OK I figured as much, I was in Alberta visiting and this guy was talking about a one day course, is this just a walk around or legit?
>>
>>30063162

Legit.

Are you doing both PAL and RPAL at the same time? Because you should.
>>
>>30063162
Usually, if you just want a PAL, you can be in and out of the course in a day, maybe 2 depending on the setup. You basically just spend about 6-8 hours covering the material that will be on the test, and handling the relevant actions before you do the actual test itself. They explain to you exactly how to pass the test too.
>Also I strongly recommend going for both licenses at once, you can apply directly for the restricted license.

I totally would but I live in the middle of nowhere, but their is a local that does rpal but in a separate course.

>>
>>30063200
If you don't have a range and don't expect to live anywhere near one at any point, you're probably right about not getting the RPAL then. If you think you might end up living in an area with a range, then I do still recommend it. Ultimately, it's up to you though, just know that you have to redo the entire license application over again if you decide to upgrade in the future.
>>30063237
SKS, I really love shooting my VZ58 and would've been more disappointed with any .22 rifle at this point. Not that much recoil, relatively cheap ammo, and you can actually feel when you pull the trigger.

Do both courses and send in one application. It costs you less that way.

Russian is always best SKS, but the military Chinese ones are almost as good, the difference is primarily in the style of bayonet. You won't really find any other kind of SKS in the country. Yugos are around but in very limited numbers, and I haven't ever really heard of any other ones showing up. Just get a Russian if you're concerned, but Chinese is essentially identical.
>>
>>30063279
There's really no reason to not go with a Russian.
If not, than a sino-soviet rifle is also good (Chinese make crap for the civilian market but their milsurp is solid).

Going to be starting work in Northern Canada. North of Thunderbay, outdoors all day, and in bush not explored. Question is, what are the appropriate pants for the job? Want something unique and interesting, without coming off as a retard. Most of the shit from MEC is expensive as fuck.

What's with Canada and scam ranges lately?

There is another range that is supposedly "opening soon" in British Columbia. It was announced since 2014, work was being done on it in 2015, and the opening date keeps getting pushed back farther and farther.

A lot of paying customers (people who paid off their range memberships or bought a Groupon) aren't left with much reassurance, because there is very limited communication.

People are starting to call that range a "scam" too.

It's not that they're scams, it's just that the planners/owners/operators are naive schmucks who think they can ram through 380,000+ pieces of laws and by-laws(Ontario) and build a range where they feel like.

Ammo can't go by Canada Post, they simply don't. Guns are supposed to be locked for shipping (nobody ever does lel). If you're going to the post office with a restricted gun, you technically need an ATT to go there once the gun has transfered to the other guy.
>>
>>30068815
Shipping NR any courier that allows firearms
Shipping R must be shipped by a licensed carrier (CP for sure, possibly Purolator w/ COS)
Shipping Ammo needs to be by courier (Fedex, Purolator, Canpar, Lumis) with 1.4S small arms/explosives hazard labels.

I've asked a few times in our threads, it's going on beyond 6 months now waiting for my renewed RPAL. Finally got to the provincial CFO and all they tell me its with them for now, they are waiting on approval and there may be more people ahead of me.

Is it common for the CFO to let things go beyond 6 months to force people to make that choice, go through the process again or just hand over or face a knock knock on your door? I don't want to do either, I just want my renewed license. I'm getting nervous.
>>
>>30070535
Call them and ask what the hold up is, every week until they get it moving.

Does anyone here have any experience with Pistol Caliber Carbines? I'm currently looking into them and found that the TNW's Aero Survival Rifle (In 9mm) may be a strong pick, compared to the JR Carbine.

Pic related is the ASR.
>>
>>30072064

PCC's are super convenient. Easy access to 10 round mags, low ammo costs (if 9x19), negligible recoil and good enough for 'yotes.
>>
>>30072064
No input on the ASR but the JR carbines are as shit as everyone says they are.
Other options are Sub2k and Beretta CX4
>>
>>30072102
Do you personally recommend any specific PCC, or should I stick to my choice of the ASR?
And unlike handfuns, most of the PCCs on the market are Non-Restricted, which is always fun.
>>

>>
>>30072141

Which is funny, because everyone kept praising them when they first came here. Or am I thinking of the Thureon?

