>meh, still a great deal for a Russian gun, and will save me having to buy an extra caliber to feed it

How'd I do for a babby's first Mak?

What guns did /k/ buy this weekend?
>>
What's wrong with it?
>>

guessing he wanted one in 9x18
>>
>>29948284

Eh... If you think .380 is fun to shoot then you did well but I would personally never use that round seriously.
>>
>>29948351
>>29948363
I haven't shot it yet, but nothing seems wrong with it or broken. The bore is good and the springs still seem to have a lot of life in them. That just seemed like a too-good-to-be-true price. Yeah, 9x18 would have been cooler and more authentic, but I already have guns in .380, and this looks good physically, so it's not like it's that much of a beater.

I'm picking up a Springfield Lightweight Champion Operator this week when it comes in. I'm pretty stoked. It'll be my first 1911 since I sold my Springfueld Loaded to pay rent when I was in college.
>>
>>29948387
It's getting cheaper and cheaper to buy .380 these days, so it's not that bad to plink with. I think last time I saw Tula .380 in a store, it was in the $12/box range, which is pretty do-able. Plus, I already have a lot of ammo in this caliber, so I don't have to buy ammo right away.
>>
>>29948284
The first two times I read your post I saw it as .308.

If you are actually going to shoot it a fair amount it's probably the better mak to have. Better sights, more ammo choice and availability. You done good OP.

Currently trusts and corps dont have to undergo a background check when filing because they arent people. 41F adds "Responsible parties" for each trust and those people get background checks.

A Form 4 individual also has to undergo the same level of background checks and takes significantly longer than a Form 1 Trust or Form 4 Trust.

>inb4 "but the atf is hiring more people"
They "hire more people" every year and it still takes obscene amounts of time to file a Form 4 individual
>>
>>29948468
That's a lot of gun for only $225. You can get 17 round magazines for them made by mec gar.
>>
>>29948632
Background checks take like 30 seconds to do when buying a gun. Why should it add months to the process for buying a silencer?
>>
>>29948649
Because the ATF is dumb, even with an efile a Form 1 trust still takes 90 days. There is some stuff about "additional checks" but none of it is public knowledge so its impossible to tell.

They are just going to add time to the process for Trusts just to limit people getting NFA items. >Individual Form1/4 takes a long time
>some people dont want to wait this long so they dont file
>people start using trusts and efile to speed up process
>41F
>"Sorry guys we need to add background checks for everyone so its going to take a long time :^) "
>Fewer people file Form1/4

Aimpoint PRO for it shipped today, and 1k rounds of Golden Tiger ships Monday.

Gonna be a good weekend next weekend.
>>
>>29948284

Not a bad buy OP, just be careful when you decock the thing, always have the muzzle pointing downwards and ride the hammer down with your thumb. The mak's firing pin is free floating, so when the muzzle is pointed up it drops down a fraction and this can lead to a light primer strike, not such a big deal with steel cased 9x18 which tends to have thicker primers, but with .380 it can cause an ND. I've seen it happen twice.
>>
>>29948738
Thanks for the tip.
>>
That's actually cool OP, and as other's have said probably a boon if you are looking at higher volume shooting.
As for me nothing too recent, bought a C-308 a few months ago and have finally into battle rifles. Looking at a NIB S&W 686 but it's across state lines and my friend/shop owner has hell trying to find people to transfer.

Yeah, apparently they had just put it out yesterday. I don't even go to Cabelas that often, but for some reason today I had an urge to check out their used guns.

I figure the guy in charge of appraising guns yesterday must have just gotten laid before coming to work, maybe was otherwise doing drugs, maybe is dyslexic - "$239" would have made a lot more sense. Looking around on Gunbroker, $250 and up seems to be a more common price for this model.

Then again, when I asked the Cabelas salesman who seemed to be in charge of the Gun Library to take the "Makarov" out of the case, he reached for the Tokarev right next to it, so maybe he really didn't know what he had. There were about 15 P-64's out in the normal handgun cases outside the Gun Library room, and I believe they were all priced in the $240 range.

