not sure how that happened, but look at any other Ak derivative manufactured by Valmet (except M78), they all have dustcover -mounted rear sight and gas block -mounted front sight, so calling your sights 'normal' when talking about Valmets is wrong.

I did some research after I bought it. From what I remember the m71 was made for commercial export only, and the thinking was that it'd be more appealing to those wanting something similar to an ak.
