/k/, what's the best plate carrier out now? I'm tempted to buy a LBT 6094 during their Memorial Day sale ($299) but I hear that carriers with swift clips are the new hotness. Velocity Systems Scarab Light seems like the best of the bunch. What do you say?

Does /k/ have any experience with Tyr carriers?
>>
>>30100933
They're good, probably on par with first spear and Crye, but Crye carriers are kind of different.

The Tyr carriers are expensive for what they are, it's mostly their mesh gimmick that commands so much, in general they are surprisingly un-modular and basic. Honestly a Mayflower APC will provide about as much utility as a Tyr PICO with less 'cush'
>>
LBT 6094s are really not that spectacular. If you've never had a "nice" plate carrier before, I imagine an LBT would satisfy you, but as you go up the list of expensive gucci shit 6094s quickly become on par with shit surplus carriers like MBAVs and SPCs.

I laugh on the inside when wannabe richfags on /k/ talk about how great their LBTs are hehe
>>
>>30100925
>>30100908

Cryes CAGE armor chassis is better.
>>
If you really want a 6094 there's a bunch of surplus new marshal versions on ebay.
>>
>>30100961

Also almost costs 2 grand. I'm all for buying quality kit but that is way outside the price range of any enlisted soldier.
>>
Is this pretty basic for $210?

Swift clips is kinda cool, but only if you intend to use it. I set my stt up for it, ended up spending like $60 just so I could get two extra columns of molle up front. Don't know if it was worth it. Doesn't really feel like it.

>>30100933
I like my tyr gunfighter belt, and my Ifak pouch. But tyr stuff can get expensive fast

>>30101026
It's a good plate carrier without much in the way of "features". It holds plates, and you can put pouches on there. It's a good choice
>>
>>30100948
What other plate carriers would be considered Gucci shit besides the two Crye plate carriers? Everything else, from LBT to First Spear to Mayflower to PIG, runs around the same price ($250-500).

Any sewing machine that can handle any significant quantity of Cordura costs more than a mid-tier PC used, or a high-tier PC plus ceramics new.

It's alright. The QD cummerbund is eh and I'm considering selling it and getting one of those USMS overruns but I'm not a fan of ranger green. The stitching was pretty embarrassing but nothing 5 minutes with a lighter couldn't fix.
>>
>>30102618
First Spear Strandhogg and associated designs, Tyr Pico, CPC, AVS, possibly the BFG Plate Carrier, it doesn't get a lot of attention, but it's nice.

Honestly there really aren't any more than those.
>>
>>30100771
I wear a coyote brown IBA vest that is two sizes too small because I picked up the carrier, soft armor, front and back SAPI plates, and a tourniquet for forty bucks. I'll probably sell it to buy a properly sized one (it's a small and I'm 6'1" 185lbs), but I'm scouring this thread for a better option.
>>
>>30105780
VS Scarab is pretty gucci.
>>
>>30106830
>First Spear Strandhogg

Will the VS Scarab work with the Blue Force Gear RACKminus? And will it be secure?

I'd like to set up the RACKminus with everything so I don't need to buy double of all my pouches when I don't have a need for a plate carrier.
>>
>>30107645
not 100% on whether it'll work. Even if the clips are the right spacing, without velcro backing on the rackminus, you'll have to get side buckle attachments as well. I dunno if you already have the rackminus but I would really recommend a mayflower chest rig setup
>>

>>
>>30103289

>>
>>30105149

>>30105149

The cummerbund is the weak point of a Banshee to me. If I had another Banshee and dug it's fit and size, I'd slap the PIG cummerbund on for $70 or if I wanted to spend any more, a First Spear Tube cummerbund and have a rig that's as good as anything twice it's price.
>>
>>30108331
Because the crossdressers on here are fucking gross
>>
>>30108644
I agree. The QD cummerbund is great in concept, it just has a tendency to "sag" a bit if you put something even as light as a ITW fast mag onto it. I'm excited to see this new banshee they have coming out; the cumberbund may address some of our issues and hopefully it's backwards compatible with the older ones

The best armor carrier that is was or ever will be is simply called... EAGLE CIRAS.

They have always been an endangered species and there's only one online dealer that sells them. You can only buy bulk from factory. Each one is around 650 usd in OCP and since it's discontinued. stock is going to dry up. They no longer carry ocp in medium for any models...

This is not a plate carrier this is an lightweight armor carrier designed to be better to an IOTV in every way sort of like a gen 3.5 IOTV it weighs around 7 lbs with soft inserts inside assuming you bought the thinnest lightest and best ones with credentials... Its a thoroughbred carrier since its genes are derived from the IOTV style quick release system. If you manage to buy one you will have to assemble it all yourself they do not come pre assembled.

