What kind of knife do you carry, /k/?

I've been really looking into what I want to take with me on a daily basis, but I've found that I'm quite picky. I don't want anything too thick to be in my pocket all the time, otherwise I've been looking at the Skeletool CX or the Swiss Trekker knife.

Recently I've taken to looking at the Buck Vantage, seems like a nice looking knife for an affordable price.
You guys got any opinions?

How do you carry it? I need something that I can carry in my front jeans pocket. I have a Charge TTi which is perfect, but it's a little too heavy for every day pocket carry.... Such a shame.

Are you in the military, or are you one of those civilians who is a sex-tourists and visits all of these countries sampling cheap-easy-free pussy that you can cum inside of with no protection and no consequence, and then tell people that you have been to those countries in a smug vague way and let everyone assume that you served in the armed forces protecting your country?

If you pretend to be in the armed forces, what is your role, and how has your knife served you well?

because it's just a bad knife.

Really depends on what you want a knife for, but for general bushcraft you want a 4-5 inch blade, 1/8'' to 5/32'' thick, with a comfortable handle.

look at pic related - you want this general style of knife. The cheapest you can go is probably Condor Bushlore - all depends on how much you want to spend.

The knife is extremely thin. 7 mm at the thickest point. Blade is high carbon C75, 56° HRC.
The concept is the same since 1867 and it's produced and assembled in Solingen Germany.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgiCOg08F7s

It's a classic and doesn't cost that much.
>>
>>30031052

narrow.

Thickness is the spine (usually). Just an aside.
>>
>>30030904
>no protection for fingers slipping onto blade

Opening shit. I break down cardboard boxes at work all the time with mine. I'm not a nutnfancy autist who thinks that a edc knife would be effective beyond a deterrent role. And even then you risk overplaying it and escalating a situation unnecessarily. If you flick a pretty little pocket queen out at a dindu, it'll go one of two ways:

1) he'll change his mind and leave, or more likely :

2) go full fight or flight mode and go apeshit on you

Tl;dr unless you have a gun or real knife, hand the wallet over to the nice dindu and void your credit cards when you get home

Looking for one I can one hand open though.

Going to post my favorite knife.

It's actually not that good of a knife because we can't get it to sharpen well and you can't open it if your hands or the blade is slick at all, but I think it's very cool to keep on my shelf and show people.

English is not my native language, but when I google image search "narrow knife" it shows many filet knives with long and "narrow" blades".
When I search for "thin knife" it shows the same, but with a few "thin" examples of folding knives.
The card sharp is also described as "thin".
>>
>>30031328

well you said 7mm, which is not thin at all.

Unless you meant the total thickness, including the handle - then that's a brain fart on my part - i'm used to people using things like "thick" or "thin" with regards to the blade.

sorry for the confusion.
>>
>>30029699
I carry a vantage force pro at all times, it's my most favorite knife.
I really like buck knives, I don't really like 420hc in my knives.
So I go for bucks s30v knives, if they offered more they'd make a lot more money off me.
I just recently ordered 2 of their Hartsook ultralights cause they have them up on sale for $21...
I can't pass up an s30v knife at the price of a mora

It's a shame the only one I can find in Rosewood grips uses 420hc, I really like that scaling.

How much does the steel quality actually matter in terms of normal use? Does opting for a better blade increase the price significantly?

>>
>>30031849
Just buy both a swap the scales. And avout the steel difference,in my opinion it doesnt matter too much as long as you can properly maintain it.
>>
>>30032063
Are they the same size? That Pro model has a much different looking scale design, but that might just be a visual difference and not a real change.
>>
>>30031849
Bucks 420 is pretty damn good. Holds an edge ok, but it takes one very well. Also very corrosion resistant.

>buck vantage

1st one i got was full size and was a solid model that never failed me for a good year and a half of carry- since left it with some friends i used to room with. One day i tried doing something stupid with it and the lock gained a lot of slop, though it still worked for light duty tasks, i didn't like EDC it anymore. the 26c razor steel i had was cool but definitely chipped the blade at some point, lacking in toughness for sure (i had to reprofile it)

2nd was a small size and the lock was shit and failed and it cut me

honestly now i just think at the price point a small fixed blade is way better. i carry an old cold steel readyedge now.

>>
>>30030904
Camping mostly. I want to spend up to 40$, preferably under. Im considering the glawk knive bcause its cheap and looks really tacticool.
>>
>>30031849
Well since the "normal use" of a 119 is skinning a deer, ya the 420 stainless is really good.
It's a good steel, not top tier but good. Very easy to sharpen
>>
>>30034596

well, that's the problem. It looks tacticool, and nothing more. Tactical knives make very poor camp knives. Yes - you can use them, just as you can use a kitchen knife to carve wood, but there are better ways to skin a cat.

Pic related is a condor bushlore - probably the cheapest functional version of Ray Mears' woodlore knife - at around 40, that's probably your best bet.

Alternatively, you can get a mora - they're a bit of a meme, but they're cheap, and reliable.

If you absolutely want something tactical, the seal pup is a decent choice - will cost you closer to $50, though ($75 if you want the non-serrated version).
>>
>>30034726
Kek, that mora looks more like a shiv than a knive. Not really into serrated blades, never found any use for it. Your pic looks like a secent workhorse tho. In the end it seems like an form vs function thing, but i still dont get why tactical knive make bad camping knives. Could ya elaborate?
>>
>>30034842
They were not built for the tasks you would be using them for.
It is just that simple.
>>
>>30034842
Just do what everybody else does then. Buy something tacticool, try and use it camping, get fed up when it sucks and then buy one of the knives the other guy reccommended.
>>
>>30034842

guard gets in the way of things - contrary to what the dork in >>30031115 says - your fingers will not slip, even if you use a barrel handle.

Tactical blades tend to be thick, narrow, and have bad grinds - usually a shallow grind that is great for strength and stabbing, not so much for cutting.

For a user knife, you want either flat grind, or scandi (zero) grind, not the saber grind of a tacticool blade.

Also (though the glock is not as bad in this), tactical knives tend to have handles profiled for one style of grip (called the saber grip) that is good for combat, but for doing things around the camp, you want a handle that is very comfortable no matter which way you hold the knife.
>>
>>30034859
Alright then, thanks for the help
>>
>>30031202
>Shooting people in the head is the only way to deescalate any violent situation. Ever.
Regular fucking fistfights happen quite often and not very often does it result in murder. Seriously, I'm not saying you should bring fisticuffs to a home invasion, just saying to be reasonable. If someone verbally demanded my wallet and they had no weapons in their hands, I wouldn't double-tap his ass with blinding speed.

you mean bushlore? I have a mini bushlore - it's quite a decent knife. Some people frown at 1075 steel, but it's good enough.
