I absolutely love my Winchester 70 but there sadly aren't many that come with iron sights these days. just the Alaskan and Safari Express as far as I know.

it's easy to get confused. I bought my first Schofield repro as a Cimarron "new old stock" just based on Cimarron's stellar reputation not realizing they were just an importer. the gun was not made by Uberti but by the now defunct Armi San Marco, and had so many problems I wound up returning it. the Cimarron by Uberti that I got later was a world apart in terms of quality.

an ideal first revolver is a medium frame .357 Magnum with a 4" barrel and adjustable sights, made by S&W or Ruger.
.357 is powerful but manageable, great for self defense.
.357 Magnum revolvers can also chamber and shoot the cheaper and even more abundant .38 Special ammunition.
a 4" barrel is well balanced in the hand and gives much better ballistics and sight radius than a snubnose, and is still easy to carry IWB, OWB, or in a horizontal or vertical shoulder rig.
a medium sized frame will soak up the recoil well, without being heavy to carry.
adjustable sights have a good sight picture. fixed sights on revolvers are usually very minimalist.
S&W and Ruger are the best quality to price value, and they're easy to find new or used.
look for a S&W 19, 66, 586, or 686, or a Ruger Security Six or GP100

if you're getting a revolver, get a lever rifle in a matching caliber.
.357 magnum is good for both, but .44 mag and .45 colt are other options.
for pistol caliber lever rifles there's the Winchester models 1873 and 1892 and reproductions by Winchester, Browning, Uberti, Chiappa, and Rossi
there's also the Marlin 1894 and Henry Big Boy
the best choice for you depends on your budget, if you plan to scope it, and if you don't mind the Henry's loading procedure.

I bought the bayonet when I bought the rifle because it was cheap and I liked the idea of having both, don't usually have it on the rifle - most of the time it's a nice safe decoration.
