What does /k/ generally think of these?
90gr solid copper, I've had a lot of good luck with them, and shoot the +P+ 9mm out to 100yds from time to time with my Canik

No one here likes solid coppers?

If they feed reliably in your pistol, you can't do any better.

Only real world experience will prove their superiority, and that will be a long ways down the road.

In the mean time, there's no doubt that the recipient would at least have a very bad day.

What's the penetration with those?

This is gonna sound stupid but do any of know of any good viable 9mm "bear defense" rounds? Or at least hottest you can name right off the bat?
>>
>>30068365
Best 9mm bear defense is .357.

>shit carl we got a whole shipment of copper drill bits by mistake
>fuck it we've got a deadline
>>
>>30068455
.357 on a bear is laughable, especially out of a revolver.
>>
>>30068523
Better than 9x19.
>>
>>30068523
Best 9mm bear defense, just get a GP100 and run a GP100 only load, it's the strongest .357 you can get.

As for .357 alternatives, I'd probably get a .460 or just upgrade to long arm.

In practice I'm happy with a Glock 20 and a Mossberg.

Yeah any fmj, tmj or hardcast with a flat nose. I doubt you're worried about coastal grizzly and fmj penetrates like a motherfucker anyway. 15 -20 rounds of hot 124-147+gr 9mm will do just fine. Buffalo bore has some outdoors man ammo you can look into if you want something specific

If you're talking about black bear, they're not really that heavy or dense, so smaller cartridges can cause a bear to back down. But let's compare some muzzle energies, shall we?

9mm 115gr HP sports ~340 ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle. 10mm, the absolute minimum round for brown bear defense, gets up to about 740 ft/lbs, assuming heaviest wadcutters without approaching +P or +P+ ranges. The heaviest .357 mag, again, short of +P+, gets to about 770 ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle. Since bears are all about penetrating past thick hair, hide, fat, and muscle to get to the vitals, as much energy as possible is the deciding factor. Bump up to .44 mag, and you're talking about ~1200 ft/lbs. Go whole hog and carry a 12 gauge with 3" Remington Sluggers, and you're topping out at 3000 ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle.

In summary, if I was dealing with a black bear and all I had was my 9mm, I would shoot at the bear. They would be quite painful and harmful to the bear, especially if you place your shots well. If you find yourself being charged by a brown bear and your 9mm is the heaviest thing you've got, I would shoot the gun at the ground in front of me. Shooting a grizzly or kodiak with a 9mm is like shooting a Norse berserker with a powerful airsoft gun. It stings, but it's only going to piss them off further.

When you say you've had good luck, you're either referring to being able to shoot pennies out of the air, or are simply pleased that the rounds go off each time, both of which are very poor standards for judging something.

They are made for penetration. They will be good in certain situations where maximum penetration from 9mm is necessary, assuming you were retarded enough to rely on 9mm after acknowledging it doesn't penetrate enough for your needs.

They will be horrendous in situations where over penetration, or lack of expansion, would be very dangerous to yourself or your surroundings.

Now go kill yourself.
