ITT: Revolvers and their beautiful simplicity. And a normie wanting to learn more.
>>30102648
If it's single action and based on original Colt design, learn how to properly load 5 and keep hammer down on empty chamber.
That simplicity is more of a skewed perception than it is reality.
I'm a whore for flat tops though.especially bisleys
I wish there where more big bore revolvers. Or better yet a revolver in a shotgun caliber
>>30102648
Nothing wrong with a wheel gun.
>>30102648
I could get a 6 inch S&W 686 for about 400€. It´s in great condition, complete with case and extra grips. It´s the "Euro Target" version with an unfluted chamber.
Should I go for it?
>>30103547
>a revolver in a shotgun caliber
Congress decided these were too dangerous.
>>30103430
Why? so you can safely carry it mexican style?
>>30104062
Fuck yes you should. Don't think twice.

Posting revolvers
>>30103537
Hey, anon. What actually is the most non-simple thing in a revolver? I've been dicking around with the idea of machining a simple-as-fuck-but-working revolver one day, so I'm curious about the non-simplicity.
>>30105624
>that S&W finish
Why do I never see any Blackhawks in these threads?
>>30105644
the matte finish on the 625 isn't that great either
anyone know what gun this is or if its real??
I like my cowboy guns.
Marlin 1895GS and a Ruger Super Blackhawk.
Go big or go home.
To be honest, only the older single actions are simple.
>>30105211
>Someone posted my picture
>>30104114
Not that guy, but no. It's so you can prevent accidental discharges due to the hammer being bumped from behind.
The old SAA isn't drop safe.
>>30105864
>revolvers are actually complicated meme
Have any of you ever detail stripped a semiauto? Much more complicated than most common revolvers. Just because you get intimidated when taking off a side plate doesn't mean they are complicated.
>>30105986
I mean, just look at this INCREDIBLY COMPLICATED machine.
>>30106026
By that logic, no pistol is complicated.
double action revolvers are a quite a bit more complicated then single actions however.
I've always wanted a Webbley. What does /k/ think of them?
>>30105986
dude what happened to your nagant?
>>30106162
clearly just a new barrel with threads for a suppressor.
>>30106075
Sorry, I also meant to include
>>30103537
Revolvers aren't any more complicated than semiautos, and oftentimes they are less. Actually take a second to look at the guts of that 686. Not a whole lot of parts if you don't count the pins. Hell, you could probably reassemble one just from decent knowledge on how a revolver works. All the parts are pretty large and obvious.
Semiautos on the other hand tend to have more parts, and more moving parts. Take this Glock, which is considered fairly simple. Same thing, discount pins.
>>30106210
Also keep in mind this is without trigger pack disassembly. That adds a few more parts to the mix.
>>30106210
Thats fine if you consider more parts to equal more complexity over fewer parts doing more things.
I don't think revolvers are complicated, but any time someone tries to make them sound vastly simpler than an auto which can be very simple like a single action blow back it seems disingenuous.
The same applies to the usage of the gun itself. Both have nuances unique to their operation.
wheely fun
>>30107122
I suppose m8. I still declare revolvers to be simpler even in that regard on account of them being a manual action as opposed to blowback/delayed blowback.
Should I get a Redhawk or a 629 for my first wheelgun?
Get a vaquero to feel like a cowboy op. Or just get a regular new model blackhawk and you won't have to worry about loading 5.
>>30109024
Get a Redhawk. They are gods gift
>>30105666
Because /k/ is northeast faggots who don't ever rely modern day practical gun use
>>30104006
Nice Detective special. How you liking it so far? Just got one myself, not in as good of shape as yours.
>>30105666
I remember a few anons a few months back posting them, one was a super blackhawk, both said it was the best gun they ever shot.
>>30105211
I really like that knife, no bullshit, just pure knife.
are taurus revolvers ok?

>>30109356

>>30109024
I say either one, oddly seen a bunch of 8 1/2 inch model 29's being listed for around 700-899 on mulitble places.

>>30109365
Goddamn that's nice. I wish my boring family left me something like that.
are there any cool revolvers in 10mm Auto?
I just picked up a Model 29-5 for $700, does anyone want pics?
>>30109356
>>30109365
What year is it, mine is a 1970,72, the sight came off mine the other day, need too clean the rust that was under it and either JB weld it or take it too a smith.(would rust inhibitor be bad too use on a gun, would it fuck with the finish?)

