And promplty snatches it with both hands off of my VERY hot woodstove, screams, drops it, and exclaims "OH MY GOD IT WAS HOT!" like this would be a suprising condition to find a metal object in after leaving it on top of a wood stove for several hours.

Not entirely true, the maker movement is a thing that is kinda starting to take off.
Basically the last 20 years or so of everything being done for you in exchange for pay has left the current generation feeling useless and dependant.
So some people are getting into DIY in a major way. They even have started opening community wood, mechanic, machine, and metalworking shops where useless hipsters can go and learn a trade.
But they are a tiny minority. I think that you are still mostly correct, even when you have the talent or skill you go to open up a gadget and realize it uses a specially engineered tool that only gets issued 1 set per dealership so no matter how good you personally are you are stuck either buying a new one, or taking it to one of thier specialists.
Seeing it more and more nowdays. I bet cars will follow suite soon, its just gotta be pissing auto manufacturers off to high heavens than anyone with a bit of know how can skip out on a hundred thousand dollars worth of repairs and checkups over a lifetime. Soon you will go to change your oil and find out that to get the specific exclusive wrench to pop the oil plug you need to be a registered ford dealer. Or some shit.

But I find it pretty fucking odd that everyone I know minus my family, but including all of my friends, everyone I meet online, every person I meet at work, everyone I see in college (oh god especially college.) has a victim complex, but when offered a way out of having a victim complex, they just say they want to become more dependent on others, i.e. more likely to be victimized.

It doesn't take long for a wear mark to appear on a revolver cylinder. I also own a blued vaquero that I bought NIB and after about 100 rounds, you could see a wear line forming on the cylinder. Not that it is a big deal, but still. The Blackhawk was virtually brand new. It had maybe 25 rounds through it total so there wasn't even a mark on it before.

I honestly don't follow you. Practicing shooting is not practicing to kill people necessarily, since many people shoot only at game animals or targets. And practicing to kill isn't even wrong if you only intend to kill to defend your own/your family's lives. I had kind of a mini-freakout the other day.
My sister (who is hardcore anti-gun) and I were arguing over the practicality of a handgun in a self defense situation. She seemed to be under the impression that people will just miss a lot and immediately run out of ammo (she also thinks pepper spray is the best weapon to prevent rape).
What made my brain break was when she said "Well, you only get like six shots". I asked why she was assuming the gun in question would be a revolver, to which she responded "I didn't, it's just, in the Deadpool movie, he's like 'I've got twelve shots' and he's got the two guns so..." and everything after that was white noise. I went on a five minute rant about the capacities of various handguns and the utter stupidity of basing all your knowledge of them on movies, but I don't think any of it actually sunk in.
Also, at one point during the debate, to prove a point about the supposed ineffectiveness of guns, she sited an article she'd read about some guy who tried to shoot an armadillo, only to have it's carapace deflect the bullet. I asked her what caliber his gun was, and her answer was "I don't know, it doesn't matter". I would have ranted even further, but my throat was sore from the first one so I just fucked off to the other room.
I've probably made her sound like a complete air-head, but I swear she's a really smart kid. She's got near perfect grades, and wants to work for NASA or some similar organization, which all just makes it even the worse that she's so dumb about this stuff.

I've got 2 Super Blackhawks in 44, the first one i just shot, the second got worked over before it left the house. First one has the bluing worn off, the second is only kinda noticeable, and I've shot several thousand rounds out of either.
