Could you become reasonably accurate with a front sight only rifle through a lot of training?
>>
If you were well-practiced and always put your nose on the charging handle you should be able to hit consistently inside 25m and have probably a 1 in 3 chance of hitting a man-sized target at 100m with deliberate aim.
>>
>>30080665
God, why the fuck do people chicken wing. Just fucking why.
>>
>>30080665
well, if you flap that chicken wing hard enough, you might go airborne. Who knows?
>>
>>30080695
Because it was a popular way to shoot sporting rifles with the long length of pull popular in North America.
>>
You can learn to do anything with enough practice.

There are dudes that can hipfire more accurate then half the dudes on here.
>>
>>30080695
>this shit again
Daily reminder that chicken wing is as perfectly fine stance and is the preferable one when doing offhand target shooting.

>b-buh muh military stances
Literally only exist because of body armor. If you're not being shot at, chicken wing is a far more stable stance.

That's because they're fucking cyborgs, I just need a little more evidence to expose them!
>>
>>30080695
It's the way I was taught to shoot. I find that chicken winging is more comfortable and accurate for a straight stocked rifle, but its less comfortable and strong of a grip for something with a pistol grip like an ar. Chicken winging when you've been lifting allows you to hold the entire weight of the rifle in your trigger hand, so your support hand doesn't tire since its just there to steady the muzzle, making you 1 inch at 50 offhand standing with a along and irons no problem. Also I find it comfortable and familiar so there's that. Threw off my aim with an svd so I guess it really doesn't work with a thumb hole so ymmv
>>
I had a pellet rifle when I was a kid and the rear sight broke off; I could still hit rabbits and shit easily with it.
>>
>>30080665
It doesn't take "training", i picked up the .22 rifle i learned on when i was visiting my dad once and shot a milk jug on a trotline in a river so far away i couldn't even use the rear site from muzzle elevation
>>
>>30082640
Do you even lift bro?

In all seriousness I have no trouble supporting a rifle with one hand in a more modern stance. Even a nugget.

No your post is right ignore responses
>>
>>30080695
well, his adjustable stock is in the completely collapsed all the way forward position.
so thats a cramped, short length of pull and shitty cheek weld with no sights stance.

its basically FUBAR
>>
I'm pretty accurate with a bead sight and slugs on a shotgun, I don't see why it's a huge problem if you hold the rifle correctly.

There was a shooting at LAX a while back and the shooter didn't flip up his rear sight. I forget his kill count.

>Needlessly sticking your arm out

Yeah man, why would you tuck your arm against your torso to decrease bodies outline when you can just fling your elbow outwards for fuck all reasons and increase your chances of being hit.
>>
I sniped an Iraqi 2 baseball fields away with no sights

This was also during a time where using two hands on a handgun was unheard of.

1 tsa agent
>>
>>30083197
And nothing of value was lost.
>>
It's actually better you get faster target acquisition leading to more lead on target in a shorter amount of time. Studies show accuracy doesn't matter in 99% of combat scenarios.
>>
>>30083197
>1 tsa agent
then it's not like the gunman could have missed...
>>
>>30083159
You literally just restated his point, faggot.

There's a reason they're called handguns and not handsguns.

>>
>>30083070
Sure and I can too, but I'm talking about supporting the weight with just your trigger, not support hand, especially with something long or front heavy like a Krag or gew98. It's a bit harder to push it up with the trigger hand and not wobble than it is to pull it up as with a chicken wing, where I can keep the sights on a man sized target at 100 without the forward hand for an extended period of time

No
>>
>>30080665

You'd be more accurate if you didn't even try to use the front sight at that point. Instinctively aiming would provide better results because the front sight would provide a lot of false information to you.
>>
>>30080695
Try it next time you're using a front heavy rifle with a conventional stock. You should be able to hold the rifle against your shoulder with only your right hand if you're doing it correctly. Once you try this once, you'll stop questioning chicken winging.
>>
>>30083242
Ha
>>
>>30080695
It's actually pretty good for target shooting.
>>
>>30080695
They probably don't know they're even doing it. I didn't until Drill Sergeant gave me a talk about it.

See Rex Applegate's treatise on point shooting in the "Kill or Get Killed" book, Chapter 5, page 97; but stop before you get to page 137, "Two-Handed Grip."
>>
>>30080665
Works for shotguns dont it? maybe for 100 yds and under
>>
>>30080695
Because you were trained for short / medium range urban warfare, and did lots of pushups to break you of the instruction you got from Dad and Uncles prior to OSUT?
>>

Unless your in combat i dont see a problem

maybe in cqb
>>
>>30080665
You can be accurate with anything if you use it enough.
I can put a slug through a deer's heart at 30yds with my smooth bore Ithaca 20ga Super Single with only a front bead sight.
Can hit a "man sized" target at 100yds too. No real specific shot placement there though.
>>
>>30080695
It's the natural pose. You would only put your elbow down if you've been told to.
>>
>>30080665
Yes. Just look at early rifles. People used to hunt and kill animals out at least 100 yards with only front sights. It isn't easy but it is possible.

I said when you're NOT getting shot at, you dumb mother fucker.
>>
>>30090364
Um no. Early rifles were still well within the timeline where there were front and rear sights.

I was test firing an AR15 build once before the rear sight had arrived. It's actually surprisingly easy to shoot fairly consistently at short ranges using only the front sight post and keeping a consistent cheek weld.
>>
I usually teach new shooters to shoot with a chicken wing because:

A) They aren't getting shot at
B) They're not wearing armor
C) It's comfortable for them.

Besides, if you're in a real firefight and you're worried about how you're holding your weapon, your priorities are all fucked up.

Look up quick kill training.

Can they compare since the front sight on an ar15 is seated so much higher than the muzzle?

Whatever makes you comfortable. This is your daily reminder that you are not a soldier who has to worry about increasing their silhouette during a combat situation when you are out target shooting. Not to mention that chicken-winging was once taught as a perfectly viable form of shouldering a rifle by the military.
