Another JAN VBIED in reported in Khalasah and JAN claiming SAA forces retreated from Qalaajiyah. It's on the side closer to M5. Those guys are in trouble.
Jaf came out swinging today and it's a disaster for the Shia militia on the front lines. I am sure a few Iranians got caught in it as well but most of them are in Al Hadher.

Some minor but interesting stuff from the SAA advance towards Raqqa;

- The SSNP boys in charge of dismantling ISIS IEDs during fights near Zakia crossroads had found something very creative and deadly; ISIS IEDs disguised as rocks, as you can see in the picture.

The SAA troops also killed the ISIS driver of a BMP SVBIED, before he could detonate. They also claim that they killed 70 ISIS fighters around the Zakia junction.

Faylaq Al-Sham commander, Lieu. Col. Bilal al-Atrash, was killed today in south Aleppo.

As many of the footage already posted here can clearly show, the Rebels in SOuth Aleppo are using, again, agressive and quick armored attacks against the the Shia militia guarded positions, to quick gain small concentrated objectives. The South Aleppo Rebels are generally the factions in this civil war who best use their armored assets.

According to pro SAA sources, clashes are now at Qal'ajiyah and Khalsah, and pro gv forces still hold Qarassi. I think that if the SAA let the Shia militias to fend of the Rebels attack for themselves, the shia militias will probably keep losing.

In North Aleppo, Azaz Rebels are preparing to try to break out the MAre siege, again.

Well Raqqa is Arab territory. I wouldn't I it past the Kurds to try and hold it permenently but if they try to hold a lot of Arab land after this is all over that will mean another war

Well what happened to all that fucking armor the saa put in Aleppo? I think it's obvious it was a bluff now but is it all moving toward Raqqa did they not leave anything behind Incase this happened?
>>
>>30157743
The Kurds has that taken into account by adopting some level of power-sharing of captured territory with SDF Arabs, especially along the lower reaches of the Euphrates where Arabs are more numerous. The SDF has already made a statement during the current Manbij offensive that Arab SDF forces will be managing Manbij once it falls into their hands.

If the SDF by some miracle takes Raqqa, you may be seeing more SDF Arabs than Kurds keeping the peace, at least until the SAA catches up. My money's on that place being under SDF and SAA control eventually if Raqqa is wrestled from IS.

Their methodology is pretty simple. A little preparatory bombardment from a couple of howtizers, mortars, sometimes some Grads or Elephant rockets if it's within range

Then a very large SVBIED if it's a hardened position

Then usually 2x MBTs and 2-3x BMPs. Sometimes foot infantry accompanies this wave. A couple dozen men hit the targeted position in the first wave.

Then there is a follow-on wave in technicals.
They concentrate the attack on one position, usually one with few obstacles in the path of the vehicles and only one layer of earth berm as defense.
>>

Thing is the whole reason Jaish al Fateh is trying to blitz south Aleppo again is the elite manpower of the SAA is elsewhere. That's how bled thin the actual weight carriers are. Left behind to defend southern Aleppo are rag tag militias, foreigners, and a motley crew of SAA. I'm sure some SAA unit with some actual competence is currently being spirited away from another front to try and combat that offense.

>“In general they are much weaker now. I have been fighting them for two years. They used to conquer the land; now they can’t hold the area … And we also have changed; we don’t depend on armoured vehicles. We started using their techniques of infantrymen spreading through the high grass.”

Baghdad has really changed its tune concerning sectarianism in its military operations, but the problem is that all the Sunni soldiers piss themselves and fuck off back home. They can't use Shi'a militias when retaking Sunni areas either. What are they going to do?

Just to add to this >>30164453 ;

The Tiger Forces are still stationed in Aleppo, even if nobody know what they plan to do.

The SDF/YPG Northern Raqqa operation, reported four or five days ago, was a bluff to diverge ISIS attention while the SDF crossed the the Euphrates River and advanced hard into Manbij.

The mix of SAA forces is still advancing quite without much problems, until now, towards Taqba/Raqqa. The armored reinforcements reported few days ago, as going to Aleppo, are indeed the ones with the SAA in Raqqa.

Of course SAA would throw a heavy mechanized unit into assault into open desert against an enemy that has shown to have the ability to melt away into said desert to regroup and operates in small units when in desert area all the while SAA is loosing in an area where a heavy mechanized unit would do wonders against an enemy that is committed to fighting for static positions.

I don't think that it's so much slav engineering as it is the SAA's tendency to just pile up ammunition in the open.

Actually it was the Iran sponsored Shi'a militias that stopped the advance of IS in Iraq.

>A 17-month U.S. effort to retrain and reunify Iraq's regular army has failed to create a large number of effective Iraqi combat units or limit the power of sectarian militias, according to current and former U.S. military and civilian officials.

>Concern about the shortcomings of the American attempt to strengthen the Iraqi military comes as Iraqi government forces and Shi’ite militias have launched an offensive to retake the city of Falluja from Islamic State. Aid groups fear the campaign could spark a humanitarian catastrophe, as an estimated 50,000 Sunni civilians remain trapped in the besieged town.

>But Garver acknowledged that the lion’s share of military offensives has been spearheaded by the Special Forces, and that two years of battle are taking a toll on Iraq’s elite soldiers.

>“The Government of Iraq has relied heavily on the Iraqi special operations forces and the potential for these forces being depleted into combat ineffectiveness is a real concern,” he said.

>50,000 Sunni civilians remain trapped

Im not trying to be an edgyshitlord, but pre US battle of falluja the population was 250,000 people in the low estimates. Apparently there are non IS supporters there:

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/05/residents-fleeing-fallujah-horrific-isil-rule-160531053836836.html

But at this point im inclined to believe that the only people left have got to be hardcore shia hatin sunni types and isis sympathizers.

>>
>>30170136
So your plan to reconcile the shia and sunni is for the shia militias to massacre some tens of thousands of civilians and leveling the whole city without concern to any collateral damage?

That will surely teach the sunnis their lessons for relying on ISIS protection against the shia government abuses.

Ah, so it insults them. Alright. I was just thinking, silly me, that using DAESH instead of ISLAMIC STATE was a way the liberal media used to avoid saying that the ISLAMIC State has anything to do with the Islamism.

ISIS in conflict in Northern Aleppo with FSA rebels.

Damn that close combat cat and mouse between traffic at 9:30.

Apparently the civilian truck drivers were helping the ISIS guys out by
calling out FSA who were creeping through the traffic.

>>

more like video games are like real life, but yeah I know. From playing so much arma damn does war ever feel like a game.

And it's hardly being retarded, its just the nature of close combat. Shit ends fast and it's scary to be in.

Of course it is, just seems to large and heavy compared to Panzerfaust 3 for example

I already have a habit of consistently looking behind my back in FPS to make sure no one is sneaking up. I feel like I'd be the next Abu Hajaar in real combat.

It's the nature of close combat. It's a place where the line between life and death gets thinner than ever, between miliseconds.

To clarify Daesh (more accurately Da'ish) is basically the the Arab language equivalent of the English ISIS/ISIL acronym. IS is known in Arabic as "al-Dawlah al-Islamīyah fī al-ʻIrāq wa-al-Shām".

"Da'ish" not officially used by Islamic State supporters because the a simple spelling like that could be twisted to insult the Islamic State, so they get really autistic about wanting Arabic speakers to referred to it in its full name. Naturally Arabic speakers who hate the Islamic State's guts use "Da'ish" anyway to spite them. That's how the mainstream news caught on about it being an "insult" without understanding the context.
