I accidentally left my rifle in my car while I was at the gym earlier today, and it got really hot in my car (around 90deg) and the sun was directly lighting my rifle. I don't see any damage, but is my rifle still safe to shoot? I hear heat and sunlight can damage guns.

It's fine.

What kind of rifle?
>>
>>29946351
>I hear heat and sunlight can damage guns.
Are you talking about an airsoft rifle, or a G36?
>>
I know this is a troll but is there any truth in this? If I leave my carry gun in my car in the sun is it going to cause problems besides burning my hands?
>>
>>29946351
Prozac will help your ocd. Unless you had an fn pistol in there in which case your cherished squish squish could double as a fleshlight
>>
>>29946394
Why the fuck would your gun be harmed by heat from the sun when it can withstand far higher temperatures from just firing it. (Unless it's a plastic toy like the G36 apparently)

No, the sunlight (at least here in south florida) can permanently alter the grain structure of your firearm and create unsafe conditions for shooting.

>I accidentally left my rifle in my car while I was at the gym earlier today

Irresponsible, shouldn't be owning guns in my opinion.

> Sunlight effecting grain boundaries in metal

My God, the amount of effort required to dispelled the bullshit that you just dropped is an order of magnitude greater than what it cost you to type it. It's amazing we have ever moved forward as a species.
>>
>>29946418

Well of course you shouldn't leave fish in direct sunlight or it spoils, this is basic shit here man

You can't say /thread/ to yourself, that translates to "I agree with myself"

Yes, if it's made out of rock candy and crayons

I dunno, ask the Rangers in Italy during WWII or the Marines of the Iraqi invasion. I'm sure they saw more sunlight than your faggot ass does. Where do you work out, Planet Fatness?
>>
>>29946652

He can say what ever he wants, welcome to 4chan, faggot.

Plus he can agree with himself, cause he is right.
>>
>>29946351
Think about how hot it gets inside a tank in Iraq/Afghanistan or a patrol car in Arizona. These guys have rifles and ammo hanging out in there constantly. Long of the short you are good. Now stop doing stupid shit like leaving your rifle in your unattended vehicle.

My favorite part is the leaving it in plain sight.

I thought this was going to be a thread about how OP got his gun stolen by deliberately attempting to get his gun stolen, and how he regretted his decision to try and get his gun stolen.

But no.

No, it was actually dumber.

If you leave a loaded shotgun in a hot car long enough the shells will deform under spring pressure and jam the whole thing up. Takes a while with modern shells though.
>>
>>29946652
Anon, next you'll be telling me that you can't inb4 in the OP.
>>
>>29946394
plastic furniture degrades over time when exposed to direct sunlight
this will take years
>>
While we're asking stupid questions does anyone ever get concerned that their ammo might pop off inside their car due to summer heat/hours of baking in the sunlight?

This isn't your average everyday Fuddlore.

This is... Advanced Fuddlore.

This is why my guns only go to indoor ranges and I use urban concealment holster my guns haven't seen the sun
>>
Sunlight has been proven to damage firearms. That's why you should only shoot them in complete darkness, or leave them in a safe.
>>
>>29946418

Honestly, the humidity is probably fucking your shit up worse than heat and sunlight
>>
>>29950311
No, the heat required to cook off your cartridges would sooner melt/ignite your upholstery.
>>
>>29950429
Good work brother. I always keep a temperature gun on me (since I live in South FL) and monitor the temperature when I'm at an outside range.

If it goes above 75 degrees, I put it in a plastic One ProTecht rifle bag and chuck it into my cooler.

The reason why people can never get good groups is because of the temperature alters the grain structure of the rifling and because they shoot way too much.

Just like any metal, when a gun warms up, its rifling expands and creates distortions. When it's cold, it tightens and gives you a more cohesive spin on the bullet.

Oh, it's well beyond that. As a 33rd degree Fudd in good standing, I can tell you that it's well into the obscure depths of Fudd Legends & Lore. If it's a .30-06 or .270 with a wood stock, it could be approaching the realm of Eternal Fudd Verities.

Depends on whether or not it has a Monte Carlo.
>>
>>29946351
Yes. Throw it away. Guns are never supposed to heat up at all.

>>
Have you ever shot your rifle?

Shoot 100 rounds out of it without stopping. Then grab the barrel and other parts near it.

Tell me then if it's as hot as the sun in your town.