>>30072156

The CX4 is fantastic if you can get your hands on one, though they can be pretty pricey. Also, not too friendly for certain optics because of the fuckhueg sight shrouds...
>>
>>30072156

CX4 storm imo
Has a bolt release and holds open on last shot
JR, Thureon, Sub2k, and ASR do not have either and that just kills it for me since they're all in the same price range more or less (sub2k is cheaper)

No experience unfortunately but I've been thinking about getting one. My front runner now is just to build an ar pistol in 9mm (is this an option in Canada?) Both of those options are a bit pricey too, and I'm trying to buy some land so I should probably just shoot the guns I have, sadly.

>>30072465
You can make AR's in 9mm but they will be restricted and are pretty expensive here, most PPC will cost less.

although i have reservations against the td model, it is more versatile than the sks. put a new trigger in it, put some glass on it, and you've got a pretty good rabbit hunting piece. or leave it totally stock and just plink.

the sks is the type of gun that if i had an enormous safe and already owned all the guns I wanted, I would consider buying if I could get it for $150. maybe the appeal is simply too esoteric, or maybe i don't appreciate muh slavshit to the same extent as /k/.

I never got the "bargaining" thing. Why not just list it at what I want to get? I don't really feel like wasting time back and forth haggling.

And is it bad form to have the buyer pay shipping? I'm willing to drive out locally and drop it off, but it's a hassle to ship guns.

Because people always want a lower price.
Would you take an offer that was 5 dollars under your asking price?
If so, thats bargaining. And if 5 dollars, why not try for 10?

The PPX is a discontinued model. Nothing against the gun itself, but parts will be a bitch to find if something needs replacing.

And even then, the trade isn't worth it. You're trying to sell your shit for Skorpion for around $700, right? A PPX range kit is $540 brand new, and worth a lot less used.

>No barrel
What's the legality of shooting a firearm without a barrel? Assume that classification matters little, and all other known legal parameters are met.

Cutting a barrel too short is illegal. Owning certain short-barreled handguns are illegal.
Disassembling a gun is perfectly legal, therefore removing a barrel is legal, so long as you don't reduce its length too much.

But what about assembling your gun sans barrel, and shooting it at an approved gun range?

Let's say you have to defend yourself in your home with an AR. The police take your gun for evidence? Would they take the entire gun or can you just strip as much as possible off the lower and hand them that since that's what is considered the gun? Is this a stupid question?
>>
>>30083397
They'll probably take the whole AR.

They may take everything else too.
>>
>>30083397

They'd take every firearm you own until you're ruled innocent.
If found guilty you go to jail a long time and never see your guns ever again
>>
>>30083397
They'll take the entire gun (and the rest of them too, since you're now a suspect in a homicide until the court case is settled), because you would basically have no time to strip everything before they arrive.

If confiscation happened and they were going around taking people's ARs, then you could supply them with a stripped lower, since you can plausibly deny that you possess any of the other components. But in the case of home defense, it's hard to assert that you sold the upper to Mike from Canmore between the time that you shot the guy and the time the cops showed up.

Alright Canada, let's say that hell freezes over, and ARs become Non-Restricted.

How are they going to enforce this?

If you're building your own AR, you have to inform the RCMP that you're intending on doing so. From my understanding, you're also responsible for engraving the serial number on it.

So, if you still have to inform the RCMP every time you start milling an AR lower, and you still have to tell them the serial number, what good is the non-restriction? The RCMP more or less has your AR in a makeshift registry.

Granted, they won't ever record your serial number in the "REAL" restricted firearms registry, but you only have their word that they won't.

Yes, a non-restricted AR would mean that you at least get to take it to the woods and hunt coyotes with it, but you're still not getting the full meal deal here.

If E-111 succeeds, it seems like only pre-built ARs will be truly non-restricted. Currently existing ARs would be ex-restricteds, and new builds would be recorded indirectly.
>>
>>30087411
ALL guns in Canada prior to 2012 are "ex-restricted", unless they were not registered back in the day.
There is no way they know you still own the AR after you mention it to them, since you could sell it the next day.

They can't, of course.

My question had more to do with how things would work for law-abiding citizens.

It's literally as hard as sticking shit in the trigger guard but it doesn't look like blue waffles. Propping the gun up properly is no different in effort and if you have trouble putting something under the gun instead of in the trigger guard you should be careful when walking around. You know, because walking and breathing would need to happen simultaneously, that would probably give you some trouble.

