Why haven't these been made?

It seems like we're past due for this technology unless there are some major drawbacks?
>>

> major drawbacks
80 tons with small surface area for feet, will sink into earth pretty much anyware. also if it falls, how the fuck do you get it back up
>>
>>30022730
please take your butchered macross designs back to /m/ please.
>>
>>30022760
In that case, would a smaller human sized version work?
>>
>>30022730
LEEEEEEEEEGSSSS!
>>
>>30022730
robotic weapon platforms are a thing. Even estonians have made them

Because tanks exist.

I wondered this awhile back. Looked it up and found an incredible article talking about the Jaegers from the movie Pacific Rim.

io9 . gizmodo . com /5925549/ could-we-actually-build-a-robot-the-size-of-pacific-rims-massive-jaegers

Remove all the spaces.

Calm down fatty it was just a random google image search for a mechwarrior..
>>
>>30022780
aren't there already human sized weapon platforms? idk how well they work

MAD CAT
TRASHBORN GO IN THE TRASH
>>
>>30022730
Legged tanks are "rule of cool"
Looks neat but in reality completely stupid. Timber wolf weighs 75 tons IIRC, how the fuck is the small surface area of those feet going to spread the load without sinking in on any surface that isn't hard?
>>
>>30022730
I wondered this same thing awhile back. I don't want to spend the time trying to figure out how to post a link but Google for pacific rim robots possible io9 and you'll find a great article talking about why they are not possible.
>>
>>30022819
The mad cat seems like the most realistic of these if they were to exist.
>>
>>30022835
Literally no BT designs are realistic by virtue of them being giant bipedal war machines.

This?

Btw those pacific rim robots were fucking retarded famalam.
>>
>>30022851
I preferred playing inner sphere so I didn't have to worry as much about heat management. The weapons were heavier but better imo.
>>
>>30022855
Pretty sure they weren't pretending to be anything else other than big stupid kaiju bashers.
>>
>>30022780
yeah, they are called grunts, usually armed m4, grenades, sometimes rockets or some other shit, really versatile
>>
>>30022870
It was a cringey movie to say the least.
>>
>>30022884
It wasn't.

BT is cringey because it pretends to be realistic.
WH40K is cringey because of the fanbase.
PacRim is just some fun summer popcorn movie about big robots punching aliens with cargo ships.

Yeah it was. That main dude was treating that Asian chick like a freaking child the whole time. I was ready to dick punch him.

>>

I'd also never... do whatever the heck they called it when they shared memories to control the Jaeger with anyone, ever.

There is some shit I've thought about that should never be shared with other humans.
>>
>>30022939
I think it was just sharing memories and not thoughts. Not like that's any worse.

What, like powered armor or drone?

We've got the latter and are working on the former.

Extremely slow many-leg designs are probably the best way to go for unmanned ground vehicles. I don't see walkers being useful in any other way.

It was objectively a pretty bad movie with a stupid, predictable plot and shitty acting.

That being said, nobody went in expecting that. It was advertised as an hour and a half of giant robots punching giant monsters, and the plot didn't get in the way of the mindless entertainment.

It's in beta and looks a lot better now. Most of the maps are still the alpha placeholders, but the parts models, effects, and animations are way better.

>unless there are some major drawbacks?
Bingo. Legs are needlessly complex and have negligible benefit (if there's any at all). Just look at how much work it's taking to get bipedal machines working even with all the advanced technology today.
