Vortex Viper 2.5-10x44
Picked this over the 32(?)mm objective optic because I figured the larger objective would be better in low light. I do miss the parallax adjustment as present on the 6-24 PST I've got on my Tikka, but I'm happy with this optic in the role that's intended, on a recce concept AR. Ditched the RMR, if something's too close for 2.5x I can comfortably point shoot it.

I have a first gen Vortex Strikefire that I'm sending in for warranty later this week. the control board broke the first time I used it. Albeit it was on a Cetme with a collapsible stock. sooo.....yeah. pretty violent recoil.
>>
>>29969672
You could do a 45deg mount for the RMR. How do you like the PST on the tikka? Do you use it much at the maximum magnification? I've got to try out the razor on my tikka (>>29969621) next weekend.
>>
>>29969844
I only use the bipod as a stand. I usually keep it on my Draco.

I don't really go past around 18x most of the time. My Tikka is a .308, I only shoot to about 1k. The higher mag is great for range and wind estimation though as well as observation at distance.

I forgot to add, I've been extremely happy with the PST and it was the reason I went with another Viper optic for the AR. The EBR-2c reticle is really fantastic if you don't have time to dial corrections, but it doesn't feel too busy or cluttered.
>>
>>29971455
Nice. I'm kind of regretting not getting a CTR instead of the T3, but for the cost, I'm okay with it as my first bolt rifle though. I'll be testing my handloads and getting my rifle zero'd and make sure to post groups when I got them. 175gr TMK's with 42gr of powder to start and I'll work up from there. I'm psyched about the ebr2c as well, it seems like a great reticle.

Nice. I've inly tried 175 SMK/TMK's in primarily factory ammo. I'd like to try some Hornady/Berger rounds and perhaps try to see if I can get away with the heavier rounds with the Tikka's 1:11 twist rate.
>>
>>29969621
Thoughts on rmr? I was going to buy that instead of getting fucked out of an extra hundred or two hundred bucks for an aimpoint but I don't want to have to deal with a lemon which I heard is entirely possible
>>
>>29972209
I've heard the duel illuminated ones will melt it you put then on an AK ultimak rail and they suck shooting from the shade out to a sunny target.

The adjustable LED one seems to be the best, kind of sucks that you have to remove it to change the battery but you should only have to worry about that every two or three years.

I haven't gotten to use one myself though.

Mro or rmr? I got the Mro for short range stuff instead of a T1/2 or a CompM4s because I wanted better field of view than the micro dots but not the weight of a full size compm4 on my SBR. I was going to go with the rmr but I decided that the FoV was too small.

Well, at least you mounted it right and don't have a barrel mounted bipod. There's having cheap stuff, there's having bad stuff, and there's using any stuff badly. My leupold Mk ar is only okay. Good glass, no chromatic aberration or blurry edges, but duplex reticule, no illumination, and only a 1.5 setting. And it's costs $300. It's not even American made, it's made in China. Every other company at this price point manages to get a true(er) 1x, and or better reticule, and or illumination
>>
>>29974148
I personally like the more compact 2.5
The lower magnification is better up close too.
>>
>>29975450
Center of balance should be right around the magwell so having a heavy ass optic mounted a few slots back is better... Cantilever mounts without a magnifier are kind of dumb though.
>>
>>29975490
The vortex red dot isn't heavy. And it's also about making the body as small as possible in your vision to improve both eyes open shooting
>>
>>29969844
>16 in carbine

Building a rifle fir home defense. I believe saving up for an aimpoint would be the smartest move, but any recommendations?

>>29975940

>>
>>29976714

>>
>>29975490
>Cantilever mounts without a magnifier are kind of dumb though
Not really. Depending on where the person's natural rest is, on the rifle, the scope just needs to be where the best sight picture is. The scope could be far forward and the cantilever allows it to be mounted all on the main receiver without having a ring mounted on the rail, or whatever would otherwise be the most accommodating.
>>

That's a second focal plane MOA scope. Are you doing a specific type of competition shooting that requires those? If not, I wouldn't recommend it. Not to beat a dead horse, but perhaps you should take a look at the Razor Gen II 4.5-27 EBR2C?
