Looking for some advice on a general-purpose shotgun for my home.
I previous had a Remington 870, and it was great. That being said, I no longer have it :(
I'm looking for a shotgun that fulfills the following criteria:
>12 ga
>Capable of firing versatile loads
>Good for outdoors, occasionally
>Short barrel (20 ish or less) for home defense
>Workhorse (durable, simple)
>Economical (under $500)
I'll be using it for home defense and occasional small game hunting (possibly large game with slugs, but from less than 50m for most shots).
I'm leaning towards the Mossberg 88, but I was just curious to see if anyone knew of some good alternatives to compare against.

Mossberg 590A1
>12 ga
>I can successfully fire those neat mini shells by Aquilla
>works anywhere
>my barrel is around 18 inches I think, I know it's a very short shotgun in comparison to others. Either way, you can easily find a barrel size to fit whatever need you have
>All steel construction, simple to take apart and clean
>I got mine for around $375 in Orlando
pic is mine, taken on my shitty phone a couple years ago, still works perfectly.

>Mossberg 590A1
That looks damn near perfect.
Is that like a beefier version of the 500?
Thanks for the recommendation.

From Wikipedia:
>"Both the Model 500 and Model 590 have polymer trigger guards & safeties and standard barrels. The Model 590A1 has an aluminum trigger guard & safety, a heavier barrel, and a bayonet lug (although some versions of the 590 also have bayonet lugs), intended for military use under extreme conditions and rough handling; the metal trigger guard was added in response to the 3443G materials requirements, and the heavy barrel was added at the request of the Navy to prevent barrel deformation if the shotgun caught in the closing of heavy steel ship doors."
So yes. the 590A1 is made primarily for military use, so it's a tank of a shotgun.

you forgot another important thing about the 590A1 anon
>Bayo Lug for general watermelon fuckery

Only the Navy would ask Mossberg to change the design of their shotgun to make the barrel resistant to being slammed in ship doors instead of just stopping slamming their shotguns in the doors of their ships.

The point was that so someone couldn't close a door on you.
