What is this? A stencil for 1/10 scale tank models?

And it astounds me that despite that stencil having been around since my senior year in high school, no one decided to replace that shitty text with actual Stencil font.

The original text was made by the artist. It was a stylistic choice that people respected until your gay ass came by and said "huhrrr, I can't read not-computer words! I make it computer words!".

Bumpan for this. Love the Plague Doctor patch/stencil, I've been seeing it forever, but is there a story here?

Guess what? I am that artist. My honest original intention was for it to be Stencil, but I had no references for it at hand when I draw the stencil and I was just some dumb teenager with a fixation for Keith Thompson art. Granted, I have no way to actual prove that I'm the artist other than my word, the original itself lost in my family's home in some folder I abandoned once I left for college and eventually the military.

I'm just actually glad that the stencil has been incredibly enduring and enjoyed ever since I scanned it and uploaded it to /tg/. That's all that really matters in the end, honestly.

>>29964570
Again, made it back in my last year of higschool, right before I started doing more consistent drawfagging for /tg/, but I digress so enough of this.

Here is some fictional lore for you.

Basically real Plague Doctors were medical professionals dedicated to trying to learn and treat the Plague in Medieval Europe, though many artists have created lore over the years fictionalizing stories of these Plague doctors. The doctors realizing that they could not treat the Plague and instead focus their efforts on "purifying" those that have the "corruption" inside of them. Basically killing the infected to reduce the spread of infection.

This is another good summary. And source of the image I used.

I knew I recognized that Plague Doctor. Or at Least I can see the inspiration.

I just posted one of his pics here >>29973465

You did a good job, Nugget Enterprises made a patch based off of it and I made stickers.

i've never used stencils before but now I wanna try it.
you remove the black part, stick the stencil on the object, and paint it, correct?
>>
>>29975415
you can do that, but generally that's messy and it will spill and make the stencil's shape unrecognizable, you would ideally want to follow this guide >>29962030
>>29962041
much cleaner, and with reusable stencils

I also use the girlfriend's vinyl cutting machine to get an essentially one use stencil, but it's super easy to use. and if you're careful about it you can use the interior parts of the stencil to get a sticker of whatever your stencil is.

In his book, "Comet", Sagan reproduces an ancient Chinese manuscript that shows comet tail varieties: most are variations on simple comet tails, but the last shows the comet nucleus with four bent arms extending from it, recalling a swastika. Sagan suggests that in antiquity a comet could have approached so close to Earth that the jets of gas streaming from it, bent by the comet's rotation, became visible, leading to the adoption of the swastika as a symbol across the world. Very interesting, isn't it?

It would really explain the consistency of the symbol, Ayy Lmao aside. I get pyramids; pyramids are common as fuck because they're the first megastructure technological progression really allows for. A specific recurring cultural symbol is weird as fuck though, especially when recurring with the same meaning (something regarding auspiciousness in most cases, IIRC, which seems consistent with how other transient astronomical phenomenon seem to have been regarded historically.)

Do we have any other evidence besides the Chinese document and Sagan speculation? Not that he's untrustworthy, but that's not much to go on.

>>29985028
Thing is, swastikas are far from consistent. I'm more inclined to believe the prevalance of it is simply du to the fact that its relatively simple.

It suggests rotation or perhaps radiance, so its not hard to imagine that various people drew it independently from on another, and it caught on because it looks cool.

I've found myself drawing swastika-like symbols while doodling without realising, just because they make for a good pattern or shape.
>>
>>29986632
Yeah, that's true. Generally I'm skeptical of everyone-saw-the-same-thing explanations and favor people-like-the-same-things explanations. On that note, it would be much easier to chisel than a spiral. Might have something to do with it.

That's some interesting shit. All I knew before was that Navajo weavers called it "Whirling Logs" and was very common like pic related until 1945. It even appears in ceremonial sandpaintings.

Like pic related. The story behind it is that a man goes on a journey after an argument, he carves out a log and sails down a river until he gets caught in a whirlpool, he gets rescued by the gods and learns his lesson.
