Hopefully I don't derail the thread too badly, but I have a question.

Something happened this past semester at college and I want to start carrying IWB on the daily to school. Probably appendix carry. I have zero carry experience, and would like a few recommendations on a good leather gun belt that just looks like a casual everyday belt. I would also love it if anyone knows of a better Makarov holster than the Outbags one that I currently have as it rides much too high.

I will eventually pick up a Sig P938.

I have an M&P Shield 9mm by Smith and Wesson.

It's a very soft shooting gun for its size which can't be said about other single stack 9mm's.

A good amount of aftermarket like Trijicon HD sights, Talon grips, Apex Tactical and Magguts springs.

But it's true. I am a Smith and Wesson Customer Service Representative!

But I'll be quite frank. The only gripes I have with the Smith and Wesson M&P Shield is that it's quite a bother to put a magazine into it when it is closed, requiring extra effort when conducting "tac-reloads" and the slide stop cannot function as a slide release.

The Glock 43 to my knowledge has the ability to close home when utilizing the slide release.

But don't tell my boss I said this! I could get fired!

What are you talking about? I've listed two negatives about the Shield.

OP (Original Poster) has a budget of $490. The Shield is reasonably cheaper at $350 (or $320 in some cases) with the rest of the money able to go to things like a gunbelt, holster and hollowpoint ammunition.

A Glock 43 would be at $450 at a minimum new and you don't even get metal sights!

I was on a lunch break earlier and I swung by the mall to buy some socks and looked at the Glock 43 over at Cabellas and boy, I might buy one cause it sure felt nice!

But don't tell my boss I said this! I could get fired!
>>
>>30136637

The safety on a shield is smaller than the size of your average person's pinky nail. You're not going to be able to operate that miniscule thing under stressful conditions.

A shield will do everything a Glock 43 will do. It's also less expensive, carries an extra round stock, comes with an extended magazine, and has better sights.

The only "drawback" is a manual safety. Either get the model without one, train to use it. Also magazines are hard to seat on a closed bolt. Train around it.

This may not make sense now, but OP, buy a Taurus TCP. They go for $175 new are are one of the better pocket .380's. you can't afford anything that is really good without not buying anything else, and what would be the point of that?

I would say makarov, but the 9x18 isn't that great compared to even a .380.

The Rami's lack of a proper decocker (on the decocker model) turns me off.

It doesn't make any sense imo to just lower it to half cock. Why would you want to carry at half cock where the hammer can get snagged on shit
>>
>>30134455

Glock 43 or Shield

Shield has safety so there's that if you like to carry cocked and locked.

I feel like the Shield's ergos are much better, it fits nicer in the hand and as a result doesn't feel as snappy as the Glock when shooting.

Both have pretty shitty triggers from the factory imo, though the Shield's is a little less terrible.

Shield's flush fit magazine holds more vs the Glock's, but Shield's 8 round magazine is retardedly fuckhuge. Seriously does it really need to be that much bigger for 1 extra round? Glock has some nice baseplates which expand capacity while still staying smaller than the Shield's 8 round magazine.

Both have a fuckhuge aftermarket so any issue you may have is fixable I guess. From the factory overall I'd say Shield has the advantage, while keeping a lower price tag so you can blow your extra bucks on correcting its flaws. The Glock I would personally want to put a little more money into before I'd feel comfortable CCing it. In the end they're both great guns and you can't go wrong either way.