1934 I think. His father gave it to him.
>>30109732
I had a gp100 before, shit was a tank. The trigger was meh for a revolver but it was my first and I remember thinking it was sex. I kinda want another just for the nostalgia
>>30109577
I like it, personally I'm more keen to a model 29 but who isn't.
Still it's a .44 mag and they're fun.
>>30105381
The whole firing mechanism is pretty complex. Getting the trigger to release the hammer, getting the cylinder to spin properly, there's a lot of shit inside of a revolver needed to make it work.
>>30109749
You may want to look for a match champ version, IMO the trigger is fantastic. Almost no creep and a very clean break, lighter pull than my dads RedHawk.
I was hesitant of Gp100's for the same reason (trigger) but for $650 I decided to take a chance, pretty pleased with it.
>used it to kill a raccoon attacking m /k/itty in middle of night
>performed admirably, saved /k/itty
>>30102648
I finally got to shoot my buddy's Anaconda today. First showed it to me several months ago and we finally got him to the range today. The action on that thing is smooth as silk. Hearing the action sounds like a fine piece of precision machinery at work.
I have a problem. I need one now.
>>30109789
Thanks for the tip man, ill look into it. I've had a few revolvers in the past, but I just have my 29-5 now and I'm looking to expand
>>30109813
That reminds me that I need to get a snake gun. The fucking actions are smooth as glass
>>30109832
You own any other Colt's before? Even a cheap detective special or Agent works and feels amazing, phenomenal action. If you want a great Colt gun but don't wanna spend 2 grand get a Trooper MK III.
>>30109853
No I haven't actually owned one. Friends dad has a Python that I get to shoot occasionally. I might check out a detective special because I have a hankering for a snubbie to use as a glovebox gun
>>30105381
Cocking the hammer moves the cylinder into the correct position and locks it in place.
If the timing or movement of that sequence is off, your gun is going to be all fucked up.
A semi-auto is much simpler in design once you figure out how strong all of the springs need to be.
>>30109868
I say go for it, ever owned another revolver before? One I would highly recommend is a S&W model 13. Shoots .357 like a breeze because of the slightly thicker barrel then it's model 19/66 counterpart.
>>30109937
I've had a gp100, model 29 and a garbage heap snubbie. I can't find a detective special near me, closest I can find is a miroku detective special clone. Are these at all comparable?
>>30109960
Never had a Ruger before(but want a SP 101 badly and one of their SA wheelguns) I say look online, try gunsamercia, armslist and broker. I would rike too find a Miroku revolver.
After the two Smiths I've owned the Colt is very different, not sure if better but it feels right, like it was meant for me.
What was the garbage snubby you had?
>>30110006
I don't even remember the brand or serial number. It was some kind of smith and Wesson snubbie ripoff. Assuming I can get it for a decent price, is the miroku a suitable stand-in for a detective special?
>>30110029
*Brand or model number
>>30109684
Really that's what I like about them, I like just pressing in a button instead of uncomfortably sliding something
Should I buy a ruger vaquero in .357 or .45(would could you buy the switchable cylinder for both?)
>big iron on his hip
>>30110561
>One takes a .357" barrel
>The other takes a .45" barrel.
>"Could I just switch the cylinder?"
Go with the .357 if you don't want to be poor, or the .45 colt if you don't want to be a faggot.
>>30109613
wll the movie is "The King of Comedy" by Scorsese. but sadly it dosent exist in the IMFDB :/
>>30105666
I bought a single six as my first handgun. I started shooting pistol just because I wanted that one. Can only shoot standard with it because it's really too slow for field I really want the 6.5" blackhawk because it takes the same grips and I figure I'll get more out of practice if my magnum is as similar to the .22 as possible. Now my shooting instructor tells me that I'd need a DA for the kinds of competitions we have in the club. He couldn't tell me why because they all fire them in SA anyway. I know it's possible to get a license for SA magnum, but I don't know how to motivate it if I can't find competitions for it. (Sweden, shitty laws, can only own a handgun that fits in a competition discipline).
