I saw like 2 stolen valor guys during my stint as a fast food cashier.

I lived near a nasty girl armory, so i didnt think much of it until it was too late and they already left. They never asked for discounts though, but still.

One guy would come through with no unit patch, name tape, anything.

My favorite was the guy who wore a fucking SOCOM unit patch with a ranger tab instead of airborne.

Again, I was in work mode, so it never clicked until a minute or so later, but by then it was always too late.

Not defending it because it is just autism, but wearing just a uniform isn't stolen valor. It is just an asshat with milsurp
>>
>muh stolen valor

People sperging out on these clowns in nothing less than autism. More often than not these people are simply mentally ill or retarded and spazzing out on them just makes you look like an asshole; especially if you're a pog

Wearing patches, nametape, and rank is.

No one gives a fuck if you're just wearing camo.
>>
>>30107554
I have a problem when they're representing themselves as members of the military. I could care less if they wore the same camo, if you get what im saying.

Daily reminder that dressing up as a member of the military is NOT ILLEGAL.

Please see United States v. Alvarez.

If you sign up to protect the constitution, you protect all of it, including the 1st Amendment. Freedom to dress up as a soldier even if you are not one is a part of what makes america the great country it is. Anything else is censorship.

The only way this guy would be breaking the law is if he was wearing any one of these:
a Medal of Honor (Army, Navy, Air Force)
a Distinguished Service Cross,
a Navy Cross,
an Air Force Cross,
a Silver Star,
a Purple Heart,
a Combat Infantryman's Badge,
a Combat Action Badge,
a Combat Medical Badge,
a Combat Action Ribbon,
a Combat Action Medal

AND, I stress, AND had intent to obtain money, property, or other tangible benefit through pretending to be a recipient of any of those.

Note that a Ranger Tab is not protected. Neither is SOCOM.

>hey never asked for discounts though, but still.
So they did nothing wrong.

Anyone who gives a fuck about stolen valor really should find something more productive to do with their lives.
>>
>>30107756
So you're telling me stolen valor doesn't bother you at all?
>>
>>30107952
is it worth your time to be a dick to some mentally ill individual that you'll likely never see again

dont give them the attention
>>
>>30107952
Not enough to ruin people's lives no.

Its the same shit with guys wearing captured uniforms from other militaries with all that insignia, you think by following that stolen valor logic that we should have them executed for impersonating SS or IJA troops too?

Nope. Not at all. I don't base my identity and my self worth on my job. So when people impersonate my service, I don't take it personally, like some people do. I what do base my identity on, is my behaviour, and my actions.
When it comes to my job, I do my job well. Not because, "That's what a soldier does." but because, "That's what I do."

You see the same behaviour on /v/ when it comes to what consoles people use. Xbox One, PS4, PC 'master race'. People buy into something, weather by signing up for service, or investing time and money into a video game system, and wrap themselves up it. It becomes a part of WHO THEY ARE. Which is just immature. Usually that sort of thinking dies off after they have kids and realize that there are more important things in life.

My point is: It doesn't bother me, because I don't view their behaviour as threatening or insulting, because their behaviour, in relation to me, is INSIGNIFICANT.

What is the worst that is going to happen to you, if someone impersonates a soldier, and does not profit from it? Seriously, show me the harm.

Remember this guy, the legit marine with dementia that got public ally shamed for stolen valor because of the fucks that do it?

This is why it bothers me. They've created this stolen valor meme, and at this point, anyone who willingly takes part in it is just as bad since they know what it does to real veterans.

Look, I know it's tricky, and in some spots i defeat my own argument, but still. My point is it shouldn't be a thing in thd first place, because the people who it do so with ths intention of imitating military personnel, and any freebies that come with it. I doubt they'd say no to those.

Link related to pic related, but doesn't have the part about the guys dementia. Can't find that article.

>>30107952
Are you suggesting that my feelings should trump someone's rights?

Does this sound familiar to you?
>>
>>30108210
The memers act like more attention whoring than the stolen valor guys. but yeah tbqh if they are trying to get benefits like the other anon said with said medals fuck those guys.
>>
>>30108213
Ok maybe you're right in a sense
>>
>>30107995
They're essentially cosplaying and don't expect anyone to believe that they're legit. People who want to get attention by pretending to have served are scum. Not even a vet.
>>
>>30106203

OP here. To top it all off, he had a terrible goatee too. Like fedora-tier.

Now could he have been a veteran digging out his old uniform on memorial day? ...probably not, given his rank screwups. I was leaving Panera and was going somewhere so I didn't want to take the time to confront him or play the "let's compare CAC cards" game.

But I'll say this: he was in Raleigh, NC. Probably not the best state to be imitating the military on Memorial Day weekend, even if it is legal. The timing is what really irritated me.

>So there I was Chris Kyle in line at a McDonalds when all of a sudden I see a fellow special forces sniper ordering the mcflurry. He got the mcflurry and I Chris Kyle turned to him and noticed something was just not right Semper Fi Marine I said but he just looked at me confused. that is when I Chris Kyle drew my 45 acp service 1911 and shot him in the centermass. I walked up to his body as everyone cheered and whispered in his ear and tell them the Greatest Sniper In The World Chris Kyle sent you to hell. The police came and removed the man as I got my food and asked me if I wanted to press charges but I Chris Kyle said no I need to hit the chow. This is my story.
