My friends, I have heard vastly different things online about the WASR rifle. I find it enjoyable to shoot, but how does it really stack up in terms of AK rifles? I mean in terms of accuracy, rugedness, and reliability most of all. Does it really do the Kalashnikov design justice, and what are its closest competitors?

They're all rugged, pretty accurate, and reliable. They can have questionable fit and finish compared to new-manufacturer rifles.

Drop the trip. It's a fine and dandy rifle for the price. If you want something similar buy a zastava. If you want something better pay 200 more and get a ddi or 400 more for an arsenal.

They're solid rifles for the price, used to be a better bargain when you could snag em for about 450 but they're still good. I'd probably just pay the extra little bit and get a DDI though like anon said, I'd avoid Zastava simply because of proprietary furniture and get something a little more universal AKM. Arsenal makes good rifles too though I guess recently they had a bad batch, wouldn't let it stop me from getting one though.

OP, I have one and I love it. Most WASR rifles seem to be just fine. As for accuracy, well, RobSki didn't have a problem getting effective hits with this one.

on ak files someone who seemed to have knowledge of romanina assembly lines said military contract aks get first dibs of the good parts (most inspec).
wasr is a good all around package. affordable, takes standard mags and furniture, pretty easy to find.
more expensive guns might have smoother 'this' or shiner 'that' but its not much different
my thinking is you can run into more out of spec parts w wasrs.thats not to say other guns have problems i've seen shittyness w every factory

WASRs are fine OP. Don't buy online. Inspect in person check for any dumb bull shit. There's tons of resources to see what to look for in a WASR online.

I would agree for some reasons, and disagree for others.
On the one hand, it's convenient to see and feel the gun you're buying before you put down any cash or commitment to the deal. So buying locally from a private party or in a store is best for convenience for sure.
On the other hand, buying online will probably be much cheaper, however if there is a problem with the gun you have to refuse to take transfer of it from the FFL and then wait another month or so for shipping both ways to get another one.
If you can find one locally for 600ish then i say skip online and go for it. If they are all 700+, just grab one from buds or whatever.

New WASRs are pretty nice for what they cost, Century's QC definitely saw a good improvement. The old ones are sketchy for that exact reason.

This is exactly why I created the thread. When I first started browsing /k/, WASR was considered a crap $400 AK, at least that was the meme. A lot apparently had to do with Century's QC reputation.
The opinion got progressively better until when I decided to get my first long gun, I chose the WASR since I am poor and sunk my good gun money in a handgun that I can carry regularly.
Now, WASR are considered perfectly fine guns since really only the Yugoslavian AK-style rifles compete with it price-wise. All recent WASR hate seems to be retards justifying their $1000+ AK purchases.
And all I want to know is if I have a well-built, SHTF-capable rifle that didn't break my bank

This thread was initially just about the quality of the WASR-10 AK, which is pretty good for the money since it's overcome its former QC issues.
But as you can see from the salt mine operator above, it's been derailed by a butthurt Arsenal AK owner who's mad that his "premium" AK is not of any high quality (or perhaps even lower) than the "budget" WASR-10.
Now it's just a butthurt post chain because some anons refuse to accept that higher cost != higher quality (especially when it comes to AKs).
