Should I buy a T-72? I did my research and found that refurbishment+shipping would make the total cost about a hundred-grand.

Beats buying a sports car.

OP here. My main concern is maintenance of the vehicle. Anyone have any idea how much man-hours I will be putting in? Also, how difficult upkeep would be?
>>
>>30080043
You really need to know what you're doing if you're considering to buy this. I'm not an expert, but I do know for a fact that these things eat up fuel like crazy. Investing in a UAZ-469 is daring enough, imagine how much this'll cost in terms of fuel and spare parts. Speaking of which, maintenance would be my main concern. You've got to know what you're doing, and you need to find a reputable retailer that can supply you with spare parts. I'm not going to tell you what to do with your own money, that is after all your choice, but you have to know the ins and outs of the vehicle beforehand. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice.

The T-72 is quite sound when it comes to its automotive qualities. Spare parts shouldn't be too difficult since these things are prolific. Not sure what the fuel consumption is though.

Sure as hell beats a sports car.

At this point you could probably buy an old russian army slave trained in maintaining these pieces of shit.

Just give your Ivan a 1999 computer with counterstrike installed and that should be enough payment for him. Just make sure to give your russian enough vodka and potatoes everyday. If you forget to feed him you'll stress him out and have to pry him out of his corner squat and you do not want to deal with your russian while he's squatting.
>>
>>30080043
Ship it to the nearest Russian tank factory

They'd probably know what to do with it

I would love to own a tank

>FUEL CONSUMPTION: 450 L / 100 KM (600 IN THE WINTER)
>>
>>30079856
Honestly thinking of doing this when my stocks vest. Fuck having kids.
>>
>>30080043
You ever hear the phrase "it's built like a tank"? You'll be fine
>>
>>30082616
Came to post this. It's not an everyday vehicle. (Though that would be breddy epic) if shtf you'll be more then prepaired. Plus....ugh....even if it's immobile it's bullet proof for 99.9% of the shit out there.
I keep alum n fe3 in my inv just incase the happening presents itself and I need to remove an armoured threat, foreign or domestic
>>
>>30082432
So, this yields ~.22222 (repeating, of course) KM/Liters, which is ~.522 MPG, not in the winter.

For Winter mileage, it would be ~.166666 (again, repeating) km/liter, or ~.392 mpg.

100km is ~62.13 miles, and 450 liters is 118 gallons, while 600 liters is ~158 gallons. Assuming it takes diesel, which is presently going for an average of $2.30, it would cost you $271.40 to fill up.
>>
>>30082808
What? it says right there on the website the tank is 1000L
that's 600$ plus for a fill up.
>>
>>30079856
Where would you drive it?

tanks tear the fuck outta grass and make mud pits

and ruin roads unless you buy specialty march/drill treads/tracks

Which where the fuck will you find those

Also its too heavy for 99% of residential streets

also you need to import it and look at the fuck taxes
>>
>>30082942
wait i just re-read what's written it's conflicting, disregard.
>>
My only concern is the demilitarization process.. Do they really punch holes in the armor and completely destroy the barrel?
>>
>>30082989
In America you can just register the barrel as a destructive device I think
>>
>>30082989
They don't punch a hole in the armor but they do fuck with the barrel, however you can register the barrel as a DD and keep it. Ammunition is a whole other concern though
>>
>>30082989
>>30083037
>>30083038
It's not just what's required by the US/other destination country to consider, but also in the country of origin in order to get an export license for it. Expect the barrel/breach to have been fucked, and in some cases potions of armor are also cut away and replaced with plain sheet metal in places, the intention being to render the vehicle unviable as a tank (or whatever armored vehicle you're buying ie APCs). At least regarding the gun you could possibly make repairs sufficient to fuck around at low pressures with black powder, although of course potentially hilarious (for bystanders) consequences at your own risk.
>>
>>30079856
I would say for private use something smaller and cheaper like a BMP-1 would be way better.