SNIPER V on youtube is your best friend for assembly. Thank god he posted a tutorial because the one that comes with the carrier SUCKED.
>>
>>30111791
Please nigga, nobody who isn't issued one wears a fucking CIRAS anymore. Unless it's for airsoft. Also the First Spear Siege-R seems to be a better design anyway.
>>
firstspear is an excellent company there ecp packs are great. But I don't like the quick release system it has. Nor do I like that it does not come with shoulder ballistic inserts. ALSO BALCS... in the siege R are different cut just for that carrier...
>>
>>30112631
Pretty sure the Siege-R takes standard BALCS soft armor...
>>
>>30111801
>very limited access
>must be bought in bulk
>$650 each
>must put together yourself

So if you take away the hard to get factor and it was widely avaliable to the public. Other than Eagle being issued to the troops, how does this carrier stack up to others in the $500+ range?
>>
>>30112797
With or without Quick Release?

I have the 6094 RS and I like it. if you use it in combination with their chassis system it holds weight pretty good with the belt to put all the weight on your hips. which doesn't fuck your back up as much
>>
>>30112899
6094 rs is a good setup and you're using the esstac mag pouches etc. Also I use a Ronin tactics belt that holds my 1st line 1 liter hydration bladder and other various things such as suspenders to not mess my back up wearing my lvl 4 SAPI plates...
>>
>>30102889
Modding is where it's at! Hell man tactical tailor uses senior citizens to make pouches because they can sew worth a damn lol.
Also you can make a good profit with that skill set in active duty sewing people's stuff making a few hundred dollars on the down low per month. good times...

I like it a lot, actually. It seems pretty solidly built. The front kangaroo pouch is sized for mags ranging from 5.56 M16 mags to AK or FAL mags. I recommend adding single mag carriers to the side. Doubles stick out too far. The back of the carrier fits a TAG hydration bladder holder prefectly and there is webbing on the straps to run it through along with a radio wire. I have AR500 plates and got the medium size carrier. They fit like a glove.
>>
>>30100771
I have the Mayflower APC Plate Carrier. i love it and they make inserts for the kangaroo pouch for mags so you don't need to put a bunch of mag holders on the front. it will hold a total of 9 mags without having to add a single pouch on to it.

Bought this fag industries airshit contraption(patent pending) to go play soldier in the ACF. Kept it around and I'M debating selling it. Pretty sturdy for something that was £30 and has plate pouches inside that feel solid. Should I keep it or just keep the pouches and buy either A: a real plate carrier or B: a battle belt since I'm poor?
>>
Can anyone in this thread recommend an armor carrier? Rifle plates are a necessity of course but I'm also interested in soft armor coverage.

Something quick to don and something that provides more coverage than a plate carrier, would be awesome.

I'll never not love Crye and their designs. Everything just works so well from both a functionality and aesthetic standpoint that I'm willing to deal with the gucci price tags for the most part.

Wore a JPC for part of my time in the army before getting transferred to a recce bit and ditching armor for the most part, and the JPC was literally light years beyond anything I saw getting issued.

Just wished they would sell those fucking slick carriers I see MARSOC wearing... I know First Spear sells a variant that Crye helped design but I have zero experience with FS stuff.

I never got the huge boner for LBT gear outside of the "muh' nsw" airsoft crowd. Nothing they have on offer seems particularly impressive, especially for the prices they ask.

Maybe I have to try it in person?

>>30121402
What mag pouch on the left?>>30121389
Those MARSOC carriers are called LV-MBAV's, if you're curious. They pop up on ebay every once in a while, but since they're not publicly available the price is usually a few grand. I can definitely recommend first spear as high quality, though.
>>
>>30121438
They're just really well built, I think. Nothing mindblowing in terms of modularity like Crye.
>>
I've got a US Palm ASP-C plate carrier with hybrid (ceramic sandwiched between steel) level IV plates, in ranger green.

I also have a British Osprey MkIV in MTP on order, which I will transfer the plates to once it arrives tomorrow. Anybody know where I can get the kevlar inserts for it?
>>
>>30120758
yes, you must spend money where it is needed and get the best bang for your buck where you can, anon
>>
>>30121460
Mag pouch looks like a Blue Force 2x556 one. I ran two on my JPC and they're pretty quality. The super thin attachment is great especially with Crye style cummerbunds.

I actually emailed Crye about whether they would ever publicly sell those LV vests and got a pretty flat no from them. I was between that or a Mayflower for a scaleable slick vest.
