The black levels are off because televisions use different levels for black and white (16-235) instead of pc levels (0-255). Then you never have to deal with that again.

I've never had an issue with pixelation and everyone I hear complaining about it is watching anime.
The blacks issue is only an issue on specific cards on windows, so it's really more of a driver issue. You can also fix it by changing settings in VLC but those impact performance more. If you would like more information, see:

The full size of the download is 28 mb. It most likely wouldn't load unused codecs into memory, so it's only hypothetically taking up hard disk space. By comparison, MPC-HC is 12 mb. That's enough space for 2 songs.
