well whatever it is, it's not gonna be a firearm, i don't want to rely on ammo for my survival in a society that has collapsed.
also they're loud and attract a lot of zombies.
so ranged weaponry would probably be a bow and arrow, one not too big and heavy to draw.
i'd mostly rely on close combat and stealth though.
something big and sturdy but not too heavy to carry around, like a fireaxe or a crowbar. either of those also have uses outside of combat, you're not gonna be fighting zombies 24/7 you know, you also gotta survive, gather food, find (or make) a shelter.
though i do admit i really like the idea of fighting a horde of zombies in full plate with a halbert.
so that's my two cents on zombie apocalypse survival.

Because arrows are fucking everywhere, right? Ammo you can find all over the damn country, arrows less so. Go into a sporting good store, right now, and count the number of boxes of .308 on the shelf, then count the number of arrowheads.
Also, weigh one arrow, then weigh one .308. You have to carry it with you, remember.
And let's not forget that to kill a zombie you have to destroy the brain. Good luck penetrating the skull with an arrow, especially when you want one:

Also, arrows are designed to sever blood vessels (that's why they have blades on them) not create massive blunt-force trauma like bullets, which makes them much worse at killing a zombie: severing their blood vessels does nothing, you NEED blunt-force trauma to the brain.
And you'll, what, be making your own arrows? What are you using for the heads? You need quality fucking arrowheads if you need then to crack a human skull, so what's the plan? Or maybe you think you're going to recover the arrows you've already fired? But that would mean you'd have to CLEAR OUT any crowd of zombies you've fired arrows at. Sure, sometimes you might be able to recover your arrows but most of the time it isn't practical. Plus it means you'll have to fig around inside of zombie-skulls for your arrow heads, getting your hands covered in zombie gore while worming your fingers around shards of broken bone. Sounds like a great fucking way to get yourself infected.

Probably a hammer or crowbar.
It has functional use, makes less noise than a gun, I'll never run out of ammo and is much easier to conceal than a rifle or shotgun in the event so I won't seem like a threat or valuable target to nearby survivors.
If someone with a pistol see's me carrying a shotty with ammo to spare, he'll shoot me from behind and take my gun, but if he sees me "unarmed" he'll probably try to use me as bait or something instead of taking the stuff he doesn't know I have.
