Is the longbow a meme weapon?
>>
>>30096317
Today it is.
>>
Someone post that story about King Henry and his bowman that had bows with 125 pound draw weights that physically deformed the mens arms from how alpha they were
>>
It's vastly overrated, especially by people who don't understand battles like Agincourt. The terrain made more of a difference than the fact they were using longbows instead of crossbows.
>>
>>30096317

Contextually, yes.

For example, when people say "hurr why did they just use bows instead of muskets??"
It becomes a meme of reckoning.
>>
>>30096317
As opposed to what, a naturally occurring geological structure?
>>
>>30096328
not to the degree a crossbow is
>>
>>30096317
if you want one, get one. take it out and shoot it often. dont let what traps and furries post on a hmong cave rune board influence you.
>>
Disliking weapons because they may be memes is just a meme.
A long bow is a good weapon, it works, it has being historically proven, that's all I care about

Can't even pierce plate, barely even chainmail.muh superior longbow
>>
>>30096474
Your amusing. You can stay. Stay in the trash that is.
>>
>>30096317

Kind of. A lot of people outside of archery don't really get that a bow is a bow - i.e. the English longbow is a yew self bow with 100+ # of draw weight. Being long does nothing to make it a spectacular weapon, that's just engineering. A reflexed composite bow of the same draw weight is probably going to shoot an arrow of the same weight slightly faster, but on a battlefield scale that's probably not a big deal.

>>30096491

Agreed. I shoot a compound and a trad recurve. Something primitive seems like fun/the logical next step.

Longbows are meme weapons.

Chinese Manchu bows are weapons for real men:

230 punds plus average.
>>
>>30096435
Don't forget the sheer volume of bowmen

Sure, that many crossbows would've been just as good, but they couldn't field them.
>>
>>30096509
Put enough in the air and they'll start finding gaps.

longbow>Recurve>compound>cross

this is a fact

In the Hundred Years' War period crossbows were the weapon of choice for most armies. Less range than a longbow, but easier to shoot and better penetration if they hit. At Crecy had the Genoese actually had their pavises the battle would've been very different, as the English couldn't have completely routed their firing lines.

it's only way to achieve composite bow draw weight
in humid climate
>>
>>30099902
What are you trying to say?
>>
>>30099932
traditional animal glue used in composite bows loses strenght if exposed to rain
>>
>>30098288
If you're a pleb larper faggot.
That exact opposite order of how someone should approach archery.
>>
I'm willing to bet that a lot of people hate it simply because it sometimes has the word 'English' in front of it.
>>
>>30096509
Well what about the other 90% of the army who don't have plat?

It's a good weapon. Cheap, light, enough power to penetrate up to mail+gambison, which was the most common armour type of its age.
This is a very good analysis of why it wasn't as widespread as the crossbow.

Depends. But not really. Personally, I don't like lugging two-metre stick around, it gets stuck in places and is kinda fragile compared to other kill-the-other-dude two metre sticks, like spears, even if it is fuckin' bananas and when shot and slices skin off my forearm when I shoot it wrong. I prefer a bit shorter, lighter bows. Say, a foot shorter and around 70lbs is a nice thing. I'd say that a longbow would get stuck at places when hunting, but looks cool as fuck.
>>
>>30096317
No, but you are a meme tool.

>230 punds plus average.

Nothing in that article supports that as the average
>>
>>30098447
Only qualm is accuracy for recurve and lbo are about the same in my experience
Everything else is accurate