I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong with it, but the firing pin seems to be intact, the action cycles fine, all the latches and levers seem to work fine. The double action trigger pull is heavy and stacks really badly toward the end, but it's not so bad as to make me suspect a kitchen trigger job. It feels about like I'd expect a military trigger would feel like.

>>29949688
Don't you need a press or otherwise some special tool? Not that I actually am motivated to change the barrel or put more money into the gun. It being in .380 is actually just fine with me, since I already have a bunch of ammo in that caliber. For the longest time, I had been considering a CZ 83 in .380, but never got around to buying one because the only ones I found that were in the $200 range were really ratty.

>>
>>29949864
Yes, I'm well aware of what the grips look like. Ask me if I care about something like that for the $149 OTD that I paid for the gun.
>>
>>29948284
You did great for $150

Who cares if it's 9mm Browning, a Russian Makarov for $150 is a steal. People will give you crap because it's a commercial model but they're still great guns, they just have a thinner finish and sharper edges and just less attention to detail. They still function fine and are still genuine Russian Makarovs without having to pay nearly two grand for a Russian military model. I've had an IJ-70 for a dozen years with countless thousands of rounds through it and it's held up just fine.

I'd suggest replacing the rear sight with this: http://www.gunpartswarehouse.com/pistol-parts/makarov-pistol/ij-70-fixed-rear-sight.html

Its a much smoother sight (the adjustable ones are rather sharp) and it has a wider notch that really helps with target acquisition.
>>
>>29949958
Thanks for the tips. The finish on mine is really high polished - I don't know how thick or thin it is - I assume they polished it pretty well because that's what regular civilians like the buy, similar to the way the CZ 82 has a black Rust-Oleum sort of finish, but the commercial CZ 83 has a glossy blue finish.

Do you know if regular 9x18 magazines will work with it? I kind of think they probably will feed .380 fine, but I'm not sure about fit and locking into the gun and don't want to make an expensive mistake. Where do you buy magazines for these kinds of guns anyway, Gunbroker or somewhere else?

Not him but:

>CZ 82 has a black Rust-Oleum sort of finish, but the commercial CZ 83 has a glossy blue finish.
It's very similar to that. Military Maks just have a better finish while the Russian commercial Maks have a cheaper thinner blued finish (mine has a purple tint to it)

>Do you know if regular 9x18 magazines will work with it?
Yes, they're interchangeable

>Where do you buy magazines for these kinds of guns anyway, Gunbroker or somewhere else?
You can find them on various gun parts stores online, and you can actually find them pretty frequently on Ebay.

Nice dubs my friend. The can is just a shroud right? I was looking at a similar one based off of a MP5 that had a atheistic can.

Sexy Mak.

Just curious what the horizontal rectangular openings are? One on the slide and one above the grip

My 1986 Bulgarian Mak doesn't have them, and I've never seen them before.

But .380 probably isn't significantly less powerful than 9x18. I think there's just more novelty to 9x18.

Lol oh shit I didn't look that close. I feel dumb

What's wrong with us knowing serial number? It's not really good for anything is it?
>>
>>29950249
It's just good practices for posting things on 4chan or the internet in general. In theory, a prankster could falsely report your gun stolen (although it would be a crime for them to do this). In theory, the NSA could be data-mining this website and filing away all the information you provide them. In reality, there's nothing wrong with posting your serial numbers and nothing bad will probably ever come of it. But there's no reason not to err on the safe side.
>>
>>29950249
while you cant really get any personal info from it, the reason i hear often is someone can report it stolen.
generally speaking, i think its good practice to keep whatever identifying info you have off the internet. serials, license plates, exif data, whatever

>Person reports stolen (imported Makarov) gun in different state
>police track serial to Cabelas in diff state
>find records from import to sale

>charge prankster

Is this a reasonable assumption? Assuming the police take the report seriously and investigate it. And assuming prankster has to give name, address, etc to file report.
>>
>>29950324
>>Person reports stolen (imported Makarov) gun in different state
>>police track serial to Cabelas in diff state
Uh.....

I'm going to assume that you've never had anything stolen from you and filed a police report about it. Police don't do shit to recover stolen property. It would only come up if you go to sell the gun to a gun store or pawn shop, they run the serial, find that it's reported stolen, and then call the fuzz to come down to the shop to investigate.