I guess I would be better off with a S&W 686 but I just love the single actions. They are elegant and fun as hell. Don't even know if I'll ever buy a semi. Pic related, it's my baby with her new Hogue grips. Hope I can work my way around the rules so I get to buy a blackhawk.
I DEMAND THIS THREAD TO LIVE
What are some fun revolvers for under $500? I'm partial to snubbies and want to start collecting
>>30109331
It's good, nice weight and six shots, I see you went with the unshrouded, I like that look over the post 72's.
>>30109732
>>30109789
I was actually looking at getting a Match Champion for my first pistol ever. It seemed pretty damn nice when I was testing it at the store, but I do also like the look and feel of the normal GP100. I kinda like the rubber grip better too. Is the trigger really that much worse? Would it be too costly to get it fixed to make it comparable?
Whats the point of birdshead grip on revolvers? Theyre already one hand carryable? Does that grip make ot like easier to do the cowboy spinny thing out of the holster?
>>30114279
Birds head grips have always been put on cutdown or smaller pistols and revolvers.
It doesn't help the matter that they look sexy as fuck.
Meme revolver but still nice as fuck
Mateba Sei Unica
>>30113952
I looked the the serial on mine, it was a 71. I do like the unshorouded look better, also didn't see any shrouded ones for sell.
>>30113849
S&W model 10, can also find the 2 inch model for around that price maybe. Can get the normal bull barrel and pencil barrel for around 200-400, especially the police trade in's at a few places, like buds and I think southern Ohio guns(could be wrong on the second one)
Charter arms(would recommend the Bulldog in .44 special, can find some older ones in .357, but get either a older bulldog or their new "classic" bulldog 44)
Sometimes you can find Ruger SP 101's for around 480-490ish, check grab a gun(they have like three listings for new 3 inch models, one is like 490)
Used Rugers, seeing a lot of Security Sixes and Black/RedHawks go for around 450-500 on places like gunamerica/armslist.
Sometimes can find Colt Agents(lighter aluminum alloy models of the Detective special) go from 450-600
Sometimes you can find some J frames S&W's for around 4-500, you can get the model 442/642/636 new in the 400's. But I say look around for a model 36 or 37( aluminum) sometimes you can find ones, even in somewhat good shape for 450-500.
I see a few S&W's model 65's going for 450 at a few places, own a model 13, the non stainless model of that gun, and it's fucking lovely, payed 540 for mine, damn near new.
The model 13/65 is a amazing gun, K-frame .357 magnum, like these better then the 19/66 better other then the fixed sight because it has a slightly thicker barrel and can shoot .357 good bit better, shoots .38 special like .22.
For single action, other then a used Ruger, you can get a Cattlemen SSA copy for in the 400's and the Hombre from the same company even cheaper.
This is my great grandfather's Colt New Service 44 Russian/SW. Made in 1922. He supposedly pistol wipped a drunk idiot trying to fight his son in law in Honduras with it and so one of the grips has a crack. Still shoots great. Also had a crocodile skinned holster for it.
is the heritage rough rider 22 a good first revolver? my lgs has one for $180

Hey guys, is a revolver a bad weapon weapon for self defense? Never owned a gun before and was just wondering.
>>30118634
Not having a gun is a bad weapon for self defense. Whatever gun you get will be better than no gun as long as it works. Get what you feel like as long as it's in your budget and it's what you want.
>>30115450
Niiiiice.
>>30118724
You can only hold like 5 bullets and toy can't spray as fast as semi or a fully automatic gun. Would I really be putting myself at a disadvantage for owning a revolver?
>>30118811
No hammer to get caught in clothing, no slide to get caught in clothing, no safety to mess with, if the round doesn't go off all you have to do is pull the trigger again, and can't stove pipe or jam as often as an automatic does
>>30118570
> No trigger Guard

But mine don't jam at all. Is there a way to jam less than zero?
Should I get a Uberi, Ruger or some other single action revolver? Should I try out one of those cheap heritage rough rider .22 ones first too see if I would like a SAO revolver?
>>30121315
Heritage has mixed results. They tend to blow up the back straps in their. 22 mag models. I'd get a ruler single six if you want a .22. Otherwise a Blackhawk. Stay away from rossi, uberti is good.
