Patriots, if you can get them. China has a lot of planes and a lot of SAMs, best if you can just deny the air to everyone, per Soviet doctrine.

Never.

Because the Vietnamese Communist Party still deems the US political influence and attempts to Colour-Revolutionize them as a bigger threat than China's attempt to grab some actually uninportant islands.

With China, there are at least negotiations and talks. But with the US, they will only have democraization atempts and funding of dissident groups that will stage protests and attempt to overthrow the ruling commist party of Vietnam.

Point is, despite island dispute, the Vietnamese government is still closer politically to China than to the US. Both are communist dictatorships and both fear nothing more than to end up like Ceausescu, Saddam, Gadhaffi etc.

The majority of China's cities are already like this. This is a fact. I just came from there early this year.

China shows how economic growth and capitalism and western popular culture will not bring automatic understanding with the US. But that global rivalry will alwas happen, regardless of economic or political system. Because the world is only that large and a Hegemon like the US or China will never tolerate each other in their sphere of influence.

On the Philippine Front: Based Duterte has won

>China stops harassing Filipino fishermen: Officials

>MANILA: China has stopped harassing Filipinos from using their traditional fishing ground in a disputed shoal in the South China Sea apparently due to a “paradigm shift” in the position taken by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, the presumptive president, to resolve the issue, two officials confirmed on Saturday.

>“The situation at the Scarborough Shoal has dramatically changed,” Professor Rommel Banlaoi, the head of the Philippine Institute for Peace, Violence and Terrorism Research, told GMA News.

A democracy that is completely independent from the US, i.e. that is not influenced by the US NGOs, is also playing the great power game.

See, Russia.

Yes, Putin was actually elected by the people. What he does might not be liked by the US, but that's democracy as well. The Russian people want Crimea back, and Putin does it.

>I like how China is BTFO all conventional wisdoms and theories that Americans and Westeners so far have spread; something about how 'no two countries with McDonalds will ever go to war', and how 'capitalism brings peace and understanding'.

That theory only held true, because all western or eastern democracies were allies or occupied dependencies of the US (like Japan or West Germany). So, of course allies and vassals never fight wars against each other.

But if there's an independent capitalist democracy that isnt allied with the US and has territorial interests that collide with the US or any western ally, war will happen.

See, Falklands.

I have to disagree. On an individual level there is competition, but on a macro level, we understand each other (us/china) implicitly. Our philosophies are converging, and we continue to entangle. There is a rivalry, but also a cooperation, and it is totally a cultural double-think, but it works. The US and China are both aware that going to war is not profitable, but building for war is. Building for war also has added benefits of creating a force that can ensure global hegemony, and prevent rivals from even trying to compete in an effective manner.

The United States NEEDS China to grow as a military power, because it helps to do a few major things. Solidify our own population against a common rival, the non thinking rubes who need something to rally around, it is the same for them. Next, it forces our allies to consolidate and quit trying to do their own thing, they have to take a side and fall into line, and now the choices are quite polarized. There is a global plan, it works, just quit fighting it and move forward.

Finally, you have your hard and soft approach. The undeveloped world needs iron rule, they don't understand or respect any other method, and it will take several generations of reeducation to bring them up to speed. The US gets to manage the developed world and sort of developed areas like India, China takes on Africa and South America. We all get resources and grow.

Every new technology made to compete with the US spurs domestic development, which in turn propels the US forward in technological capability.

The above is not exactly the main thought, but it is at least a secondary or tertiary result of the current geopolitics, and all sides involved are quite aware of it.

Protip: I have been given one US dollar, and 3.28 Yuan by the Illuminati.

Useful thing about 'communism' is that the word can mean different things based on context.

Marxs theory of communism is that one government will disappear over time and people will live communally. Communist = global communalism, in that case.

So a 'communist' government is a government that supposedly is working towards that goal, not necessarily is actually communist at that point if ever.

But remember that living communally can also be called communism, not just Marx's theory. Anarcho-communism, hippie communes, christian communism, kibbutzim. All communist things. Communism is a concept that is older than Marx, he didn't invent the term, all Marx did was predict that the world would transition to communism at some point.

Also note that marxist-leninism and its variants (including Stalinism) breaks from traditional Marxism because it tried to skip the capitalism phase Marx believed was necessary for socialism to happen, and instead use a strong one party dictatorship to direct the country.

So yeah, according to Marx, Capitalism is required for socialism. They are not opposites, one simply leads to the other.

China Pumping Troops In Areas Close To Indian Border: US

'China has deployed more troops near India border'
http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-international/china-has-deployed-more-troops-near-india-border/article8601953.ece

China has increased defence capabilities and deployed more troops along the Indian border, the Pentagon has said, as it warned of increasing Chinese military presence including bases in various parts of the world, particularly Pakistan.

“We have noticed an increase in capability and force posture by the Chinese military in areas close to the border with India,” Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for East Asia Abraham M. Denmark told reporters during a news conference here after Pentagon submitted its annual 2016 report to the US Congress on ‘Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China’.

Vietnam isn't pro-Russian. They just didn't have better place to buy arms. Now Vietnam will abandon Russian in no time.

Been digging through this but I don't see anything on imports yet. Curious to see if we manage to get any exports out of Vietnam. Those funky 7.62x25 AKMs and other oddball guns would make for good surplus sales in the US I'm sure.

>What should Vietnam purchase

From the US when it comes to equipment? Missiles, specifically TOW's, perhaps things like Humvee's and older but still viable equipment we'd otherwise send our Nat Guard units.

Some Patriots honestly wouldn't be too bad; I'm pretty sure your IADS is pretty good right now, but extra missiles never hurt.

Planewise: You need something that can compete with the Chinese Flanker variants and also integrate well with surplus stuff you've got. The second part is really what'll kill you: buying Russian aircraft right now really isn't a good call. However, we've got three good, reliable, J-8II and J-10 murderers you can get relatively cheap and will supplement your own Flankers.

>F-16IN or a potential Vietnamese varient
Hard to go wrong with the F-16 to replace your Su-22's. The little plane that can do practically everything without breaking your budget, the F-16 also has the advantage of an absolute fuckload of spares, potential US pilot training, compatibility with a truckload of munitions, and a good service record. Worth a look.

>F-15
GOD'S PLANE. You want something that'll basically be your Flankers, but newer and full of freedom? Buy some F-15's. Worth looking at.

>F/A-18 Super Hornet
Great fighter, also great attacker. Will piss off the PLAN and PLAAF by being really good and capable of carrying a shitton of stuff for both SEAD and strike operations, along with CAP stuff.

You could also look into snatching up some Rafales if you want to go french, that Indian deal is just asking for someone to step in and make a better offer.

>$500 million is used for procurement
For all branches? That's utterly destitute when 4th gen fighters cost tens of millions each at the very least.
