Is there any value in Militias for modern nations other than to serve in shit stations while the regular military does the true fighting?

Can militiamen honestly have any justification in taking their place in the line of battle alongside professional troops?

Sure. Same advantage it's always had. It's not that hard to bring militias up to speed compared to most other civilians, and the organisation's a big advantage.

Historically speaking, the value of militia is well established.

Militia in the historical sense? Yes, of course. If you are a poor exchequer and cannot afford paid soldiers, you must use volunteers. Just like volunteer firefighters, police or paramedics.

Using volunteer soldiers alongside professional troops is quite mundane, particularly when it comes to specialist designations in a training capacity.

It seems odd asking this as our ridiculously advanced military has struggled lamely against basically every militia it has come across.

>implying you need to be a super trooper to be an effective combined arms force.

You get a shit ton more boots on the ground while only having paid half the price.

Large standing armies are just money sinks.

Unless you think IED's are significant in any way.

Basically, Every military unit has its AOR.

During military maneuver (or when shit finally hits the fan), some elements of said unit needs to be mobilized to the response, so the remainig unit left will have to spread themselves thin and this creates void that is ripe for the picking by enemy forces.

Establishing a QRF unit would partially alleviate the problem, but then again establishing (and maintaining) a large QRF is expensive.

Thus having a second line of defence would be necessary. It doesn't have to be militia (in a sense of a group of ragtag faggots with their Nuggets and SKSs, which is what /k/ usually thinks of when the word militia is mentioned). Some country had gendarme forces (a professional paramilitary unit usually attached to the police), while others use reservists (NG, TA, weekend warriors, etc).

Deployment of militias(see definition above) is only reserved for when the whole country needs to be mobilized, red dawn style. For me at least, having an permanent militia unit is a sign of weak government, since they cannot provide security for it people (and the people themselves have to take arms to protect their families from brigands, thieves, commies, rebels, etc).

Your neighbor opposes America owning his rice field, it's just what he does.
You don't even grow rice but you saw your neighbor, you lead an insurgence, it's what you do.

different kind of Militia Just because Bob and Sam and Joe think they have a militia does not mean they are one. Most of those guys are operationally just a well armed mob. Maybe they could function as guerrillas. I saw one "militia squad" get lost just trying to hike as a group a few miles thru a national forest. This was pre GPS so today they might be able to do it.

Official militias usually get trained for duties they can do to support standing army units. Also militia usually can be at least defensive.

I almost joined up with one of those "unofficial" groups but everything was so disorganized and bullshitified i couldn't fucking stand it. Plus one of the out of state generals literally screamed "white power" then looked me right in the eyes with other hatred.... I'm half spanish. Needless to say, i flew off the handle. After talking with my local general i decided that i was gonna step out and see how it looked after they got more grounded.

Crazy hyper-inflated titles should've been your first warning. I'd bet the bunch of skinheads you hung around with wasn't large enough to warrant a short colonel.
