Are there any military roles the get issued SBR's instead of M16 and M4?

The m4 is an sbr dumb ass

Okay, sorry.

Yeah I've seen Navy EOD with them. I know what you meant by SBR, way shorter than an M4

Specialized door-kickers like ST6 and Delta supposedly have a lot of rifles with extremely short barrels (but suppressors added to the end0, and the subpar performance of 5.56 out of those is what drove the development of rounds like the .300 blackout and others.

Nigga, please. The alternative AR cartridges all suck in some way. It's just the limitation of the design once it was scaled down to the length of the .223 Rem cartridge. If you have realistic expectations for what a 10-12" barrel can do with so much powder charge, you can learn to appreciate what effect 5.56 NATO has from it.

Sounds interesting, but I don't quiet get the point... I am pretty uneducated and properly need a more forward explanation.
Is 556 good or bad from a 10-12" barrel?

Don't be mean, its a simple question.

The AR was originally designed around a .308 Win cartridge. The design was scaled down to a smaller round, .223 Rem, to accommodate military demand for a rifle chambered in a cartridge soldiers could carry a fuckton of. That round became quasi-standardized through NATO as 5.56 NATO and there was some effort to standardize magazines for 5.56 NATO (STANAG magazines).

Because of that standardization and the popularity of the AR design, we're fairly limited in how long and how thick an alternative cartridge can be. Most of the time, these alternatives don't fit the magazines well, break bolts more often, or simply don't fly as well as what we already have.

That's half the explanation. I'll need to get back to you on bullet construction and the terminal behaviors people put a little too much emphasis on.

EOD use a few different short barrel AR variants, usually Mk18 or M4 CQBR uppers on A1 or full auto A2 marked lowers, usually with a CAS-V EL rail system and 10.3" barrel, but there are pictures of them with A2 carbines that the M4 replaced like the Colt 727

I need this in 300 blk except the gas port at the pistol length position. Who makes a dissipator setup like that?

At longer ranges, it's not as good as a 14.5-20 inch.

But it's specifically for CQB distances so it's moot point if it's not "as strong" you're going to end up riding someone down anyways. At least that's how I see it.

Perfect balance, 14.5 midlength desu