AR is NEVER going to be Non-Restricted, and it has nothing to do with being scurry salt raffle or librulz hatin' on freedumz

it's literally just a matter of it impacting too many other major aspects of gun law to be allowed -- the key being barrel length on center-fired semis, that separate Restricted and Non-restricted.

AR, being a modular system, with lower receiver counting as the official "firearm" part and the upper being an accessory, means that if AR went NR, it would only be ARs with barrels over 18.5" length, any shorter center-fired semi barrel supposed to make that rifle Restricted

but the issue with AR is that it makes that entire law invalid, because you can get 11" upper regardless of your license class and then swap it out with your 18.5" upper, going back and forth between R and NR on a whim, with no way to monitor or enforce the barrel length classification.
>tl;dr: they're not gonna give you NR ARs and break the barrel length restriction laws in the process, that's why they let you have NR Modern Varminter that is incompatible with AR uppers/lowers and comes in only one barrel length, which is NR

>>30089692
I highly doubt it's the barrel that's the issue.

As an example, the BRS-99 is a firearm that is legally sold in Canada as both NR and R. Its classification depends on barrel length.

If you swap the barrels on a BRS-99, you technically have to register it within 30 days. No big deal, you can either be a cuck and register it, or you can just change it back to the NR barrel before the 30 days is up.

Heck, I've heard of people taking their NR BRS-99 to the range, putting on an R barrel, shoot it, switch it back to its original NR barrel, and going back home for the day. No registration, no ATT, no bullshit.

If you can already do class-changing barrel swaps on other guns that are legally sold in Canada, why would the AR be any different in this regard?

>>30089843
yeah, but this is an obscure (Polish, if I remember right), pistol-caliber weird-thing that has little popularity and mixed reviews at best

the reason you can buy the R barrel for it is probably more to do with the fact that the crown doesn't know enough about it to shut it down. AR on the other hand is easily the most popular modern sporting rifle in North America -- allowing it to go the same route would indeed render the barrel length law obsolete

>was BRS sold with both length barrels or something, but not as an R firearm? sounds more like something that went under the radar than purposefully allowed

The BRS was sold as R and NR with extra barrels sold on the side.

I'm assuming if the crown's cavalry ever needed to look into it, all they would have to do is get TacImport's sales thought the CRA records and see who bought the R barrels
>pretty much what will eventually happen to all the 80 AR lowers
>>
>>30090172
But are companies required to keep detailed sales records of unserialized firearms parts. I would think not.
>>
>>30090323
no, but they are required to pay their taxes, which means they account for everything they spent money on and everything they sold, with receipts and records of transactions, which would include items sold, to whom and probably shipping information all in one simple piece of paper

normally all of that info would be collecting dust at the revenue agency, but if anyone is interested in who bought what, I doubt this CRA would make a big fuss about not giving those records over, since it's one gov't agency cooperating with the other

>Streamlined Classification
--Full auto prohib
--Sawed off less than 26" OAL prohib
--SBR restricted (Anything under 26" OAL)
--Handgun restricted
--Everything else NR

Its quite possible that the following will be restored to normal classifications
12.3 converted auto
12.4/5 named prohibited
12.6/7 shortbarreled and 25/32 cal pistols
It also seems possible that 12.2 will be able to be grandfathered.

>>30089692
You can buy SBR barrels shotguns, Tavors, XCRs, ACRs, etc. and they all swap in very easily. That's a trash argument.
>>
>>30090464
I fucking wish that becomes a reality.
>carrying your AR SBR in the bush
Muh dick
>>
>>30089692
That's a dumb argument. There are already rules in place that account for the changing of classifications because of a change in barrel length, and there are tons of rules the RCMP can't really enforce unless they happen to stumble across someone at the exact right time.

You're thinking of S-223, done up by the crazy lady who retired. I'm asking about the one that defines the word "variant" in the criminal code as it relates to firearms.

Hear, hear.

Hell, just changing the stock on a lot of our firearms (Think the Dominion Arms Grizzlies) can change your gun from NR to R.

>C-230 correction
Has had its second reading but did not have enough time to come to a vote so I has be placed back into the order of precedence. Since there is no fixed time on how long the items ahead of it are worked on the next time it comes up is estimated to be as early as June 7.

Where get 18.5" AR-15 barrel? Cheaper the better.
>>
>>30094529
18.5" is not a common ar-15 barrel length. Your choice is 18 or 20 and as some anons can tell you good luck finding a cheap 20".
