In most self defense situations, only 1-2 shots are ever fired, so .45 is definitely a good pick. However, actual gunfights aren't one and done. Think less dirty Harry and more diehard. People miss. Alot.

I like .45 a lot more than I like 9mm. It's a big beefy round that has an enjoyable recoil impulse that smacks steel with authority. It's flat out more fun to shoot IMO.
But from a utilitarian point of view 9mm is superior. Higher capacity, lighter recoil, less weight, smaller guns, etc etc ad nauseum. Range pistols are .45. Carry pistols are 9mm. Innawoods/home pistols are 10mm.

More capacity which is nice. I find loading mags to be tedious and boring. I'd rather be shooting. So the longer I can go without loading magazines, the happier I am.
Ammo also tends to be cheaper, which since I mostly shoot for shits and giggles, I find to be quite nice.
I'd say 9mm does have lower recoil on average than .45, which doesn't really matter to me. It does make it more useful for teaching new shooters how to shoot though.

The only subsonic 9mm at Wally World and most LGS are expensive hollowpoints.

Where? I looked at ammo seek and 147 gr 9mm is a minimum of $0.21/round while .45 was less than a penny to about $0.06 more expensive. That isn't far cheaper, a bit cheaper which is nice, but not far cheaper.

They do make airsoft that use brass casings to hold the BB's. Honestly that doesn't look like a SAA to me and in general just looks fucked up. Look at the cylinder, the bullets have some white shit in them which could be BB's. Then the bit under the barrel (not a revolverfag, forgive me) looks fucked up as all hell. I have the new 2015 Ruger Redhawk that uses .45 LG and .45 ACP...despite being large, it weighs less than a fully loaded 9mm double stack and .45 ACP tends to be cheaper than the cowboy bullets and since it was built for .45 LG it practically has no recoil when shooting .45 ACP.
