I just finished filing down the little leather strap buttons on my Romy type 1, but I feel kinda bad messing with what is essentially a piece of history. What are /akg/'s thoughts on the matter?

After doing some shooting with this thing I was surprised to really like the chin weld. I was concerned that I was going to have to adjust and just deal with it being weird but I find it rather comfortable, at least with 5.45.

Clear polymers are more brittle. My understanding is the polymer chains have to be a certain way, or else they turn opaque. Bend a piece of clear plastic, and you'll see it turn while as the structure is compromised.

Don't accept the transfer. Open and inspect the rifle before filling out the 4473.
Primary thing to look for is canted sights. This does not mean check to see that the front sight -post- is dead center between the ears. The sight -post- doesn't indicate if it's canted or not. What you're checking is if the front sight -base- is centered. You might already know this, but some people get confused there and don't understand.
Best way to check is to just sight down the top of the rifle and compare the sight base to the rear sight. Just eyeball it. If it's noticeably canted don't accept the transfer.
The only other problem that Arsenals are having is to have bubbly paint, and you can't check that in the store.

In addition to >>30075887 also check to make sure that the RSB isn't off center in the receiver, and that the gas block isn't canted. You will have to pop off the gas tube to get the best view.
ALSO CHECK THE STOCK AND REAR TRUNNION. I have seen an SLR-104 with a rear stock canted off to the right.
Check that the rivets are not crushed, the spot welds are clean, and that the receiver is not dimpled badly.
Shitty paint is to be expected and can be fixed at a later date.. which is pathetic but LOL ARSENAL.
Should I get an Aimpoint Micro with an RS Regulate mount or get an Obzor?
I really like the features of the Obzor but the purple tint and Crimson Chin weld is giving me second thoughts.

If it is a folding stock Arsenal (non milled) you have to watch that the rear trunnion isn't canted so your stock isn't off center when locked into position. pc related is what I saw on an SLR-104.

folding wire stocks on aks is something I don't understand. I don't get why so many people see them as a PLUS. Yeah, it's 0.5 oz lighter and less wieldy than a wooden stock... but the joy of guns is not in carrying them around, it's of shouldering and shooting them.
So much joy is in shooting them that the US made it illegal to shoulder pistols because of too much joy.

It's nice to have a folder stock to save some space. But unless it's a polymer stock shaped like the original stock, it's pretty terrible to actually use.
The think the vz58 has the only wire folder stock I can actually tolerate. It's still not perfect, but at least my eyes line up easily with irons and it's relatively comfortable still.

I really like the reticule actually. It's nice and crisp with a very clear aiming point (tip of the triangle) and the vertical and horizontal lines both bring your eye to the center and can be used for range estimation. I prefer it over a simple dot.
People will say what they will about the pink-purple tint, but the Obzor is a very clear optic and I really like it.

The Obzor is a fantastic optic. The tint isn't nearly as big of a deal as its made out to be. The only time it really bothers me is when it's darker/really really overcast out but in order to fix that just shoot with both eyes open.
The chin weld is another issue that always gets brought up but if you learn to shoot with it it's surprisingly comfortable (at least with a triangle folder or polymer folder). After a few magazines of shooting I was already used to it and it really opens up your vision to what is going on around you compared to when you're shooting normally with your face low on the stock. IMO the Obzor is one of the best optics you could get for and AK.
