I don't know what they're saying but there is a ton of great flying footage going on here.

heh that kid
OH SHIT HERE THEY COME
why the fuck does he keep emphasizing it was a "democratic process". this was like the tenth time
>that Gulfstream
>those 2 F-35s by its side
THANK YOU BASED AMERICA
>do a flyover
>don't come back for another 10 minutes
Have they crashed? Turn around and land faggots
Are they doing a water salute?
>literally living next to a military airbase
Cucked
This actually made me panic for a second.
So if they suck at dogfighting, are they at least good at bombing the shit out of some moderate al Qaeda fighters?
>>30043505
>if
But they don't, friend.
>>30043459
HAHAH.
>cucked
Living there would be the dream. Seeing cool planes erry day.
>>30043505
>dogfighting
Basically a meme with modern BVR missiles
>>30043516
Thats even better news then.
But what do they excel at? Im sort-of a noob so bear with me here.
>>30043538
Highly accurate bombing strikes. they excel in all fields but with its advanced camera and targeting computer nothing can beat it in that field.
>>30043564
Are they capable of longer distance runs or are they more of a medium range aircraft
>>30043569
Their range is comparable to any other aircraft it competes with. i.e. rafale, Euro fighter, super hornet, etc
Its not like a long range bomber or anything it functions with an all around purpose like a jack of all trades kind of a master of none.
>>30043505
>>30043536
>>30043516
This.

Significantly longer, but sure.
>>30043620
only with expensive drop tanks that affect its radar signature.
And the waters of wrath will rise high, and the Drowned God will spread his dominion across the green lands
dat crosswind
>>30043630
dat insanely low landing speed on that passenger jet
>>30043124
While watching this, I noticed that the F-35 tends to lead backwards while flying for some reason. Why is this?
Someone should really cut together all this footage into a nice sexy montage.
>>30043643
There is an answer to the question I just don't know it.
>>30043624
>>30043643
All aircraft fly at a slight angle of attack relative to their flight velocity to generate lift. As speeds increase, this required angle gets smaller, as lift increases with the square of velocity.
Pic related: X axis is angle of attack, the angle relative to the oncoming flow. Y axis is "C_L", a unitless coefficient used in the equation L = .5*rho*V^2*S*C_L, where rho is the air density, S is the planform wing area, and L is the lift, equal to weight in steady level flight.
The NACA 0012 is a very basic symmetrical airfoil. It may be mounted with incidence and wash, taper, and other factors that affect this lift generation. That image is just the airfoil. The slope is much less steep in an actual wing due to various 3D effects.
Aerospace engineer, trying to simplify this before my coffee has kicked in.
>>30043642
That's actually a DC-10 converted to a tanker/transport aircraft
>>30043666
Thank you Satan, saved for future reference.
>>30043675
Thanks anon. I only caught a quick look at it, and am not the best at ID'ing non-fighter type aircraft. Even then, I'm only good with American ones.
>>30043124
The F-35's helmet system has a camera in it, right?
So could we have POV videos of F-35 piloting in the future, or is that shit classified?
>>30043686
No problem famalam.
>>30043662
Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II/Range (no tanks)
2,220 km
Eurofighter Typhoon/Range
3,790 km
Dassault Rafale/Range
3,700 km
Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet/Range
3,330 km
This what google is telling me. Idk man.
>>30043624
...no, not at all.
>>30043717
This is the best I've seen so far. It's just a simulation, though

>>30043727
>Range
Try combat radius, with comparible loadout.
Those numbers are meaningless because they're probably ferry ranges.
>>30043727
Range numbers presented without context essentially mean nothing.
>>30043739
>>30043742
Good to know. Are there any good sources for this stuff?
>>30043124
Hell of a show, thank you.
>Too many women not in uniform hanging on.
>>30043124
Any other Bong here feeling slightly anal pained that we didn't get the first or second transatlantic flights? Why are our F-35s still in the USA?
>>30043801
Training over there.
>>30043801
becuase the US military won't provide until you Brexit. Sunset.
>>30043801
It's because you're going to vote to STAY, and your Scotts are emasculated pussies who can't stand Freedom. All of Britain must suffer for your lack of lust for freedom.
>>30043801
Are your tankers certified for refueling the F-35 already?
Anyway they are going back to the US in 3 weeks. This trip is mostly done to familiarize the locals with the sound the F-35 makes, and they will be on display during the RNLAF open days.
>>30043801
Not really, this flight was a gimmick.
We're playing the long game here, just wait until we've got two carriers, then we'll see who is anal pained.
>>30043727
Typhoon, Rafale, and Super Hornet are all using ferry tanks.
Here's some simple numbers that can tell you how far each plane can go on internals.
F-35 : 8.4 tons internal fuel
Typhoon : 5 tons internal
Rafale : 4.7 tons internal
Super Hornet : 6.8 tons internal
The dry thrust and specific fuel consumption of all 4 are pretty similar, with the Rafale having somewhat less thrust.
>>30043947
Not really a gimmick, actually a nice gesture by our minister of defense who wanted to familiarize the locals with the sound of the F-35.
>>30043595
>Stoler på Regjeringen
Might as well read out of lockheed's product catalog.
>>30043353
It's dat plane!
>>30043643
Lifting body, why the wings are small for its weight.
>>30044476
I WANT TO FUCK A F35
>>30044457
>Don't have any experience with the aircraft at all.
>Can only fall back on David Axe and Pierre Sprey.
>Discredit someone who's actually flown the aircraft and speaks highly of it.
Oh anon.
>>30043731
>Flee-eur
Is that how FLIR is really pronounced?
>>30045836
Fun-Luh-eeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEE-ruh
>>30043717
It'll be classified 99% of the time, but I reckon we'll eventually see PR footage set up with the cockpit displays blurred and the video footage altered. I'm not sure if there's a separate little visual spectrum camera for this, but the headmounted camera is also apparently capable of being used for training debriefs (I don't know if this already happens or not) and for investigations into mishaps.
>>30043768
Wikipedia (that's where Google gets its data). Just be aware that the combat radius of each jet will be with different configurations; one might be a hi-low-hi strike mission, one might be for a CAS mission, one might be for a hi-hi-low air to air mission, etc. Some may be with 2 bombs, some may be with 4 bombs, etc.
>>30043630
I noticed the F-35 was more stable on approach than the F-16 which was wobbling.
>>30046291
the F-35 weighs a lot more.
>>30043727
>Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II/Range (no tanks)
>2,220 km
Is that the B model? Because it has less fuel capacity than the A/C model.
>>30046303
The F-35 does also have better flight control software (look up Delta Flight Path (also known as MAGIC CARPET (that's actually an acronym) for the Super Hornet)).
>>30046339
That's for the A model, but it's not actually correct; that number is just the combat radius x2. The issue however is that in doing so, you're assuming that the F-35 somehow does two (fuel inefficient) ingress and egresses, drops 2x JSOWs twice and has two dogfights. The ferry range is something up around 1800NM (3330km) based on publicly released fuel burn rates during cruise.
