I've heard people mention that the film John Wick is muchloved by /k/ommandos.

I know nothing about guns - what are the things John Wick did right?

>>
>did right
What do you mean ``right"?

What matters is that it was bad-ass.
And he got revenge for his dog.

I've heard people say that the combat scenes are somehow more realistic/professional than most action flicks. And I would be interested to know about specifics.

The shooting was pretty good to be honest.

Helps that Keanu did a bunch of three gun to prepare for the role.

as indicated by >>30012180
was part of his practice for the role.
>>
>>30012167
I wouldn't call the combat realistic but yes on the individual level the gunplay and tactics were spot on.
>>
>>30012167
It was very "by the book" if that makes sense, if action flicks were realistic they would fight like in John Wick, instead of dual wielding gold plated Deagles with an anti tank weapon as a secondary
>>
>>30012180
I'm no expert but it seems more realistic in that he doesnt bother with Jason Bourne/Ethan Hunt hand to hand most of the time, preferring to just shoot the fuckers
>>
>>30012252

holy shit that sounds bangin' though
>>
>>30012136
It was a fun flick. Go watch that shit.
>>

In movies it's not that you typically get a lot done right it's more like golf where it's how many times do they break the illusion of the movie by doing something retarded.
In John Wick there were really only 2 things I can remember.

1. The sniper shot through a stained glass window with a blind impromptu set up.
2. The scene where John is driving a Dodge charger and several guys are firing into the car at close range, easy shots, and yet John is not injured from this presumably because he's in the car.

Other than there was some "bad guy dancing", meaning the fight choreography had the bad guy waiting to be punched, you notice it in the club scene and John Wick also pulls of a lot of snap head shots throughout the movie. I've actually met people that could do that though so it didn't bother me like it did others.

Overall, it was a pretty good action flick with minimal movie retardation.

It's a kino
>>
>>30012167
its good cinematography. In most action films the fighting scenes cut very quickly and the cameras are too close so you fant rven see whats happening.

In John Wick theyre pretty fluid and long shots. and pair that with great and interesting choreography, you get a good film
>>
>>30012167
It's straight up some of the best choreography I've ever seen. It helps that all the stunts were done for real, and didn't require movie magic to make them work.
>>
>>30013167
It was a 1969 Mustang Mach 1.

Did you even see the movie?
>>
>>30012136
In the aforementioned clip:

Pros:
>his carry rig is reasonably set up (pistol at 5 o'clock, magazines at 9, backup gun at 7)

>There was reasonably good use of cover

>There is reasonably good expression of the principle "always cheat, always win" meaning he fights dirty to get an advantage (shooting the guy in the foot, stomping on feet, utilizing improvised weapons)

The bad:
>bad guy dancing

>obvious fight choreographing (anyone who's actually been in a real fist fight knows it's a very dirty and imperfect affair)

>Gun choice is ludicrously impractical

>choosing to use a 3 inch dagger for silencing sentries as opposed to an 8 inch fairbairn-sykes fighting knife
>>
>>30014122
You what?
first you go on about a fullsize with a comp but then you do a flip and say get a big 'ol honking dagger? be consistent

also, nothing at all impracticable with a full size.

Sure it's not the most concealable thing in the world but it's still easily done.

It's these. He used Center Axis Relock a lot, he had to reload, he hurt his back bad when he fell off the second story, he staggered and wheezed when he got hit on body armor; it was basically an operator mob fantasy. Tie that up with how Keanu clearly knows his shit (see >>30012180), and you got what was clearly a well-thought out, well choreographed, and VERY well-researched action movie. Not realistic, but closer than most war films or action films get at.

>>30013804
Also, hugely this. It was crafted beautifully and took pride in its form. It didn't shake and make you nauseous, it didn't hide it with tricks. They worked that shit out for hours, day in, day out, and showed it to you beautifully. That's sadly rare in film, anymore, and people connected with it.

>>30012314
3. The team of dudes sent to hunt John using flashlights reveiling their position to the Baba Yaga. Like come on bro if these were professional hit men they wouldn't do that shit, the most basic bitch E-1 knows light discipline
>>
>>30012152
What if?...The Russian mobsters were actually ATF agents in disgiuse?
>>
This thread made me finally cave and watch it. I loved it, easily the best movie I've seen in a long time. The choreography, cinematography, sound design, and acting were just so so good.
>>
>>30013352
Fuck off tv I know you're trolling but they really ought to be able to automatically ban anyone that uses that word
>>
>>30012136
/k/ommandos love John Wick because it "looks realistic" but really because it allows them to vicariously live out their lone gunman killing spree fantasies.

It's practically porn.
>>
The fact that he actually reloads is nice. As someone conditioned by videogames to count shots it irks me when they have people shooting 30 rounds from a Glock 17 without reloading.
>>
>>30018185
>using flashlights revealing their position
All the things you listed are good points. but this is the only one that triggered me when I watched it the last time.

How would you feel if Keanu was casted to play Sam Fisher
>>
>>30012136
I'm a little late to party but main thing is they kept the round count correct. He reloads when mag is depleted.

I fucking hate when a movie just shows a guy shooting unlimited rounds. Plus Keeanboo is in shape and actually has skills. I give him a 9/10. Would Khe Sanh with.
