We've never had a gun law, or anything that resembles a self-defence law. All firearms, airguns, airsoft guns, explosives, maces/pepper sprays, tasers, balisongs and other tools that resembles a weapon or firearm (yes, that includes toys. Except Nerf guns) are outright banned. Get caught with them? either ya get confiscated and fined (if toys and weak stuff) or jail time (if firearms and machetes)
At least we don't restrict our knife purchases to over 18 though. And carrying a pocket knife as a "tool" is okay.
If you really want to shoot guns, I heard you can go to the old Cu Chi Tunnels (now a major tourist trap) for 15$/10 rounds of AK. Alternatively, pay 100++$/1 practice session at the skeet shooting club (registration required.)
Personally, The embargo lift will only benefits the military, since we get surplus stuff from the US while they get some dosh and maybe a major deep water port in the SCS region.
