Why didn't the 10mm catch on? It's the perfect balance between 9mm and 45acp. 10mm handguns have plenty of room for a large magazine and 10mm packs a punch. (Not to mention the sweet BOOM sound it makes when firing)

Why did the 10mm fail,/k/?

Honestly with the muzzle energy and retention it is closer to a balance between 9mm and 357 mag, I just put a RMR on my new Glock 40 MOS, speaking of I am looking for some kind of lens protector or cover for my dual illumination RMR, I tried the killflash they sell but it is too hard to make out what you are aiming at indoors for me with that, not enough light gets through.

10mm Auto is clearly the best all-around handgun cartridge but as another anon mentioned up-thread, women and fags can’t handle the recoil of original full-power loads, so the .40 S&W was developed, as it fit 9mm frame pistols and had the same bullet weight and velocity of down-loaded 10mm Auto loads, which most factory loads are because, again, women and fags.
>>
>>30098653
.40S&W is a shitty, abortion of a cartridge
>>
Power is unneccesary most of the time. Unless you plan on facing off a bear a 9mm is a safer bet
>>
No one got an argument saying how the 10mm manages to have a higher PSI rating than both the .45 and 9mm? That guns chambered in them have a shorter lifespan than other guns chambered in other calibres? I love the 10mm but it seems as if to get the best out of it you need to shell out the money for a beast gun. Or else your gun will die after less than 1k rounds if using too much hot loads.

>>30097819
The FBI traditionally preferred .357 Magnum revolvers for.field agents, but followed the trend of U.S. law enforcement and began transitioning to.double stack 9mm handguns.

In the wake of the 1986 Miami shootout, the FBI decided to transition to a more powerful handgun caliber. Traditionalists preferred a replacement for the venerable .357 Magnum, which in the hands of agents like Jelly Bryce was a proven performer. (This likely had as much to do with Agent Bryce's lethality as a gunman as the cartridge itself)

10mm fit the bill, with the ability to.be used in a large frame double stacked handgun and ballistic performance nearly identical to .357 Magnum, it seemed a perfect fit.

Except that the new crop.of agents who had not been brought up on .357 Magnum couldn't handle the recoil of the round. At first a download 10mm was tried, but ultimately a compromise cartridge, .40S&W was adopted instead leaving 10mm an orphaned cartridge under adopted by law enforcement.

Orientate me to your thought process. How did you arrive at the conclusion that the only difference between 9mm Luger and .40 S&W is the diameter. What references did you look up and how lojg did you spend researching the topic before deciding that you were an expert about it?
>>
>>30099797
There is no proof temporary stretch cavities out of intermediate handgun calibers cause any damage.

What we do know is that permanent cavities in flesh cause effective wounds.

The difference in permanent cavity volume between modern 9mm and .40 caliber hollow points is negligible.

>shot placement
>penetration.
>>
>>30099824
I have no idea what you think you're proving with all this jabbering about wound cavity size when you know it has no bearing on the topic. Heavier bullets excel at one thing, barrier penetration. That's kind of important if you want the bullet to retain any velocity after crushing bones. For example, after breaking the rib cage or hitting the spine, you want the bullet to have enough velocity to tear apart the heart or break the CNS.

inb4
>what is momentum, i don't understand
Google it, motherfucker. I spent hours explaining it in the thread yesterday but there's always the one fag who pretends to not understand just to be a dick.
>>
>>30099864
Velocity and sectional density has more a part to play in penetration than sheer bullet weight.

There's a reason why rounds such as .45 penetrate so poorly.

and fyi 147gr 9mm has higher sectional density and velocity than 180 gr .40 s&w

As far as momentum, why would I need the round to retain energy -after- it's left an attacker's body?
>>
1. Dornhaus&Dixon failed to get the Bren Ten to market. Miami Vice could have been to 10 mm what Dirty Harry was to .44 mag: countless people were willing to buy it just because it's cool.
2. FBI switched to .40 S&W rather than demanding smaller, lighter guns suitable for weak loaded 10 mm. every .40 sold could have been a lesser 10 mm, which would still benefit proper 10 mm because of scale effects.

for how badly it started, 10 mm isn't doing half bad.

only because it is literally a neutered 10mm and is more popular. If the FBI had adopted 10mm it would be more common and thus cheaper.
>>
>>30097895
after the Miami bank robbery the Feebs realized they needed a bigger round, so they had S&W design a pistol in 10mm. They started to issue it, but females couldn't handle it, so thye asked for a compromise and we got the S&W .40
