People like to bring up one quote as evidence he's anti gun, but if you read the whole interview the quote is from it seems more like he is just personally not comfortable being near them, he never talks about actual gun control, and playing Burt got him interested in the survivalist idea in general and made him start stockpiling emergency provisions in his house.
He personally doesn't want guns in his home, but he seems to understand why other people want them and to my knowledge has never condemned them for that difference of opinion. He said he liked playing Burt because he was about using guns to protect human lives, not end them, and gun safety was a big part of his character.
