Ruger 10/22 vs. Remington 597 vs. Marlin .22

Hello /k/ and thank you for taking the time to read this.

I'm a younger guy and newer to collecting firearms (22) and I'm looking to buy a .22 for my very humble collection.

The ones I was looking into were as follows

>10/22
>remmy 597
>marlin .22

But I am open to suggestions. I really liked the aesthetic of the tactical takedown and the tiger designed wooden stocked 10/22

My main and only concern is reliability and performance and aesthetic is very very far behind for this rifle.

Again thanks for reading and any replies are greatly appreciated even if they're just bumps.

I've read that the 597s have a lot of feeding issues and reliability issues but once you install $60~ of aftermarket parts they are easily the highest performing magazine fed .22 rifles on the market. I'm not sure how accurate this statement is tho. ~ OP

Can you explain? I'm really wanting some facts about the firearm if possible. This thread is to compliment my own research so any advice and shared knowledge is greatly appreciated.

Oh I also meant to note I'm in the market for semi auto for the most part but I suppose a good enough price/reliable enough gun would convince me to reconsider on bolt.

>I'm really wanting some facts about the firearm if possible
The Ultra Lux model (the one I have pictured with the 28" barrel) is quieter than my .177 air rifle with just plane jane bulk cheap shit ammo and is easily capable of producing dime sized groups at ~65 yards

10/22, hands down

They shoot great just out of the box, and with so many aftermarket parts you could turn it into any kind of rifle you wanted
>>
>>30118716
597 has a horrible barrel-receiver attachment method the reliability is alright as long as you only used round nosed .22lr and nothing with a hole (ie 36 grain copper plated .22lr hunting rounds)

also if you get a pistol grip for it the rear receiver-stock attachment bolt creates and annoying space between the grip and trigger guard that makes it awkwards to place your index finger on the trigger....

10/22 is alright but it has a retarded bolt lockout bar but no bolt hold open and the method for pulling out a magazine is shit.
>>
>>30118723
>>30118761
>Semi auto
In that case 10/22. I've got an old Marlin 60 that I love to death but there's a reason why 10/22s are as popular as they are. They're the king of the .22lr world.
>>
>>30118776
yea you can make it look like anything but that doesn't make it that rifle, dressup fags are fags
>>
Hey guise, talk me out of buying a chippa badger in favor of a more traditional .22lr. Or don't, and tell me it's worth the buck fifty

Not what I was saying, it's still a semi auto 22lr rifle, just you can make it a bench rifle or handy rifle or whatever the fuck you want.

whats a good but cheap 22 bolt action, am I better off getting surplus bolt action at that point?

>>30118793
Yeah I think that's what its looking like from my research. I don't have a ton of money to play with at all so I need to make the absolute best decision while I can.

Thats what my dad's gf says. Aftermarket stuff is apparently really wide in variety.

Marlin for out of the box

Ruger for customizing (buy a used one for this for gods sake, it makes it cheaper to start from).

Remington if you like the suck.

I literally bought a Remington 597 just 20 minutes ago and it's sitting on my lap. Obviously haven't had time to take it to the range. Based on initial assessment:
- Seems sturdy and heavy duty with no apparent QC flaws on disassembly.
- Cheap fuckers only ship with one 10 round magazine.
- Magazine spring was a little stiff. 9 rounds went in fine but 10 was a real struggle. This will probably loosen with time.
- Everything I have ever read says that the magazine quality is extremely hit or miss. I will get ambitious on the weekend and try to build my own 30 rounders.
- Synthetic stock is adequate but ugly. I hate how much it sticks out around the sides of the action. I will probably get ambitious and build my own wood stock later in the year.
- Paid $199.00 Canuck-bucks (+HST).
>>
>>30119052
You may end up having to spend an extra $60 if it doesnt feed properly. I've been reading about people having to replace mag springs too but its a good thing your mag is stiff.

>Here's the deal, I have a Remington 597 and i love it but our relationship started rocky.

>The first thing you should know is the fatal flaw of the 597 is the extractor, it sucks and it basically ruins the gun. Makes it so bad functioning you don't or won't want to shoot it. The GREAT news is Volquartsen makes an AWESOM AMAZING extractor for $20 bucks, and replacing it just cannot be overstated how a difference it makes on the overall shooting of the gun. Further they make a $40 "target" hammer for the gun, again just completely revolutionizing the operation and shootability of the gun ... for $20 and $40 = $60, and its just an amazing upgrade.

Saw this on another thread. it's what got me interested in modding it in the first place. hope it helps.

No problem man good luck with it. Sounds like a fun project to me DESU. I hear they are a superior rifle when modified but idk anything for shit desu you'll have to be a field tester sir. If its true advocate for those things like no tomorrow. I hope all goes well for you brother.

>>
>>30118849
making a 10/22 look like a g36 doesn't make it shoot any better or make you any better with the rifle (you can find excellent ergonomics without the dressup kit with better quality stock and grip parts as well as bedding) If you want to attach a rail, scope, suppressor, bipod, laser, go for it if it makes you shoot better.

Aw man, but then my grandpa wouldn't have had that awesome 'Reagan of the month' wall calendar right before he died. March was him riding on a horse with a cowboy hat. That calendar probably kept him going that last year fueled on hate and rage alone.
