Opinions on my next build?
Prices are in Australian Dollars

Ruger Precision Rifle (6.5Creedmoor) $2000
SWFA SS HD 5-20x50 $1800
scope caps/sunshade/killflash $100
SWFA S.S.A.L.T. $80
Atlas V8 Bipod $300

=$4280
>>
>>29960357
$300 on a bipod? are you retarded? The RPR already comes with a bipod and buttstock support
>>
>>29960390
atlas bipods are amazing
>>
I'd say that works, though im not a fan of the atlas bipod myself.

Ive never fired a ruger precision rifle, but as an average group of .75 moa from alot of tests I'd say it is adequate. Its really your money.

I find chassis systems to be heavy for my liking, so if you are driving it around and not humping the gun on a sling I'd say go for it. I have an m1a in an ebr chassis, and while its a great firearm that averages around .8 moa with my handloads, I myself use a Tikka to good effect if I am hiking into my long range spot. The ebr is just too damn heavy to want to hike around with.

At either rate, hope your choice becomes your new favorite firearm.
>>
>>29960357
Anyone one know of a good place to get a Short action for a savage?
I would rather just but the action and bolt, a Barrel, and a chassis than going a head and buying a complete rifle and then a chassis.
>>
>>29960357
I mean with my good handload any modern rifle will go sum-moa. Why spend so much on essentially a Ruger American with a fancy stock? I don't get it.

Decent amount of extra features?
Maybe they have a bunch of aftermarket AR bits they wanna slap on.
>>
>>29961401
it literally shares no parts with the Ruger American
>why would you buy a Ford Raptor when it's basically a Focus with fancy suspension

you
>>
>>29961401
he's Australian, I'm guessing it's the lack of anything AR like that isnt a gimmick
>>
>>29960553
Post pics of ebr!
>>
>>29960896
Sometimes its cheaper to buy the rifle completely. Companies realize people like to buy the parts separately in order to save money so they jack up the price of certain items for example the actions.

>>
>>29962769
Figured as much,
Guess I'll just get an FPC HB and kill that barrel waiting. Side question.

criterion $370 < no fit>

Pac- Nor $575.00 < mated to action>

Or other.
>>
That bipod on your gun? legit a 25 dollar bipod on Ebay.

Found a 0.4moa 5 shot load with 168gr hornady bthp using cfe223, Winchester brass, and S&B LRP... My varget loads were not very good with that projectile. Hopefully the Amax does better since I bought 8lbs of varget...
>>
>>29960357

Seems good to me. You can't go wrong with SWFA stuff, but the SSALT is their lower-end mount if I remember right. It also might be set up for AR15 front sight clearance.
>>
Does anyone here shoot 7mm Rem Mag? I'm using 171gr bullets and trying to come up with a sweet load for ~1500y shooting

Random question for you high-precision gurus.

I'm a despicable fudd, .30-06 is my favorite rifle cartridge. I'm a backwards hick who'll probably never shoot past 1000m.

But can someone explain to me the advantages of all these newfangled cartridges? 6.5 Creedmore, .338 Lapua? I'm sure they're better but tell me why and how?

And how do you pronounce Lapua? "Laa-poo-uh?"
>>
>>29967145

They are much more efficient, both in bullet design (lose less energy in flight, remain more stable, etc.) and case design (more effective for the size of the package.
>>
>>29967145
Honestly if you're familiar with the 30-06 you will do just fine, it's more about knowing how a given round will react than anything else.
The advantages for the above mentioned freedom seeds are higher Ballistic coefficients ( " straighter flight paths", more or less) and a longer extreme effective range.

like >>29967278
said.

But at the end of the day, if you've got the skill, and the bullet fairy is on your side you could probably hit shit out at 1100 with that 30-06.
>>
>>29967278
>>29967312
Thanks, guys.

So how do the numbers work? I mean, the bullet exits the muzzle at a certain velocity, and immediately begins falling to the ground at exactly 9.8 m/s, right? How can we "cheat" that to get higher ballistic coefficients/"straighter flight paths"?

It's not just ever-higher muzzle velocity is it? I mean, the .270, .300 win mag, the big-bottle 7mm's, etc etc, have been around forever, yet 6.5 and .338 still seem to be taking the long-range world by storm.
>>
>>29967403
Another anon here. Maybe I'm mistaken, but it's not just the round, the rifle has a lot to do with it. From the quality of the barrel, it being free floated, the trigger, etc
>>
>>29967403
The BC of a round is a measure for how "slick" the bullet is. Its an expression of Drag.

The higher the BC the less drag a bullet has, and as such Long skinny bullets slip through air better, and are slowed down by the air less, thus gravity has less time to act on it in the same time frame as it would a lower BC'ed round.
>>
>>29967043
Yeah I'm planning on changing to a primary arms of this one lets go. Its been good to me though
>>
>>29967537
I'm looking at the SWFA HD's or even a USO fixed 10 power.
>>
>>29967145

Your wind drift with the 6.5 is on par with your heavier 30cal stuff.. .610+ BC in a 140gr package. So the 6.5 will give you a less of a horizontal spread if you shoot anything lighter than 200 grain from your 30-06.

The bottleneck of the cartridge also helps them get into good standard deviations, literally single digit changes in muzzle velocity, so thats a vertical spread component there.

That and the recoil is softer.

But your 30-06 will do just fine.

You wull not be able to buy the swfa in austrailia or have any mildot scop sent to you. It violates itar.

>>
>>29967145
flatter shooting cartriages, same or better power/range in a short action, improved aerodynamics
>>
>>29967145
also, a well tuned handload 30-06 will work equally as well as any .308, .338 or 6.5, so no realistic point in switching platforms for a newer caliber
>>
>>29969712

Mildots are considered a military tech. And are controlled under itar.

It is fucking retartrd. I agree.
>>
>>29968424

>>
>>29970486
Nope. Tryed to buy a swfa 10x . was told by them no.

As the 10x had a NSN.

Anything with an a NSN number definitely falls under ITAR.
>>
>>29960357
Why the hell are you spending 2K on a 6.5 Creedmoor even the newer 18008 Version (which I own) can be had on Gunbroker for 1300+shipping+FFL+ tax if you have shitting tax laws like Washington does on online Gun sales.

1769.14 Australian Dollars = 1300 USD

I got my RPR in Australia for 1850 AUD. Which is 1359.43 USD Not really getting ripped off at all, considering shipping internationally, customs tariffs etc
>>
>>29972761
So get an ITAR export license. It isnt that fucking hard. Costs $250 if you do it through Brownells.

As good as thread as any to ask.
I have a marlin 883s and I want to mount my scope on it.
It does not have a rail in the common sense.
What are the best most secure mounts for this receiver?

>>

You mean it's got the dove mounts? Or no mounts at all?

if it has no mount, get it drilled and tapped for a mount of your choice. If not, find dove mounts.
