Aside from the standard warnings do they ever communicate with one another on a more casual level? Strike up a conversation or something?

This just came to me, why is the F-22 in that pic with drop tanks? I thought those things had enough internal fuel to make interceptions on their own?
I'm wondering if they did that partially to let the bomber crew detect it on radar so they would know they were being intercepted.

There are two reasons why the F-22 in that picture is carrying external tanks:
1: To extend the range and the time on station (flight time) in order to ensure that the Bear is actualy escorted out of the area (Alaska/Kamchatka/Chukotka region is very, VERY large).
2: To hide the actual RCS (Radar Cross Section) of the F-22 to prevent the Russians getting some accurate measurements.

lol, the external tanks are allready more then plenty for the effect. But yeah, that would be funny.
For others, what he is reffering to is, are Luneberg lenses which artificialy increase RCS and is often used in excersises like Excerside Red Flag. Pic related.
