Actually Russians had(dunno if they still have) better shelters/bunkers as their nuclear war doctrine was like "we're not going to do the first strike properly, so we'd better launch then nukes fast enough for total annihilation and hide so we can spread communism post-apocalypse", while the US was convinced that they CAN win nuclear war - fire the rockets so quickly, that they'd destroy any launch platforms soviets had before they could use theirs.

No one has the balls to use nukes in the 21st century.
I dont think nukes are even our final form, there are probably better weapons storaged in secret bunkers, this is worrying, someone might think they would tip the balance and could make them win, then they could start world war

Not going to happen. But a Thirty Years War in the MENA region is going to happen. And it's gonna put a serious strain on Europe, not least of all because of the resulting refugee flood. We have seen nothing yet. The US better support their most important allies as this thing has the potential of turning some European nations away from democracy. And Russia is supporting all this because functioning democracies right next to it are a manifest threat to its leadership and state organization.
