I recently bought my first gun, a Ruger GP100 revolver, which I truly love.
However, now, I want to graduate to tactical survival SHTF gun. I am leaning toward Ruger rifles just cuz I'm comfortable with the Ruger name now.
But I know that /k/ knows what is really good and can guide me in the correct direction

Your GP100 is already a decent SHTF gun. Get a .357mag carbine to complement it so you only need to stockpile one kind of ammo.

First of all, a GP100 ain't a bad weapon for many roles, and for a realistic SHTF scenario would be good.
However, if you're leaning towards a rifle, are you thinking bolt action or semi-automatic? Intermediate cartridge or full power?
I'm no expert, but if you're looking for an AR, then Colt's are pretty lightweight. Also, you'll be able to pick up 5.56mm ammo and parts for it as you roam the desolate landscape.
